  • This mini documentary on the career and of legend of reggae producer Henry Junjo Lawes was originally released in 2010 as a bonus disc to the Reggae Anthology compilation Volcano Eruption (VPCD4162).
This documentary draws on the shared heritage of Greensleeves Records and VP Records, the two labels that issued the lion's share of Lawes' catalog in the UK and US between 1979 and 1985. This was the period through which Lawes was the leading producer in reggae and dancehall.
Featuring Interviews with: Chris Chin, Errol “Flabba” Holt, Little John, Michael Prophet, General Saint, Jah Screw, Cocoa Tea, Linval Thompson, and Yellowman
Featuring Still Images by: Beth Lesser, Tero Kaski, and Pekka Vuorinen
Interviews Conducted by: Fidel Luna, Norman “Bulpus” Bryan, and Pierre Bost
Cameras: Kevin Jackson, Marlon Williams, and Alex Bartolomei

Brilliant documentary, jungo run the 80,s decade, back in the days in England a documentary I cannot recall now about the black on black violence in England, the presenter showed a photo of a man lying dead on the street named Mr jungo lawes, and not 1 black person knew in the Audience knew who he was, one of the baddest record producers to ever come out the Jamaica, thanks for the upload, RIP the mighty Mr laws.

Yes I think even Jamaicans might not know. There are lots of artists we recognise but he doesn't seem to be one of them. I only know of him in relation to artists who died violently. It is sad how some of them end up. Possibly due to not being paid well, they end up in criminal activity

Respect to Henry 'Junjo' Lawes for giving lots of Artistes the opportunity and exposure.
However in my opinion Hopeton Overton Brown aka Scientist played a major role in Junjo's success with the kind of engineering he did on the recordings, which very few mention during these interviews.
It's a proven fact that the sound of the recordings can make or break an Artiste, It even contributed to some Artiste success that was lacking certain things, in a positive way.
The reason why most of these songs are still popular today is because of the mixing/engineering.
Many of Junjo's recording got sales because of Scientist mixing and his name being on the Albums /records.
During that time when I bought records, and I'm speaking for a few other that I know for sure, if Scientist name is on the record, we would buy it without questioning it because we knew the mixing on there would be different from the rest. Lots of credit needs to go to Hopeton Overton Brown aka Scientist and Roots Radics Band.

@@PaulBrown-fp6ug fi real and you hardly hear them talk about the ways they exploited him as a young Youth in the music business. Scientist was Waaay ahead of the game considering he was the youngest of them all and still is ahead of the game.
Bunny Lee (R.I.P.) said it best. "Scientist is the KING 👑 of DUB."
Lucky for him he left Jamaica.

@@lion8608 Thank you very much. Junjo's works which were mostly released Internationally on Greensleeves must be worth millions. That man ruled dancehall and had his signature on every #1 hit from say 1981 to 1985.....at least.
I know VP has purchased Greensleeves. But Junjo's family need to dig into this.
