If by next generation, you mean after the timeskip (the second one), then you'd be wrong. The new plot arc (the Alvarez one) is amazing! I really hope they bring back the first season animation when they do it though, and the music from the original series. Somehow, I don't feel like fairy tail 2014 music or animation would really do it justice.

I see a lot of people discussing if Natsu is a dragon or a demon. So here's the answer, with extremely important spoilers of the series so don't read unless you watched the full animation. Natsu was human 400 years ago, he was born from his mother and didn't have any stuff going on with demons or dragons like he would have later. Though he was human, he died when his village was attacked by dragons (I think they were dragons, can't remember). Then his brother learnt everything about black magic and experimented a lot with it, until he discovered a way to bring life back to his brother's body wich he had conservated. Zeref brought Natsu back to life, but as he used old forgotten black magic he could only revive him as a demon. When Natsu revived Igneel found him and taught him Dragon Slayer magic, but this magic has a problem, all users will end up becoming a dragon. To avoid this, Igneel got in Natsu's body and completely incapacitated the "Dragon Seed" forever, this way Natsu would never become a dragon. Actually, Natsu did never become a dragon ❌. Now you could think that the answer is obvious, Natsu was a human wich revived as a demon and as he never became a dragon, he is a demon, right? Well, kind of wrong. The thing is that Natsu was destinated to become a demon, but didn't become of them. This is similar to the dragon seed, if you use Dragon Slayer magic your body develops a dragon seed (a tumor) wich when it finally opens as time passes by and you spend your magic power it will turn you into a dragon. So, the demon seed exists too. But this is more complicated than dragon seed. Natsu is revived as the demon called E.N.D, but his powers are contained in a book. So he revives as demon but the part of him that is a demon is contained into a book, then if he is not demon nor dragon he is human? He ends up being a human for sure, but it is not clear if he was human or demon trough the series. The case is we know that Natsu's demon seed is not activated, so he is not a demon yet. And as I said eairler, everything demonic on him is contained into his demon book. Plus, Natsu's body is not the Etherias (demon) form of it if not the human form. But there is a problem, though he doesn't really have anything demonic active on his body when E.N.D's book suffers damage Natsu suffers damage too, so though he is not a demon yet he suffers when his demon book is damaged? That says he's demon, but there is something else to have in mind, all demons feel the desesperate need to kill Zeref, and Natsu doesn't. Basically, he is more likely to be a human trough the series, indeed it is probable than though Natsu suffers when the demonic book is attacked the pain he feels comes from the demon seed inside him, wich is the only demon related thing he has. So though it is only a theory he might have always been a human, but from what the series tell he is like 80% human and 20% demon, weird. But as I said that is only through the series, in the final episodes he becomes a 100% human. Natsu's demon seed was "fighting" against his dragon seed to beat it and make Natsu take over his etherias form (demon). As Natsu's body couldn't decide, his mind had to decide. Natsu decides he is a human so both seeds dissappear from his body. There is a few more details about this topic, but the comment already is extremely long. You can ask me anything if you want.
