This song was recorded on site at Puszcza Białowieska.
Puszcza Białowieska is the last natural lowland forest in Europe, the last living remains of the primitive forest that was covering most of Europe's terrain. It is home to thousands of species of fungus, plants and animals that can be found only in this region. Because of the natural processes that are happening here and biological diversity, the whole terrain of Puszcza Białowieska was made a world heritage site by UNESCO, which makes it the only nature place of this status in Poland. All of it is also under the protection of european nature preservation program Nature 2000.
In march 2016 polish environment secretary Jan Szyszko signed a document allowing increasing of deforestation in the Białowieża forest district (one of 3 forest districts in Puszcza Białowieska). In february 2017 State Forests Organization allowed cutting down trees in areas where trees of age above 100 years are growing, which are the most valuable parts of this forest.
Deforestation in this region, which is considered by many experts and environmentalists to be purely profit driven, has raised a lot of concern from both international community as well as the local population. Groups of people are blocking tree harvesters saving hundreds of trees from being cut down every hour.
The European Commity as well as UNESCO (by the decision from the 41st session of the Committee held on 5th July 2017 in Kraków) called Poland to immediately stop the tree cutting in Puszcza Białowieska. A special commission of experts will be send to the site to evaluate the spread and impact of the deforestation process and decide weather it's necessary to add Puszcza Białowieska to the list of World Heritage In Danger.
So far environment secretary Jan Szyszko does not react to the calls of UNESCO nor the European Committee.
