Aang: I don't know what to do here
Kyoshi: let me see the controller
LOL Kiyoshi is like a fes up older brother taking the sticks
The actress who plays suki is soo pretty
Yeah very pretty lady. ❤
Asians are pretty tho
As a kid I had a crush on suki in the show, now as an adult I have a crush on live action suki
Not all of them there a scale from 1 to 10 just like any other group.@@mikayrose2
Fr, she's so fine
>Past Avatar shows up
>Panic Button
>It's Avatar Kyoshi
>EVERY PANIC BUTTON POSSIBLE, HIT ALL OF THEM, *ALL OF THEM*
"You hear it too?" might be the best Sokka line ever.
Dallas Liu is doing a great job as Zuko. Standout preformance for me this season
I haven't seen the animated but did see the movie. Zuko seemed much more complex and relatable even. Great performance.
What's funny about the Suki training Sokka scene is that Ian Ousley (Sokka) is a third degree black belt in Taekwondo and has competed nationally for years. So he actually had to learn how to NOT be as good as he really is.
People don't get how tough that can be sometimes. I realize it isn't the most difficult thing to do but when you've been very, very good at something for so long, there's an adjustment period for trying to make yourself look like a novice again especially when it's something physical. It's tough
I may be wrong, but didn’t Miranda Cosgrove also do something similar for singing for when she was in school of rock?
Nice custom intro. Kyoshi is so good here. I love how much she towers over everyone, and the fight was so badass and honestly kind of terrifying. Also, I love the chemistry between Sokka and Suki.
You got that right.
Daniel Dae Kim voiced the Earth Kingdom general in "The Avatar State” and Hiroshi Sato in Korra. Now he’s playing the OG Avatar villain!
no wonder his voice is familiar 😮😮
omg that's true... ahhh totally forgot about that, the only thing i know him from is Angel as one of the attorneys
*Kyoshi saving her village is one of the best original scenes from the entire franchise. I'd choose her scenes over any Koi fish. lol*
Right there are some banger seen's in this show that are Better then the show.
@@AlbertoMartinez765 agree! similar to the 41st finding out zuko saved their lives
@@matilda6851 I think that was a HUGE positive for this show with fleshing out Zuko's character. At times he comes across as a bit too whiny, but then something like that shows his maturity by not telling anyone about it. I think that was a really smart move for his arc.
I'm wheezing over the Avatar intro especially the FIRE part 😂😂😂😂
Commander Zhao’s face when Avatar Kyoshi pulls up, is absolutely FLAWLESS. His eyes looked terrified and when he said “PULL BACK”, he was like “I don’t get paid enough for this shit” 😂
Lmao Fr 😂😂
OMG!! Edited out the moment I decided Dallas was going to be a PERFECT Zuko!
The line delivery on "He raaaaaan!!!!!" is a combination of amazed, pissed off, confused, and dissapointed WTF!?!? in just two words.
HE RAN 💅
6:57 "Is that the little general that she fights?"
To be fair: Avatar Kyoshi was a woman of large height, probably from 6'7 f / 2 m upwards. Many people look small in comparrision to her
Right but even compared to his own troops he was small, also I think she literally comments on his temper being the result of his small stature
I heard in cannon, Kyoshi is actually 7”0’ ft
Aang looks like a little baby beside her.
@@Dryltd I mean he's only 112. He is a baby compared to kyoshi
@@zach1425 LOL. She is like see me at 200 young one.
Fighting a tornado is such a good description. That's what the avatar is no? A manifestation of the forces of nature to maintain the balance on the world.
Kyoshi taking over Aang's pilot is a beastly sight to behold, and she is doing what she does necessary to achieve peace and justice.
I am so happy that we get to see Kyoshi in live action, and she tall as hell!
For anyone intested in the Kyoshi books: The informations presented here by Katara are actually canon with the books (which have been confirmed by the originial creators as canon). I personally really enjoyed them, they have a way darker tone than the cartoon, and they show such a cool different perspective on the role of Avatar in that world
So she was an orphan and then a servant? Was the family that took her in nice or harsh?
@@redfire1186you’ll have to read to find out. 😉 It’s a great twist
@@redfire1186 Yup, she was both. And the man who took her in was an Air Nomad named Kelsang, he was one of Kuruk's companions.
"Kuruk's a little more easy going, go with the flow kinda guy"
....
People who have read Kyoshi "👀"
Lol I know right, He made a lot of sacrifices, which no one even knew because of how humble and caring he was, and never got any appreciation for what he did
Kyoshi and Suki are in my favourite parts of the show, they are so well done. I know Kyoshi appeared to Suki in prison, but it means so much to me that Suki got to see Kyoshi defending the island. The Suki, Sokka scenes were really well done. I love how the Kyoshi Warriors' fans are boomerangs, it was a really nice addition and makes complete sense in universe.
They changed Sukis character entirely, as well as her and Sokkas relationship development. Here she just comes across like a doe eyed schoolgirl fawning over ripped Sokka, the first boy from outside she's ever met. No challenging Sokkas sexism, appreciating him allowing himself to be humbled, nothing of that sort. I find her character change, as well as Kataras, to be one of the most awful and, ironically, sexist ones.
@@user-kr6ls6hl7n I’d argue that she does see him humbling himself when he’s watching them train and then he’s caught watching them. He’s a warrior who prided himself on his abilities and didn’t realize how little he knew until he met Suki and the others. He’s then willing to learn from her. Without any comments about his superiority as a warrior.
@user-kr6ls6hl7n I agree, they stripped away a lot of Katara and Suki's agency, and I'm hoping they build on their characters in the next season, but I disagree that Suki is fawning over Sokka, I think she's acting like someone who's only known how to fight as she's trying to impress him, going to far and they start to build a foundation for a relationship built upon a mutual understanding of what's it's like to be non-bending protector of their respective homes.
Sokka's sexism was cartoonishly stupid in the cartoon. And it completely disappeared after episode 4 of the show. It was not a prominent thing. It was not a well done thing. It was overthetop nonsense, and completely unnecessary for their relationship to work. @@user-kr6ls6hl7n There's also nothing sexist about a woman finding a man sexy.
"Kuruk's a little more easy going, go with the flow kinda guy" :)
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't that before he lost his wife?
@Jegekim He does mention that in the OG Show when Aang talks to him.
SPOILERS FOR BOOKS AHEAD
Kuruk was known as a lazy Avatar for a long time but in reality, he wasn't. He spent his life taking care of the spirits because before him, Yangchen neglected them. She's known as such an amazing and respected avatar and Kuruk respected her a lot so he kept his actions against the spirits secret. To protect Yangchen's image. He's so underrated.
@@phoenixwing5133 to add to this comment:
BOOK SPOILERS AHEAD TOO
I just wanted to add for others that those spirits in question were dark spirits - evil entities. Essentially Kuruk learned that many dark spirits were close to breaking the veil between worlds and invading the physical world - which would have been disastrous for the people in the physical world. Kuruk basically went to war in the spirit world to prevent an all out invasion of demons lol. He kept this war against dark spirits to himself, so many never learned just how much of a protector he was, hence his legacy of being a lazy, inefficient Avatar. These battles with the dark spirits are also why he died young, because each battle against a dark spirit would slowly corrupt his soul and drain his life essence.
@@Vinlander95 I finished the show and learned a bit about this part. But since you've knowledge of the book, I have a question. Kuruk was not able to bend in the spirit world, right? So, did he fight the spirits without his power? That's freaking insane.
The Kyoshi books made me really hope for a Kyoshi show someday. Her backstory is rough but interesting.
Kyoshi is terrifying lmao
Kyoshi fight scene- best scene ever!
That Avatar Intro was BONKERS! 😂😂😂
And of course, another fun episode & great reaction Wave Crew!
This show already gave me two things I wanted from the cartoon.
More kyoshi, and gyatso fighting before his demise.
The Intro is perfection 😂😂
I wonder what insights the boys will have about this unique take on the Kyoshi episode
Boys: 'Lose their minds over the foodspread due to hunger'
To be fair, I also lost my mind during that food spread shot and I had already eaten when I saw it. They made anime food real. Give them all the awards.
TV shows have too much food on the table. That all looked like dessert as well. Now to eat this cupcake.
"Earth" being Rick kicking that fuckin straw just took me out
I LOOOVE this episode. Adding Kyoshi was a great choice. She was scary for the 5 seconds you see her in the animated show, Full blown crazy avatar Kyoshi defending her home was amazing. That’s one change I really like in this version, we get more info about the past avatars. I also like Ken Leung as Zhao, but I still have a hard time grasping that he was the bad guy in Rush Hour
"We haven't had lunch yet..." LMAO That made me snarf yo!
Kyoshi is the Avatar equivalent of the Terminator
That intro clip of the bending styles was amazing 😂
Sokka is awkward but it is a smooth awkward.
They guy that plays zhao was kid omega in x men last stand and sang in rush hour
Omg that is him! I thought he looked so familiar but I couldn't place him.
Kyoshi background music is the same as what I would expect for the soundtrack to Cthulhu. it fits.
I don’t get why people are hating this sokka he’s been funny to me 😂 this whole time
I really like the change from animated show that we got to see more of Kyoshi, that fight was really intense.Suki and Sokka scenes were great too :)
I don't know if you noticed, but Mayor Yukari of Kyoshi Island is played by Tamlyn Tomita, Kumiko in Karate Kid and Cobra Kai
HE RAN!!!!! 😩😫
It's hard to seperate this from the original, but I'm loving the extension of the characters. Iroh is on point with book 1 Iroh
I remember watching the Legend of Korra and that one shot of the picture of Aang was the funniest shit I've ever seen. 🤣 Even as an adult he was still goofy as fudge. 😅
My profile pic 😂
💅🏼HE RAN!!!💅🏼🫰🏼
The force jump was fuckin hilarious😂 “air” then just dips😂
the kyoshi books are a really good read. she is brutal but only when pushed. made me love her even more
calvin getting drenched in the intro 😂
There needs to be a Kyoshi spin-off, STAT!!!
Thanks, Eric! Thanks, Calvin! Thanks, Aaron! 🌱☁🔥🌊
The intro is perfection.
definitely one of my favorite episodes from the adaptation
That intro!!! 😂😂😂 Masterpiece!! My favorite is the water 😂
The terror and might of a seven foot tall 230 year old warrior
That intro made me smile immediately, well done gentlemen!
The Intro was awesome😂👍🏻💯.
I really hope "Lord of snow and ice" comes back with a vengance when sokka gets thr sword
11 minutes in
Kiyoshi: GTFO MY ISLAND *yeets the entire fire nation off and away
The opening was peak film 😂💀
The intro 😭😂😂
There are 2 Kyoshi books to check out by F.C. Yee. They are not about Chin the Conqueror, but the beginnings of Kyoshi and how she became the avatar. It is "The Rise of Kyoshi" and "In the Shadow of Kyoshi" I believe are the titles.
Love the intro🤣
2 episodes in and man...
**puts hands up**
I don't know what all the fuss was about. They must have really messed something up later, but they have straight references to the cartoon and the pacing is fast, but good enough (we miss some of the character building and the whole subplot of Aang not being welcomed in town). The only real thing that I disliked was how easily the fire troops are being beaten and how early they revealed Suki's face. Good so far.
Edit: the Kyoshi possession was better done than the cartoon, as it didn't just make Kyoshi look strong, but she can, at the drop of a hat, immediately impact a fight. Makes me excited for the other big possession we get.
Finally some grown ups who loves the show instead of hating on it
The intro fire guys
I love the theme song for Kyoshi
If Kyoshi had her own series with this badassery take my money even if it’s free 💀
This series is great. I'm so glad we're getting it and that you guys have reacted to it so soon. Are you guys planning to revisit Master's of the Universe on Netflix sometime?
The Thunder Kitsune herself ...ifykyk
The fights choreography have been great but after the first episode showed us very explicit violence this episode felt like watching the Power Rangers. Sukki showed that her fan weapons are used to slash so is kind of weird they ended up fighting and used them as maces.
This is not necessarily something bad and the episode had great pacing but I felt a bit of whiplash with the tone of the show after seeing people being immolated alive they wouldn’t show cuts.
great episode
Sokka is so much better in this version. He can learn from Suki without being humiliated.
the intro was so pathetic and i love it! 🤣
The fact that im watching lost rn 😂😂
One does not simply walk onto Kyoshi Island and threaten its people with destruction and death....
Love that you guys know very well the animated show as well. Even remembered avatar day episode lol.
I wasn't a fan of this show but I have to say getting to see Kyoshi wreck shit was really cool
I laughed so hard at the intro, I did a spit take on my laptop! 😂🤣
I think my one issue is that they took the outward stereotype of Kyoshi being a no nonsense warrior avatar as her characterization, but that’s how everyone else viewed her. She was tough, but cartoon and book Kyoshi was a far softer person than her reputation showed. It’s my only real complaint with this episode.
The kyoshi novels are great
Great Intro, Great Episode
You can argue that the scroll was the first Character development from Katara, but I dont mind it.
Its getting a bit down hill for me from here. But next Episode they gonna see Cabbage and Abed
That was an important character moment for Katara though. Here, she's just given it for convenience sake.
@@za-ir5ni Not at all. She learned not to steal... that's pretty much it. You guys are reading to much into simple things. Katara is trying to be accepted as a strong person capable of holding her own, that's her big goal throughout the first season. Showing that her Grand deemed her worthy to learn more about water bending is a great boost of confidence for her, pushing her to learn. That's the whole point with Paku and why she fights against him when he pushed her down.
@0725038 I'm talking about the frustration and lashing out at Aang for initially being better at waterbending than her, that led to her stealing the scroll. Showcasing jealousy on her part and a character flaw with her apologizing to Aang by the end. A healthy conflict that they resolved and got closer over with her acknowledging Aang as someone she can learn from. The fact that all you mentioned was the stealing demonstrates that defenders of this show like yourself don't even understand why the original is good. She didn't do anything to earn that scroll here. It was just a way for the writers to have her suddenly master it without showing it. By the end of the season she's a master without any actual training lol. Do I even need to mention that Aang doesn't waterbend the entire season too.
@@za-ir5ni Doesnt matter if Aang doesnt waterband by season 1, the season is not called "Water". Nothing stops them from showing 20 minutes of training at the start of season 2 and showing Aang being better at learning stuff. You saw Katara trained the whole season, she used the scroll, learned with Aang, Jet and Bumi. They even said in the last episode that she had to learn quickly and adapt while being attacked. That's the best kind of training you can get. She's good, but she's not really a master yet, but she's good enough and has the right qualities to teach Aang. As for how they got the scroll, she got jealous for 1 episode!!!! They can replace that story by anything else. That's what i hate about fans like you. You want the show to be the exact same copy. None of your arguments holds for someone that never seen the show. Stop comparing it. I welcome any new changes. I dont want another Lion King atrocity.
@@0725038 That's literally his entire job lol. The thought of learning any bending doesn't even occur to him. The only reason he goes to the Northern Water Tribe is just vibes from Kyoshi. Just a pointless change. Also you saying that a lazy montage of him finally doing some waterbending at the beginning of next season would suffice shows that you don't know what good writing is.
No, Katara doesn't train. She gets a pep talk from someone and suddenly is able to use a move. That's lazy. She doesn't even learn from Pakku, probably because the writers didn't want her learning from a man. And all of this neglects the fact that her character was written poorly this season.
Your comment shows that you fundamentally didn't understand why the writing was good in the original. You're just like "it was just one episode" ignoring a great moment that develops the character. You like the writers don't like them having flaws to work through. Not to mention fleshing out the bond between Aang and Katara. Something btw that doesn't happen at all this season.
Nice strawman with the hating any change. Everybody is pointing the structural problems with the writing that fundamentally changes the characters for the worse. Watch literally any review on this show.
omg that start to video
...u guys are too cute😂
9:25 very different from what the airbender avatar tells Aang in book 3 near the finale Lol
Kyoshi would definitely have a different outlook on mercy than airbenders.
I’m sorry but you guys’ opening takes me out everytime 😂
W intro
I honestly think this was better than the original episode
By the way yes the information about Kyoshi's past come from the Novels, which are cannon. There are two, the first being the rise of Kyoshi and the Second being the shadow of Kyoshi. They both have audiobooks read by Nancy Wu. First off the Books are Amazing in and of them self but Nancy Wu just reads it with such enthusiasm, it is so captivating and is defiantly worth a listen if you get you hands on it
Anyone here would have been more excited to have seen Legend of Korra instead 🤷🏻♂️
Suki did the Patrick Swayze Ghost with Sokka, that tracks that she was the Patrick Swayze 😉😉
Cant anyone recognize suki's mother-Yukari as Tamlyn Tomita from Karate Kid 2 of 1986? 😢
Shame we didn't get the spinning balls
lol Suki, more like Pookie 🥰
This episode was so freaking good!
Can not wait for next episode
You could make a whole video essay about how this adaptation has shifted or misunderstood the original themes at play with the stuff covered in this episode, and many people probably have
As someone who hasn't watched the original series, I'm really liking this so far. I know some will think that's blasphemy, but I'd much rather watch an adaptation first, so nothing disappoints me. Then going back to the original usually enhances things and gives me more info. Really enjoying your reactions, boys.
No rick in these reactions is kinda throwing me off lol.
I swear I keep hearing seth rogan
airball airball he did the airball
He did the thing! 🫵🏼🫵🏼🫵🏼
And now is the first of 2 choices in this show that I didn't like.... Kyoshi's portrayal/characterization. Yes, Kyoshi was a strong and imposing character in ATLA but she was also CALM and STEADY. Even when fighting an enemy, she was collected -- she never even raised her voice. In this series however she comes off as antagonistic and volatile. Which, I think is totally outside of her personality in ATLA. I enjoyed the other choices they made here - like actually getting to talk to her this early on. I don't hate that Kyoshi was the one revealing information about the Avatar State instead of Roku. I liked that she got to take over so she could fight and save her people -- it was a much more poignant possession than what we saw in the ATLA. And I LOVED that fight scene!! OMG, I rewatched that scene like 3 times because it was so dope! But the moments leading up to it, when we meet her and she's just nothing like her personality in the cartoon.. I did not like it. I don't think Kyoshi would yell at a child, for acting like a child. Even if that child was the Avatar. She lived to be 230 years old... a wise, calm, old warrior woman would not yell at and guilt trip a child --- especially because she knows that Roku is far more responsible for the war than Aang is. I think that was so out of character.
This is one reason why I would give the show a 8 out of 10 instead of a perfect 10. I can deal with situational changes or changes in certain dynamics to make things flow better in a live action adaptation --- but what I can't vibe with is a personality change like this. I was legit taken aback during those conversation scenes. I was like... who dis? You may look like Kyoshi but you sure don't act like her.
What I love though is Suki! I love that she's totally into Sokka and is bombing because the only way she knows how to connect with someone is with her fighting skill. And of course, he doesn't get that it's her love language!! Love it! I really like the changes they made there.
I really disliked how they wrote Suki. Yeah, they showed that she was a competent warrior but they made her look like she’s just discovering that she likes boys for the first time and she acts like a small child following Sokka around
To be fair Sokka is the first man she's met who isn't from her island. I imagine you'd be pretty interested in a new face if your only dating prospects are old men or boys you grew up with.
@@jenk4545I agree that she would be interested in him. I just don’t think it sets up a meaningful relationship very well and shows her character in a poor light.
@@JCrushFitness It's not just a boy... it's a warrior, exploring the world, just like her. She's seems herself in him and wish she could do the same.
Its not meant to. Book 1 Suki and Sokka are the childhood crushes that you have. Its full of awkwardness and lack of confidence on one end, the other an overly confident brash person on the other. But by the time we see them again in book 2, a lot of character development has happened. This was always more clearer on Sokka's end in the original then Suki, and I feel like they have set up Suki as well to do a lot of off screen development as she will soon leave Kyoshi and meet other people. @@JCrushFitness
@@0725038 yep, makes sense. But the way she went about it was weird and although it makes sense it doesn’t feel as genuine as the original
Ngl I don’t mind Kiyoshi taking over Aangs body in this but it really bothered me that she did the 4 element bubble thing. Like that’s Aangs highest feat of power we see in the show, that moment where he combines all 4 together is incredible and a big part of why is cause we wait 3 seasons and watch Aangs progression. Here it’s episode 2 and to me it just feels like they couldn’t keep it in their pants, no patience for a real story to evolve.
To be fair, the pacing in the cartoon is slower and in the adapter it is episode limited. Will be expensive if like game of thrones but I will be delighted if it was
Are we just ignoring the crying grown ass man in the middle ??? 😂
Aang: How do I save the world without hurting people?!
Kyoshi: These hands rate E for everyone
thats funny Iroh and Zuko dont know zhao right off the back. I feel this guy isnt plaing him so angry and agressive. He is playing him more subtle. I think that will effect the Jeong Jeong episode if we ever hit it . I mean it could stil happen I just dont think Zhao will be Jeong Jeong student who couldnt control his temper.
damn I wanted to meet the pirates when it came to the scroll
I like how they show the burned bodies (that didnt sound like a psycho)
To tell the truth who really gets burned besides zuko aang katara and song... I cant think of anyone oh yeah toph when her feet got burned. This gives alot of intensity
Jeong Jeong was cut out
