  • In this Video I test out Harbor freight’s Titanium 200 welder along side the Vulcan omnipro 220 in a Mig welding test.
    This is the second video in a series of welder tests I plan to make on these welders.

      Thanks Dave 🙂👍
      I really like both welders, I don’t own the Vulcan anymore but it welded really nice! I still own the Titanium 200 and it’s still a champ, still working great after 3 years of use, I loaned it to my friend and he has been happy with it, he’s a Miller guy but wanted a welder at home and one at his work. He said the Titanium welds just as good if not better then his Millermatic 200 🙂👍

    HA HA HA - To the haters- We feel bad for you. Ive been welding, wrenching, building, machining and fabricating for over 30 years - MIKE is just like I was (and am - I'm just older now) He's a consummate professional - Knowledgeable in many facets of building and fabricating - No one with as much experience would ever call him out on the crap I've seen in some of the comments here. Most are supportive and good on them for that. Keep it up Mike - You do a great job and you are also very well spoken - A joy to watch. Thank you! Keep them coming! And call on me any time if you want to collaborate on a project. - Charlie

      Thanks Charlie :) I really appreciate you taking the time to write this! Yes as you noticed there has been a few Haters making some comments, for the most part most of my videos get nice positive comments, but for some reason these review videos of me showing people the ins and outs of these welders sure seems to upset some trolls out there Haha!
      One thing I always try to do in my videos is to share ideas, show what I have learned and to motivate others to build things and work with what you got, UA-cam can and is a real useful way to share knowledge and ideas world wide, and I think the biggest problem with it is there’s a lot of trolls that are extremely negative, and the disappointing thing about that is I think it limits some people from sharing stuff on UA-cam. I think the simplest way UA-cam could cut down on trolls is to allow comments to people that have posted a video or two, the reason I say this is because 99% of all the negative comments have been from people that have 0 videos posted. I’m definitely not saying that people that don’t post are out to be rude, but most people that create videos tend to know the amount of work it takes to share your projects on UA-cam. Thanks again for your awesome comment! And I will definitely keep you in mind for some collaboration projects :)
      -Michael

      This is what you tube is, it’s the internet. I remember from the mid ‘90s, a cartoon. The caption was; “On the internet, nobody knows you’re a dog.” The cartoon had a dog using the computer. With most everyone being anonymous, they can get away with whatever they say. Try doing that in person though. People who post videos are known. That’s why they won’t (usually, I’ve seen a few otherwise) be too snarky.

    One of the best comparison review videos I've seen so far. This helped me tremendously. I'm DIYer just learning to weld and did not want to drop thousands on an expensive machine I might use once or twice a month. I went by HF but was naturally a little leery about buying a welder there...but not now after seeing them perform. Thanks Mike!

      Right on Bob I’m glad you found my video informative! I have a few videos posted on these welders, and I will be reviewing the Stick and Tig features soon so keep an eye out for those videos as well. I think ether of these welders will serve you well, I know what you were saying about feeling a little leery, a year and a half ago when the Omnipro first came out I felt that way spending that kind of money at HF, but a year and a half later I have no regrets! It’s a rock solid welder. Take care

    Your analysis is spot on, quick and to the point. Excellent open minded comparison. Really honest genuine review. I particularly liked your review on The mig guns. Again your comparison is right on the money. I have a Miller 211 mig inverter, which has a mig gun nearly identical to the Vulcan as far as fit and feel go. I paid over $1200 for the miller and the mig gun is fair at best. So I really think these Vulcan, Titanium units fill a niche for us do it yourselfers!

    Great video Mike 👍, I broke down and traded up returning my mig140 and snagged a Omnipro 220. I never even opened the 140 but used my Vulcan 220 for the first time today, I didn't start well and blew a hole right through it and couldn't understand why until I had a duh moment and realized I had aluminized steel and the 12gauge was way to hot. All in all after making a bunch of adjustments I finished my anvil stand. I'm really happy with the 220 and your videos helped the decision-thank you.
    My anvil stand project is very acceptable to me and and my conversion to making a space for a mini forge.

    I have the Vulcan and love it. I have used it for hours on end, of course not continuous, but just short breaks to move and change welding positions, and it does great. No duty cycle issues at all. The one weld with the Titanium had some undercut, a little too much amperage. But I get it, you used the settings printed on the cover.

    Great job Mike. One of the best unbiased tests I've seen. What a lot of professional welders don't get is that there are a lot of guys like us that don't have (or can't justify) spending $2000 (or more) for a welder that gets used a couple times a month. Like you I want something that I can use to fix something or use on a quick project. It took these small companies like Everlast (and now everyone else) to come up with the concept of multi process welders. Could Lincoln and Miller have done it - sure. They didn't however as they would prefer to sell 3 welders rather than one that does everything. Keep up the good work.

    • @professorx7398

      Miller sells multiprocess machine but it's real expensive. Our local community College bought about four or five. They are decent on 110v power but the cost is eye watering, lol

  • @richmac918
    @richmac918 5 років тому +1

    Good job on the review. Took your time to explain the pro's and con's of each and to actually test them. I get it when the professional welders say they would never purchase one of these. If I were welding for a living then I'd go with a Miller or Lincoln as well. What they don't get is that a lot of us weld a few times a month if even that and can't justify spending $2 or $3 grand on something that will more often collect dust than weld. I love the idea of these multi process welders and inverter technology. Unfortunately for me, I already have a dedicated MIG and stick but if I were starting fresh I'd get one of these and be done with it.

    • @Mikefestiva
      @Mikefestiva  5 років тому

      Thanks for commenting Rich. yes both of these welders weld very well, I have been impressed with them so far. The multi process along with the with 120/240 volt capability is a definitely useful. Like you said, there probably not going to hold up in a fab shop ran day in and day out, but not even all the name brand welders do, my friends Millermatic 200 has been sent in for repairs 3 times in the last year and a half, I have owned my Omnipro for the same amount of time and it’s not had any problems so far, again I think big heavy industrial welders for fab shops, light portable ones for around the home shop, different machines for completely different tasks. Take care

    Watched a couple of your videos on these, and you ask the same question. Why would HF market both these lines. Well, one is a more value line. They create market differentiation by offering the No Questions Asked return on the Vulcan. Guaranteed that same offer on the Titanium would tank the Vulcan sales.
    This allows them to creep the price up on the Vulcan units as they become more and more known for value and reliability. And it also closes the door on someone else coming in to undercut them in the value segment.
    I owned a Hobart MIG. The cooling fan on it vibrated so badly that it would actually change the wire feed speed mid-weld. When I contacted Hobart for warranty service, they told me to kick rocks.
    A friend owned a Miller Multimatic that crapped at 5 years and 1 month. ONE MONTH after warranty expired. $1800 for a new mainboard that probably costs sub $50 for Miller to produce in China.
    As a hobbyist, these are the reasons my next welder will come from Harbor Freight.

    • @melgross
      @melgross 5 років тому +6

      Some companies are really good, and some are really bad. Two examples. I bought an ESAB emp 215 a year ago. No problems. When it first came, there was a small gauge on the front handle. I called them up. The engineer I spoke to said they’d send me a new machine. All I wanted was to replace the handle. He finally agreed to send me one. I feel as though that’s pretty good. They say 100% satisfaction guarantee of 3 years.
      On the other hand, a friend bought an Everlast. You know, the ones you see on almost every welding site, because they give them away like free pens. But when getting it, a contract has to be signed to never say anything negative. So they seem great. A friend bought one because of them being everywhere. He had problems from the beginning. Despite the 5 year warrantee, he fought with them for three months. Finally, after making him run test after test, they allowed him to send it to them. It’s been 5 months, and it hasn’t yet come back. Look them up. Terrible.
      Whatever you might say about HF, they will stand by their product.
      Oh, and when on a site, look at how they talk. If they do something and need to tell you the name of the manufacturer, and the entire model number-every time, you know they got it for free.

      Mel Gross Thanks for your input on this subject Mel! I’m glad you have been happy with your ESAB welder! That’s always good to hear from a happy owner. I have been quite skeptical about Everlast welders, before I bought the Omnipro, maybe two years ago I was looking into the Everlast AC TIG but I just felt a bit worried about $70 out of my pocket if I had to send one back for repairs and there seemed to be something fishy about there reviews on line. Once the Vulcan came out I felt it was a better gamble and the fact I could drive it right to Harbor Freight and trade it out for a new one if anything went wrong. Back to Everlast, I have heard the same thing about them trying to control there reviews on line, that is definitely a crap way to do business. Speaking of that brand again, I had a real nasty troll that kept commenting over and over really false stuff about HF welders and was completely hateful, I mean this guy was REAL NASTY to me, I would correct him about the warranty and the welders and he would come back extra bad, he went by the name “John Smith” I finally had to block him because he was so bad, anyhow one of the times I called him out for being so awful, I said ether he’s a complete hateful troll that looks forward to being nasty to people or he works for a welding company and that’s why he keeps posting false info about these welders, guess what he deleted his post, I got one of them right, then later I recall him saying that my welders are crap and I’m stupid for buying them, but I remember him saying “ Buy a real welder buy a Everlast”
      Just maybe he was a Troll from another welding company? Maybe Everlast? I have heard they can be down right nasty on the phone if you actually need to get them to stand behind there products. And sponsoring some of the the bigger welding guys on UA-cam definitely helps there reputation when you have puppets saying there great. Sorry for the long comment but I figured I would share this. Take care

    • @melgross

      Mike festiva thanks for the reply.
      A lot of people don’t understand what companies do. I really don’t care where something is made these days. Good products can be made anywhere. For example, the Vulcan line is also,sold under the name Klutch, from Northern tools. They have also come out with a newer line that looks quite different. Both they, and HF are good companies. Klutch is a bit more expensive, but included the 3 year warrantee. You pay extra for that with HF, but in the end, the prices are about the same.
      I’ve used a Vulcan, though I forget which model. It seemed fine. ChuckE pointed out in a review that the welder seemed just fine, though the programming on stick was wrong, as it had plate thicknesses in the amp settings. That can be ignored, though if you’ve never welded before, it could confuse you.
      Otherwise, the welders that people need to be wary of are the unbranded Chinese junk for $100 to maybe $150. I keep telling guys that if that’s what they want to spend, they should buy a cheap HF, Campbell Hausfeld, Grizzly or other name brand, because at least you’ll have warrantee service, and an honest rating. No 10 pound welder puts out 200 amps, or even 125.

    Great video Mike. Like you I started with an old buzz box that a cousin gave me, then graduated to a small Lincoln 140A MIG/ flux core and then bought a small Amico stick to which I added a TiG adapter to. In all I'm pretty happy with all the welders but each lacks certain things. The Lincoln is heavy (about 70lbs.) and lacks infinite resolution on the voltage. The Amico weighs about 10lbs, is really portable, welds well but the TIG set up is lacking. Wish I had just bought a multi process welder - would have saved space, been about the same cost (maybe less) and have greater capability overall

I've never used the vulcan.. but I'd like to try one.. the titanium 200 is the machine I used for myself.. and it ran great I had it for a year.. never had any type of issues. But the most i did with it was make a press and did some body work and repairs to some machinery.

    I've got that exact same Airco MIG welder and Midget gun. Different Airco wire feeder tho, still built like a tank. Mine also sits way back in the shop, and if I need it by the door or outside I have to lug the wire feeder across the shop. I'm 60 now, taught myself to weld when I was 14, and the Vulcan 220 is looking mighty nice at this point for several different reasons. Price wise, there is NOT a Blue or Red welder in my future.

      I definitely like both of them, I like the Titanium a little more mostly because of its compact size and light weight, it fits my needs a little better then the Omnipro. Both welders work fine for basic DC TIG welding, the Titanium is a bit more basic then the Omni because the Titanium is just scratch start and no foot pedal for adjusting amps, but I found the Titanium to be easier to learn TIG on because it was so simple to use. • @Mikefestiva
      @Mikefestiva  5 років тому +1

      Theodore Bowers don’t be to hard on yourself, we all make mistakes, it’s just a part of life. The best thing that came out of it was you started on a project! You will find that the more projects you build the more confidence and comfortable you will become with all of it, keep working on stuff and the really nice thing about welding is you can tack weld a lot of your project then when your confident that it’s how you want you can fully weld it together, and even if you put something in the wrong place you can always cut it apart and weld it up again :)
      I made a small wood stove out of a 5 gallon LP tank in the past, It was built to be as light as possible, because we had a plan for it. There was a small A frame cabin about 5 miles out, you had to ski into it on a closed road in the winter, it was there for winter camping, but the park pulled the wood stove out a few years prior to discourage people from using the cabin anymore, no heat less people would use the cabin :( it was not a party spot you had to work hard to get there and with many winter storms and the main road only open on the weekends really meant only a a hand full of people would use it every winter, so I made this little stove, we packed it out to the cabin one winter, camped out in the mountains and staying warm! After the weekend we pulled the stove again and stashed it till spring, when the road was clear of snow and we could take a car back and pick it out. The sad thing is the Park bulldozed the A frame two years later because they said they didn’t want people effecting the vegetation around the cabin, this was a BS story, there was 6 feet of snow around the cabin so how were people impacting the plants? ( so they used a bulldozer!?!?) The real story is the A frame cabin was one year from turning 50 years old and at that point the park had to consider it a historic cabin and conserve it, it was originally put in by some young rangers that liked skiing, (with out a official okay to do so) but it was appreciated by back country skiers for by rangers for decades, till a new crop of rangers that didn’t ski became in charge, they wanted it gone. It’s a bit sad because I won’t be able to take my son out winter camping when he gets old enough. Sorry for the long story, but I figured you might like hearing it, when you mentioned a small wood stove out of a 5 gallon tank it brought back memories :) take care

    I seen the titanium welder at harbor freight. I've been wanting a Lincoln mp210 for sometime now but can't afford it yet. I've been thinking of getting the Vulcan. But for the price of the Vulcan. I thought I might as save up for the Lincoln. After I saw the titanium I thought the quality of the knobs and such was better than the Vulcan. big_air_ jer I did a video comparing the Omnipro along side a $2000 dollar Millermatic 200, a while back and some people thought I was favoriting the Miller in the fact that the metal was fairly warm because I welded some thick 1/2” plate with the Omnipro first. If you have really thick metal it can help to pre heat it first before welding. I hope this helps.

    I super appreciate your honest videos and regular guy opinion's that type of humility is refreshing even on you-tube... I am a welding student at Cerritos college here in southern California and it's the #1 welding college in the entire state of California so I'm always interested in seeing what's going on in the welding world. and your video's help a lot because they are real world and unbiased. there is a harbor freight close to my house and I'm gonna buy myself the Titanium 140 just to do some practice welding at home and maybe make some furniture for my wife etc. and art projects. I know the 140 will only do flux cored or MIG weld's but that's all I need for now.. besides I don't wanna trip my breakers and I know if I grab a Titanium 170 or higher the likelihood of me tripping breakers is high. so I'm just gonna mess around with the Titanium 140 and have some fun as I learn more and get better as a welder. it now is my new life's pursuit as a tradesman and how I plan on earning a living. I have a lot more to learn but I do like it alot..

      Thanks for your comment, I really appreciate that you always check out my videos!
      That’s great your going to school for welding, it seems like a good job and I’m sure you will always be able to get work. So I keep seeing the Titanium 170 going on sale for $450! It’s a really good price, I know you are thinking you may trip your breakers but I highly recommend you buy the 170 over the 140, keep in mind it’s still multi voltage, so if you only have 120 you can still run it, you also can run it on the lower amperage range as the 140, so it will not draw anymore power on the lower settings as the 140 but you may find some times you need a little more power and that’s where you will be happy you got the 170, plus you can always take it to a friends house with 240 if you want to weld bigger jobs. I really believe in the long run you will get a lot more out of the 170 for the extra $50. I have owned lower amp MiG welders and there’s always that time when you wish you had just a little more power and I’m sure with the 170 that will not ever be a factor, this is just my experience over the years and my feelings on those welders. I think the 170 on sale is a extremely good value for what your getting. Take care :)

      @davidhelgeson6997 5 років тому +1

      I definitely agree with Mike and recommend getting the 170 I think you will be happy in the long run the 170 running at the same at the maximum amperage as the 140 wont draw any more current but will have a higher duty cycle at that setting and if you do have access to larger input power source you will be able to take advantage of the higher out put of the 170 I recommend buying the highest amp welder even the 200 if you can afford it you can always run the larger welder below it's maximum but you cant run the smaller welder above its's maximum I have had 120 amp Lincoln and 120 amp Hobart and gave both of the away in fact I gave the Lincoln To Mike years ago HaHa I now have a miller autoset 180 and a miller multimatic 200 and the 200 is my goto machine even on thinner metal it just welds nicer than my older noninverter machine hope this helps
