How to use the lighting options (sun, spot, point, area) so you can move the lighting source around to create shadows.... is that possible in grease pencil? I've seen it in being used in the 3D side of Blender but can't find anything for 2D grease pencil :-(
I'm very impressed My first thought when I saw it was a 1h30 video was that you would take your time in explaining stuff, but it's actually 1h30 worth of valuable information presented at a very dynamic pace. Well done
Thank you! I think it was important to show what you can do with grease pencil, it's so much more than most people think. I think I have just scatched the surface what you can do with it, can't wait to see what other people create :)
This is THE BEST and most comprehensive tutorial I've seen for grease pencil! I've been looking for something this comprehensive for a while. Thank you so much for your effort, it's been a huge help!
Such a lovely, well edited, helpful and entertaining tutorial~ Helpful timestamps + a non-intrusive timer + entertaining little jokes and references thorough the video + neat transitions (let's all appreciate how much effort those little 5 second clips must have taken) + captions (thank you so much!!) and very straight to the point (the video is just long because he covers so much, really) You have a neat accent, sir! It's very refreshing (and sometimes even cute) how you pronounce some words. I can still understand you clearly even though English is not my first language! I hope this video blows up and gets recommended to lots of people! You deserve more likes and views.
Thank you so much! This comment really made my day! I'm super glad you liked this video and found it useful! This did take insanely long to make and so great that it was not for nothing. I hope you can harness this knowledge and create awesome projects, they will teach you so much more! :)
Many Thanks Dantti. 2 Years ago I tried Blender 2D and scared myself out of it. Your brilliant and very generous video (taken lots of your time) has given me new hope. The professional excellence in your video matches the ever growing awesome power of Blender 2D and 3D. I will follow every video you make and if ever I can shift from a hobby to an earning position with Blender, I will certainly donate to support Blender.
Thank you so much! I was in your shoes once, but I started with 2.7 series which was a UI nightmare 😅 Keep pushing, keep learning, keep growing. You can literally do everything in Blender which is a great asset to know as a software. You can definitely earn with the skills you develop over time. I'd say it is totally worth it to learn compared to watch tv for instance 🥰 I believe in you!
7 minutes in and you have improved my workflow immensely, not even in regards to the 2D stuff but moreso the quick favourites. Love how you added Ctrl + Space as that shortcut is heavily underrated.
1:00:00 in thanks for all this hard work, lots of non-grease pencil info here that can help a lot of new users and experienced alike. very informative, the music stopping threw me off though!
wait. was there no definitive music through half of this? I swear I heard like sims sound track in the background. Was that my brain playing tricks on me?
Thank you! Hahaha maybe my voice is music to your ears? 😅 But seriously I wanted to leave music out of this because there's so much information that music would be just another distraction besides my pronunciation. Cheers!
Took me all day to watch this because I had to keep pausing, taking notes, and trying these tricks out. This was packed with useful stuff! Great production quality. Thanks!
This is by far the most in-depth Grease Pencil tutorial i've ever seen, i learned so many things i didn't know even after already watching hours of tutorials on UA-cam, well done!
WOW LOL You are a perfect tutor in blender I needed this I searched many times about this topic Thank you Mr Danti..............I hope you will do more tutorials like this
This is the best tutorial. I thought I knew everything about GP, but you managed to show me some key tricks that will make my life a hell of a lot easier. Thank you!
Thank you so much! This really made my day! I recommend to also check out the follow up tutorials to this one, mind blowing features 🥰 I'm not surprised if bigger studios would start using GP more, so good!
hey! you should change the timestamp in the description from '0:01 Introduction' to '0:00 Introduction' to get the youtube timestamp feature working. it'll be much easier to navigate
Thank you! It sure is! I wanted to return the favour and create some tutorials after I learned so much completely free, backed by an amazing community that has posted answers to almost evey question possible :) So great! I'm super happy if I can teach someone to use a part of Blender :)
Thanks man! I started collecting a list like 6 months ago, first I was going to make separate tutorials of them, but the list grew too big so I just created this big one 🤣 I hope more people start to realize how great grease pencil is, it opens up so many creative possibilities it's crazy! Cheers!
@@Dantti in the era of ultrashorttutorials i love this kind of bundles. grease pencil is amazing, i kinda obsessed about capturing 2D aesthetic in 3D (i am baking some tutorial about it as well) And i am so happy to see that how GP becomes a great instrument about that matter
Thank you very much for putting time, effort, and knowledge into this video. This covers literally every possible question I could have had on the grease pencil tool!
Only part way through this and already finding a few things I hadn't figured out yet. One thing to note on proportional editing... if you do have a stroke that is close to circling back on itself and you are using "Connected only", it will still pick up the "wrong" end and manipulate it, unlike in other areas of Blender (at least as of 2.92 as well as 2.93A at the time I'm mentioning this).
90 minute video, 5 days later I am 28 minutes into this thing. lol This is a great video and I am taking my sweet time with it and testing just about every idea/shortcut presented and taking extensive notes while at it... I may get to the finish line in another week at this pace lol
This video is AWESOME, very insightful and helpful, in a categorized way that is easy to digest and go back to when needed, Thank you for Sharing, you are Awesome 😃

I am amazed how much excellent info you managed to pack into this video, with time stamps for easy future reference. Absolute gold, thank you so much for making this! 💙
Thank you so much! This did take insane amount of effort to make. So glad you like this concept! 🥰 I did think a lot if I should make separate videos for each tip but it felt even bigger struggle than this, one problem is that things change, but I try to make update videos when I have time 😅
@@Dantti It is truly a struggle keeping up with the light speed development of Blender lately! I do love that I can so easily refer to the timestamps in this video to quickly review whatever I need - there is so much to know about grease pencil! :)
Haha, so true! And also what you can create using Grease Pencil. I feel it's a lot more you can do than people realize. That's why I also love to create personal projects, there I get the perfect oppoturnity to test out different stuff, what works and what doesn't :D
@@KristenMcWilliam Thank you! 🥰 I've also covered that in this tutorial 😅 Under constraints - track to. Only few clicks and it gives you a very nice effect when you animate the camera. I still have few ideas to try out with the shoe. Maybe get one done this week 😄
Really good share. Many thanks. I love having 2D and 3D workflow in same greater tool. So many shortcuts shared across these workflows. You know, grease pencil is really a great tool for creating patterns and stuff too, for like clothing material patterns, especially with array modifier. Don't really see that talked about much, but I bet will get a lot of usage that way.
This is surprisingly informative, thank you for making this. I do have a question regarding the curve editing option around the 27:25 mark. I don't have that option showing up at all. Like, it doesn't even appear on my screen to click. I'm using version 2.91, so do you have to go into settings to add it to the top of the screen or something to have the option to activate or de-activate it? Edit: Oh, I see that it's only on 2.92 and above. Disregard. Still, very informative video.
One of the most informative Grease Pencil tutorials! Great presentation, visuals and humour. One question: how did you get such a cool lip sync for this video?
This video is fantastic! In the part about gradients you mention a method to control the gradient using an empty but I don't see it in the chapter list. I'm very curious to see how that works!
