I was 13 during the psychedelic year 1967 and even though I never did drugs (friends would say I didn't need drugs...I was out there already) I totally loved the psych music scene. I really got into this album and it has always been a favorite. Being a lover of different sounds this album delivered like few others. In the world of psychedelia this one ranks very high. Excellent video, Jeff! One of your best!! (and that's quite a feat)
Love this album and this period of the Stones, but man what an incredible psychedelic video you have put together here! Your editing skills are off the chart, well done!
Great album!!!!! She’s A Rainbow! 2,000 Man…I knew the KISS version first. Lol. This is probably the last album where the Stones would chase the Beatles.
I've always liked this album, since I first heard it in the early 70s. It's gotten a lot of hate over the years, but in the youtube era I see that a lot of people really dig it. I always look forward to the videos you come up with to augment your talks. . .and you surely did NOT disappoint this time. Thanks.
Hi Jeff!!! yes this era of the Stones seems to be a little messy in all sort of ways....The second tracks sounds pretty cool and different (psych) from all their previous stuff. "She's a Rainbow" has to be one of the best songs they ever created like a radio friendly pop/psych song for the masses.... cheers and be well
Cheers Cristian! 20 years ago I think this album was unanimously dismissed as a weak stab at psychedelia. Now more people are discovering that it’s actually pretty enjoyable.
17:03 I'm thinking that if those lenticular images had been the full size of an album cover, then most of them would have got damaged -- better that they are smaller, and have the cardboard border of the cover to protect them. :0) By the way, I think this album is a masterpiece! :0)
With the exception of a couple tracks, I really like this album. Weird, yes, but some great tracks. We Love You, Dandelion, and Child of the Moon round out the recordings, and probably should have replaced a few of the tracks on there. Thanks for another fine video, Jeff.
Jeff , this video is so entertaining! It's the best explanation that I've ever heard of this nontraditional but, for the most part, really good Stones album. Way to go! Also, Brian Jones' melotron playing here is just outstanding.
Great visuals , as usual . I was 14 when this album came out in December of 1967 , and my reaction to it at the time was , What the hell ? Aside from 2000 Light Years , and She's a Rainbow , I was having some trouble connecting with the other songs at the time . I've grown to appreciate the album more and more over the years . It's a great one to revisit every now and then . Thanks for reminding me that I have to listen to it again . Cheers !
Hey Jeff...Thanks for doing these videos. I enjoy 'em. I like this album. For me there's more to like than not. For all the flack the Stones take for trying to go psychedelic with this album, '2000 Light Years from Home' is a psych masterpiece. 'She's a Rainbow' is also great. I also enjoy 'Citadel', 'The Lantern', and '2000 Man'. The major misstep is 'Sing This All Together (See What Happens)...that could have just been a reprise, comprising of the last minute or so. I need to do a mono vs. stereo comparison, but typically the version for me is the mono mix.
This is the album where Mick runs out of ideas . Full marks to him for exploring new territory later on with Sympathy For The Devil , Gimme Shelter and Dead Flowers . I would love to know who put the hours in doing arrangements/overdubs such as can be heard on 2000 Light Years From Home . Apparently John Paul Jones and the other Jones boy were present . Bill and Charlie too .
I don’t think anyone would necessarily miss this album if it suddenly disappeared from their catalog but there are some fun and enjoyable moments here.
Found this album in the bargain bin 20 years ago. I still have a love/hate relationship with it. Favorite songs are Citadel, In Another Land, 2000 light years, and On with the Show.
Only Stones LP that the ENTIRE LP is an ABSOLUTE TRIP and EVERY song is GREAT! Creative, Lyrically Intelligentual, Musically Superior to ANYTHING the RS EVER Released
Killer video Jeff! Not my favorite Stones album! It’s amazing what KISS did with 2,000 man, very reminiscent of what Harry Nilsson did with , Without You!! Probably the only song i really like on this album, I freaking can’t stand ,She’s A Rainbow, quite possibly my least favorite Stones song ever, great job as always brother 👍🤘🤘
There are some silly songs on this record for sure. But there’s also some really good ones. It’s how I feel about Sgt Peppers too. But it was the era. Some color footage in here Ive never seen before. Citadel is a favorite of mine. Another awesome job!
I really like this one. It would’ve been cool to have “We Love You” and “Dandelion” as part of the album. It wasn’t until I listened to Can’s Tago Mago that I started to appreciate the really strange and experimental tracks. My tolerance really went up after that, for good or bad. Btw, they recorded on October of ‘67 a demo of what I’m gonna call a power pop rock song. Imagine if they had included this one 😂 ua-cam.com/video/XraTRtn14bg/v-deo.htmlsi=C4GB-SzW_I8dSUb-
I agree with you. Not the best opening album track. Should have called it let's all smoke a bong together. Because it sounds like they were doing that.
Not a good album in my opinion. Seems too experimental to me. She’s a Rainbow and 2000 Light Years are the only worthwhile songs. Thx for the great coverage which is always very interesting and informative.

Love this album along with the great Dandelion and Child of the Moon.
This was the Stones best period no question.

Thanks bro! One of their least known but most experimental albums.
Great video!! Congratulations. I love many songs of this record (Citadel, She´s a rainbow, lantern, gomper, 2000 light years from home...)
Thank you! Some great songs here and some very average ones.
@@jeffwhitchervinyldestinati4486 the same way I feel about “Pepper”
Now this is a cool album. Very experimental, in a good way.
Very true. So much owed to Brian Jones.

The best psychedelic album ever

I agree, the formatting of the cover is perfect. And so is the album.
Way under-rated. Great psych album and much better than all that showtunes hoopla on Peppers
Always loved this record!
It was one of my favorite albums when I took acid. Still like it and find it very underrated..

Thanks! If not for that “no singles” policy I think We Love You and Dandelion would have fit perfectly on this album and definitely elevated it.

Thank you Mark! This was a fun but challenging video to make because there doesn’t exist much footage from late 1967 to draw material from.
Just came across your channel, love this record some excellent psychedelic tunes
Thanks Steve!
Andrew oldman literally fled that country when one of those busts happened. That's not very good management representation to say the least.

I love this album and this band from there first album . I picked up the guitar because of Keith Richards .

Yeah this is not an essential album by any means but without it we might not have gotten the incredible music from the Jimmy Miller era.
Amazing pictures of the Satanic Album cover photoshoot,
Where would one find these?
Great job!!!
Thank you! I believe there are a number of good Stones websites that have the images. Also Getty images has some great pics.

enjoyed the video Jeff.
Thank you Rod!
Very cool video bro this is am album I have never spent a lot of time with but my dad owned it and the cover was wild to me as a kid
That cover is the best part of the album.
Loving these '60s Stones vids. Your commentary is always accompanied by great archival video. How long does it take you to put these things together?
Thanks Tom! It takes about 8 - 12 hours for each of these deep dives.

I believe you've played this from the stereo version. Do you prefer the model or stereo album overall?
Honestly I have never compared the two. Which is your favorite version?
Keep up the great work...fuckin awesome 👌
These shows are a audio and visual delight!
Thank you!
I agree with you. Not the best opening album track. Should have called it let's all smoke a bong together. Because it sounds like they were doing that.
The Stones had some good singles in the 60's. Their lps were mediocre at best.
This one hasn't stood the test of time. Decidedly weak.
Change your ears and soul.

Thanks! It sounds like an unfocused mess at times but the diamonds in this rough are definitely the two songs you mentioned.
She's a Rainbow - great tune. Not one of their better efforts overall.
