      It's amusing. Of course they are both great salsas. Leaving out the avocado or the squash and using more tomatillos makes a good salsa verde, too.

    my favourite thing about this video is you have comments thanking Arnie because they are allergic to squash and so the salsa falsa poses a danger, and others thanking arnie because they are allergic to avocado and can use salsa falsa instead! so wholesome, so helpful.

    Thanks for making the video! I literally made the salsa falsa from this video and it came out great! My wife enjoyed it and now I don’t have to worry about the color going bad!!! So glad this hit my TikTok feed!

      Thank you! I couldn't understand that word. I googled it and it looks like it's called calabaza and it's a winter squash. I can find green squash locally so I'm going to give this a shot with one of those.

    Also if they label it as "salsa verde," that's not a scam as there are tons of green salsa that don't have avacado

    Well, I'm not ordering salsa aguacate at taquerias anymore. I have an anaphylactic allergy to squash and no taco is worth going to the hospital. Thanks, Arnie!

      I was just up in Cadillac during the big snow a few months ago and found a fun little taqueria. Shout out to Cantina Bomba! They helped me keep my sanity during the trip.

    Spend as much time your mom,it's special. I lost mine just over a year ago,an still miss her. She taught me a bit about stove top cooking. Dad did more about cast-iron, but not the grill or smoker lol. You did.

    This was very cool! I do like winter squash and I never thought of using it in a salsa. I have to try this now since it is much cheaper than avocado.

    Ooooo, I L.O.V.E Salsa Verde (actually making some tonight for Pork Chili Verde) but I've never had it with Avocado, that I'm aware of. Both of these look so yummy...and I'm definitely planning to make both versions! (Can't wait to try them)

    Great I'll give this a try, since we don't have ripe Avocatos here... But one question, tomatillos ain´t around here either (not much of anything in stores here really) are red tomatoes ok, or does it have to be tomatillos? And are whole canned ones alright or no?

    I think it's only a problem if a restaurant says it has avocado but it doesn't. I actually think highlighting a salsa verde with the zucchini would be interesting to people! (especially in california because you know we hippies love vegetables)

    I used to have a taco stand and would use a head of lettuce instead of calabaza. You can add a bit of jalapeño juice for longer shelf life.😅

    Dunno if you have a Casa Ole’ near you, but they have a “Green Sauce” that my family is semi addicted to. They moved out ofour area a few years ago. I have been trying to make it since then. I had heard it was mostly Guac and Sour Cream. I wonder if it’s actually closer to this instead…

    Squeeze a half of lime in the avocado mix, blend it up, and it will stay bright for a couple days.

    I love them calabasa salsa myself. I sauté the jalapeño, onion, and garlic with vegetable oil. Then I pour that infused oil in with the veggies into the blender with the boiled tomatillo and calabasa. Just don’t use olive oil. It throws the flavor off.

    Because I'm a rather novice cook and not highly educated on authentic Mexican Cuisine....(have never heard of a Calabaza....is it aka zucchini or can be substituted with zucchini?)
    Q: do you roast the Calabaza like you do the Tomatillo? (until soft)

    I actually don't have to have avocado in my salsa verde to love the flavor, but I don't think I would want squash & oil in it. Those first ingredients you listed are what makes a good salsa verde a mi. Tomatios, jalapenos, sebolla, garlic, cilantro, sal, etc.

    I think the scam is on those who don't try both. They sound délicieux! In my part of the world, it's very hard to find avocados that are not the consistency of 40mm grenades, so yes, this is for me. Then again, I have never seen a tomatillo in ANY grocery stores here...

    I suspect that the added oil in the fake salsa goes a LONG way to providing the mouth feel and creaminess that avocados are famous for.
    Salsa doña does the same thing…. it’s nothing but jalapeños, garlic, salt, and oil… whip it up in a bender (emulsifying it) and you’ve got creamy goodness.

    It's only a negative if it's a pale comparison in taste to what it's trying to imitate or if it's just bad. Just rename it Zucchini style and it's just another sauce entirely for the menu..You'll think I'm crazy but I'm gonna make the Fakeuacate and use melted butter instead of oil and try to get that richness in flavor just to take it to next level.

      I definitely will but it’s a neutral oil so not much flavor (I use avocado oil for baking cakes, for example). It’s just better for you, health-wise.

    I use avocado oil in all my salsas, still neutral tasting but a lot healthier than any vegetable or seed oil… salsas basically are healthy nutritious vegetables, why not add a healthy oil as well

    Many fakes out there. Using blue cheese on steak to simulate dry age, putting cream in Italian cheese sauce so it holds better. All sorts of "hacks"
