Rapid charging requires liquid battery cooling which we do not yet have space for. We’re staying on top of range as best we can given space and weight. Range will increase as battery tech improves, and existing builds will be able to be retrofitted with better batteries as they become available.
Total kudos to you guys. During my Dads lifetime he had 17 Minis. I was lucky enough to learn to drive in one, so I have a certain closeness with them. Over here in the UK they have always been very popular with traditionalists (like myself), not classing the BMW cars as real Minis. They should have called them Maxi's as they're not exactly mini, in the literal sense. Personally I would give up more boot/trunk space to have a bigger battery and put my luggage on the back seats instead. I have some very happy childhood memories of travelling in classic Minis, so I totally admire what you guys are doing over there. You got another subscriber too.....
That looks really good! Love that you guys kept the classic mini look. Was wondering how you guys were able to throttle the motor, just flip a switch for Ludicrous Speed. Great job!!
@@mk2spitfire we have looked at a few but we Prima rally do Caledonia legal pre 1975 cars, unless they are for out of state clients. The convertible by Rover can’t be smogged in CA so we haven’t built them.
Thank you. Without introducing too much more weight a 40kwh battery will fit in our cars. Currently it has 31kwh spread over 3 battery packs with a 150mile max range. The next models will be closer to 40kwh and should hit the 200 mile mark using the most recent battery tec. With battery advancements being a world wide focus I would expect to see 300miles out of similar packs within 5 years. And rapid charging capabilities as well.
Sooo . . . 2 months and still no answer. I guess it's sort of an answer . . . if it was reasonable compared to a combustion version , you probably would've gotten an answer. Only for the wealthy. 😑
I love it, but for $110K - nah! For that kind of money I can buy a used Model S performance, a vtec mini, and take my family on a nice vacation to the beach for 2 weeks, and still have money left.
It’s not a cheep toy that’s for sure. A fully restored custom car is going to cost a lot more than a used vehicle. I like a deal myself, but people come to us when they are sick of the issues that come with an old vehicle. We create custom show level cars for our customers and after nearly 80 builds we have made a lot of people happy. That’s why I do this.
@@GildredRacingwhat if I don’t want it restored? Just a Tesla drive unit, Hyundai Ionia batteries (which I supply). So you guys do just the drivetrain?

For an American to say the A Series engine is nothing special, is greatly ignorant of how powerful and torquey it is per litre or ci, in comparison to anything produced in the USA at the same time. 34bhp from 848cc in 1959 up to 76bhp from 1275cc in 1964. What normally aspirated American performance car could produce 60bhp per litre stock from the factory in 1964? What American economy car could produce 40bhp per litre in 1959? In the late 1970s, America was producing cars with power per litre figures not seen in Europe, since before WW2, such as the 88bhp 4.1 lite straight 6 in the North American Ford Granada.. Even a year 2000, 260bhp 4.6 litre V8 Ford Mustang GT falls short of the 60bhp per litre achieved by the stock A Series engine in the Mini Cooper S, 36 years earlier.
I have mixed feelings myself…. You really need a Gas powdered one and an electric. And a Moke….and a Vtec woody, a Raptor Mini Truck, and a few stock Coopers for friends to drive when they visit.
Interesting. Any plans for more range and/or fast charging?
