Hi! I'm briefly back home before heading to Las Vegas for PourCon! I’m so excited! Managed to squeeze in some creative time and felt pretty rusty after nearly 3,weeks off. I changed course mid-stream and opted for a black base, and I’m glad I did! This piece was inspired by the color Iridescent Green-Blue by Pebeo Studio Acrylics, And I think the black base really showcases that color. THE RECIPE:
House Paint-base aka puddle for the substrate: Sherwin Williams Color To Go in Tricorn Black.
Pouring Medium aka PM Recipe: mix with all colors EXCEPT the cell activator:
Behr 8300 Untinted Deep Base Paint (Home Depot); and Valspar High Gloss Ultra Base C Untinted base (Lowe's). 50/50. Mix well. NO varnish added!
Use the colors of your choice! These tutorials are meant to educate and inspire! Here's how to mix:
Pigments: For a 3 oz cup I add 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of pigment powder to the cup, then add enough gloss varnish (any brand; I use JoSonja gloss varnish) to cover the powder. Mix well until all pigment is thoroughly wet; then add the pouring medium.
Golden, Atelier, and Da Vinci Fluid Acrylics: I put about 2-2 1/2 ounces of the pouring medium into a 3 ounce cup, then squirt in color until I reach my desired shade. Mix well.
For tube paint, I added an ounce of paint (heaping tablespoon) to a 3 ounce cup, then added 2 ounces of pouring medium. If still thick I add a squirt of Golden's High Flow Medium (thins and extends acrylic colors) and stir well. All pigments are 1/8th tsp. pre-disbursed with a small amount of JoSonja Varnish to wet it (stir really well), then add into a 3 oz. cup of Pouring Medium; stir well.
Cell Activator/Color: Australian Floetrol + Amsterdam Oxide Black. 3:1 Floetrol to paint.

So gorgeous! The Pebeo iridescent paints are truly stunning.
I am definitely a black and dark colour base kinda gal - there's just so much depth with them. If you find black too harsh or cold, try a prussian blue, dark violet, deep wine red, or payne's grey instead. Anything like that dries almost black, so you get that depth still, but it's a warmer/softer feel that straight black.

Hi! You are new to me and I am new to the art! This painting is so beautiful! I see in the description that you use a lot of house paint . Does it have to be mixed with pouring medium too? Do you just use it for black and white or for other colors. I am thinking it would be a lot cheaper!!
No the house paint that goes on the canvas first is straight out of the can! Make sure it’s satin or eggshell for best results.
Beautiful, is the finish of the valspar really important? I have a semigloss instead of high gloss

i want not yelling......there are a few of us in a group that use the caps as we have a hard time typing upper case verses lower case. not meant of yelling, as my typing is bad. i will not comment again. sorry you took that as yelling.
