I probably won't change your thinking, but....some days they do really surprise us. This horses' connections were probably looking for 3rd or 4th money, and they got a bonus. Can he do this carrying 126? Who knows, but now he'll be given the chance.
Hi , my cousin was an excercise rider for the Late Bobby Frankel. He told my cousin. " The horse doesn't know what odds it is, If the Horse wants to run its going to run" Remember that . Much better to eyeball a horse at the track. Good Luck Stay safe .
@@panchigancedo6247 Agreed. Judging only by the title, when I heard those fractions and saw Market Maven's odds I thought the "upset" was going to be a wire to wire victory. Usually when you let a frontrunner get away with fractions like that they run away with it. It really was an upset to have a last to first finish with that set up.
@@matthewuzamaki3510 it’s the same strategy that mid range sprinters use when they race. They’ll run at a very high speed for the first 3/4 of the race but still reserve a little bit of fuel in their tank for the final stretch. The jockey will decide when to unleash the horse and use his “kick” and run at full speed in the final stretch. I hope that makes sense.
I love Kendrick and he gets his first trip to the Derby!! 72-1 beats 50-1 but I sure loved that 2009 Derby run as MTB was invisible, threaded himself around and was well ahead before anybody noticed him... Both spectacular wins!
Watch Mine that Birds Kentucky derby! He was so far behind the group that the announcer skipped him and called the horse in front of him last, he was so far out he wasn’t even in the camera. Then he won
Silky ran a 6 furlong race where he was Forty One Lengths behind the rest of the field. Shoemaker was the jock. The Shoe said, "You never knew when Silky would run or IF he would run. But if he did, all you could do was hang on for dear life." Silky caught up to what looked like Merry-Go-Round horses and won by three or four lengths.
Awww maybe another ZENYATTA? watch all of ZENYATTA races. She is last then blows all of them out of the water at the last turn. She even beats stallions... best races I have ever watched. Heart pounding and just the best racing I have ever watched. This one was exciting to for the horse had terrible odds, good race...
Watching the horse thru the race again, it looks like the jockey is holding him back thru the race - but last? Then when it counts the horse, with giant strides, takes over the entire group in the last few seconds - WOW!
When I was young we used to go to races at Raton, NM. There was a horse that raced there called Light Brigade that the racing form would show "finished last by 30 lengths", etc. He ran last and he finished last. But every now and then as they were coming around the last corner, the announcer would say "Moving on the outside is Light Brigade" and he would blow by all the other horses and win going away.
Pletcher seems to be changing up his system some? Runnings his young colt's less, lightly raced, and he is shipping them all to CD by this weekend. Which I really like.
The talking heads discount the horse, but he looks like the real deal who found his role as the closer. Things have to shape up right for him to have a chance in the Derby. Speed duel on the front end. Clearing traffic thru the field. He'd have to put away quality horses on the way to the top, but it's not impossible. Those of you playing the Derby should consider this horse.
This is why my sports' heroes are horses. Horse racing combines speed, brains and heart. It is an under appreciated sport that will soon disappear. What a great pity.
Mine that bird was a well calculated ride. The trainer knew he had good closing kick and asked Borel to be patient and come with one late run. This horse on the other hand won on the fact that it was an absolute horrible field and then the front collapsed after the slowest fractions ever!

So much better than any pre-playoff NBA game
In fact it’s just the Kentucky derby that has that phrase because the race is a mile and quarter and it takes 2 minutes.
