H00D, Ya I got this phone about 4 months ago and it works really nice and I got it form Telus for $30 steal in black/gray but it might change of where you live because I live in Canada
My family is moving to Straight Talk. Now that I have moved over, I can't believe I ever paid $600 for a phone. Was I crazy? Anyway, moving to a less expensive phone is tricky. I got the Core Prime, and it's wonderful! I love this review of the Grand Prime. My daughter is getting it. Thank you for such a wonderful review!
The Moto G is similarly priced with a higher resolution display, more RAM, and more storage space, with a lighter version of Android. Is Samsung really banking on their brand name that much?
Jeffrey Heesch Moto isn't available everywhere.. Samsung is. It's amazing how they manage to do this. PS, I'm using moto g 3rd gen, but i had to go through the trouble of importing it. For most people here, it's not worth it, and they go for what's available.
I have the Cricket version (paid $129) and this phone is a beast. I've had a billion phones (seriously, its a sickness i am dealing with) including the Note 4 and this phone is as smooth. I am constantly switching between several apps and this phone never misses a beat. It always continues where I left off (sometimes its annoying how long it holds what I was doing in memory). You wont be able to play high res games but for everything else this phone is butter. I've even tried some other "affordable/budget" phones and keep coming back to this. It just feels right! I know there are some variants with only 1 gig but mine has 1.5. DON'T SLEEP ON THIS PHONE! Samsung has done the best optimization on this phone that I have ever seen!
I had note 2 for 3 years and just brought this phone for $150 and it's the best money I've ever spent. the he'll with a $600 rip off this phone is great and has everything any basic person would need
getting this phone this weekend, I coming from the galaxy s4. Seems like a good phone, the screen isn't the best but I'm the most exited for the front camera. 5mp front camera Samsung phone for 80 dollars? that's a no brainer, everybody should buy this phone for the value
hey I'm getting it too. I also came from samsung galaxy s4 since mine fell and screen went black more and more everyday. But after watching all the reviews I'm pretty impressed by it so I cant wait to get it. :)
Thanks for the review! The issue I have with Samsung is one thing which may not work other people is that their mobile OS is not updated. When you get Lollipop set at 5.1 then that is what you get. No updates after that. Samsung does not update their software OS. Also on the higher end models the OS is lacking behind. I am using the tablet version when I need to store a video and few picture and that is it.
I just brought the galaxy prime for $49 on black Friday sales. No matter what negativity you have this price will always be worth it. So I brought two (myself and gf) as back up phones.
It was funny. I seen the sell ad online. So when I went to the store they didn't have the phone out on the shelf or have an ad for it. I asked them about it & showed them the price. The clerk said oh let me check the back. He came back and said oh yeah there is only two left. I got them both like I said for $49 each. Seemed like they had a lot more in stock, they were maybe trying to keep them for themselves, hoping no one would ask.
So, this phone is in the middle of being a high end phone but, it's a good phone for people who want something very close to the Samsung Galaxy generation but on a affordable level.
I have this phone and it's actually not that bad. I love it and good for everyday usage. For high end gaming like gta games you may need to run it very low. But still I'm satisfied
Outbreak God Oh, okay. Thanks for your update on this phone because I have the Samsung Galaxy s3 and was thinking about getting another phone. So, I ran across this phone and, I was just researching it to see what it's like. I love phones and, my life evolves around them... Lol
+Alfred Lindsey LOL yea I suggest this phone I have the gray one. I promise you love it. And I agree about phones being a really important aspect on our lives :D
Hey susan can you make a video showing games running on it? id love to see if it can run the games at a playable fps with no lag hopefully. im gonna get this on black friday.
I'm looking into buying this phone but have one bug question, I'm currently with metropcs and since metro runs on the t mobile network, would this phone be compatible/work on the metro pcs service ? thanks ☺
honestly , I'd be fine with 4.4 for the rest of the phones life but it would be nice too be tech savvy and current eventually I just got it for Christmas .
Do you think you can review the Toshiba satellite series? :) thank you (my model is the 12 Gb RAM and i7 with 3.0 top processing speed .. Thank you btw love your videos and keep em coming!
I am completely satisfied with this phone, which I have had for almost a year, except for one thing. It is very difficult to hang up at the end of a phone call. I hammer on that red button with the phone receiver silhouette, but usually have to wait for the other party to hang up. Problem when I get an answering machine. Anyone have a solution for that?
You spoke just about everything except for one thing, .... does the Galaxy transfer info in both directions through it's USB port, or is only Bluetooth and WiFi the only wat info can be transferred with this phone? I'd love to get an answer. No-body ever mention's it in their reviews.
I love this phone. Only cost me about $150 I stuck in a 64 GB ship and does everything that a good phone should do. We way better than having to spend $1000 on an iPhone x
This one is $129.95 but it comes with tons of stuff in a bundle (Car Charger, Case and 1350 Minutes/Texts/Data, 1-Year of Service, Triple Minutes for Life and Pandora One Subscription), and I'm paying with FlexPay - $25.99/month for 5 months. It's Android 5.0 Lollipop. How does that work, though? Will it be updated automatically at some point? www.hsn.com/products/samsung-galaxy-grand-prime-tracfone-w1350-minutes/8196009?variant=8196010
I actually refused the order when it arrived because I got a great deal on a brand new Samsung Galaxy S6. I'm glad I don't have to deal with HSN anymore. They're a nightmare.
Yeah the Network is what is holding this phone back a bit. It would probably shine better on Cricket or something, since then it would at least be using the far superior in terms of coverage and data speed AT&T network. Sprint's network is really poor where I live too. The screen is a bit dated obviously since 1280 x 720 would at least allow for a really nice sharp detailed display. At 5 inches and with a 960 x 540 display the Galaxy Grand Prime has 220 PPi resolution. Is it Retina as Apple would call it? Unfortunately no. You would have to hold this phone 16 inches away from your face or further in order to not be able to discern the pixels that make up the screen. Most folks hold their phone 12 inches away. But I am also willing to bet that this phone will offer longer battery life compared to the flagships.
I don't have the time to wait around for the multitasking lag, their terrible displays, and poor quality cameras, but it's always nice to see what the entry and mid level are getting up to from time to time. Phones with specs like this need stock Android. Keep it as light as possible.
You make to big of a deal about it being sub $200 this phone is awesome it eats the iphone 6s alive in vs battles and it also keeps up with the galaxy s6 edge in just about everything it even beats it in a few things. The resolution of the screen doesn't really matter all that much because on screens this size things look really nice at the resolution the grand prime has. You can buy 3 grand primes before you get anywhere near the cost of the s6 edge so it is a huge value.
this phone is nice with a very good camera the only thing is it freezes up WAY too much I have to restart it almost everyday and its slow sometimes especially when I'm on the internet. I've never experienced so many freezes with my previous motor G phone.
one thing i hate about galaxy grand prime is that the internal memory is 8gb but almost half of it was used for the preinstalled application. like there is only 2gb left for me to use. in some phones if the Lable on the box says it has 8gb of internal memory it really has 8gb of FREE UNUSED INTERNAL MEMORY.. BUT IN SAMSUNG GRAND PRIME IT ONLY HAS 2GB OF FREE MEMORY.
I like the avant more than this. This phone feels cheap. At least the avant felt like an s5 mini. This isn't even close to an s6. Edit: I've used this phone more and it started to grow on me. It's better than the avant.
Micheal Cuntdrey yeah I'm going to have to take my comment back. The grand prime really isn't that bad. I bought it for my mom and I used it when I was setting it up for her. It's better than the avant.
+Afanasi “JJ” Bushmanov lol man you get the understatement of the year award. The grand prime blows the avant out of the water it dominates the iphone 6s and keeps up or beats galaxy s6 in most day to day uses. People look at the price and think it must suck but really with this phone you are paying for a Honda civic and getting a Porsche 911 turbo
trying to find info.for brother on this phone about ringtones. is there ringtones easily avaiable to get besides what is on the ringtone settings. brother is not able to or want to learn much about tech. stuff. he works all time just to survive and i would like to help without stressing him to much!!!! thanks in advance for any info. God Bless
This phone works fine. Get a microSD quick as you can, because it has only 4 or 5 gb of storage out of the box that you can use (better than LG bargain phones at least). The camera is pretty meh on the back, decent enough if you just want a quick photo for Facebook or something, but nothing pretty. The selfie cam isn't that great. However, it looks way once you take the picture than the live preview indicates. Battery is also kind of bad. It lasts maybe four hours on heavy use, and can take up to three hours to charge. But it performs fine for every app I've used so far (no heavy gaming), but fine for anyone who wants a cheap smartphone and is willing to trade off a good screen, camera, and battery.
Grayson Maximillian Phoenix FWIW for t-mobile users: $149 at walmart (t-mo or Walmart family box, same phone), and unlike those other three phones, this one will support all of the T-Mobile features: HD Voice, VoLTE, Wifi calling, Wifi-to-VoLTE handoff, RCS, and Most importantly, Band 12.
Ajith Antony Okay but to the average user they won't care about that. They care about the prettier phone and this is not pretty and compared to these devices it is subpar in many ways and is it not band 12 also supported on the devices I stated and wifi calling for some plus more importantly they'll also receive Android Marshmallow which is slim that this will receive it
Grayson Maximillian Phoenix I agree the average user will not recognize that they forgo some extremely useful features when they choose those phones. All the features I listed are only available on t-mobile branded phones, including Band 12. T-mobile is only deploying LTE on Band 12. LTE is data-only. If the phone does not support t-mobile's VoLTE, then it can't do any calling while connected to band 12 and there is no other signal. Motorola disabled band 12 to comply. If The Idol or Zenphone still have those bands active, it only becuase they are misbehaving, and they don't sell enough phones for t-mobile to care. The the only unbranded phones that support VoLTE and wifi calling are the Nexus 6 and Iphone six, both of which have a special ROM for T-mobile. No other device but the grand prime does RCS out of the box yet. As to updates we'll see what happens. The usefulness of updates is also up for debate. I haven't studied the "M" features to know if there is anything meaningful.
Ajith Antony M is very meaningful and nothing wrong in getting the latest update in general which no doubt the Moto G will definitely receive and it is up for grabs for Asus and Zenfone
Grayson Maximillian Phoenix It's only $240 is you are unfortunate enough to buy the Sprint version of this phone. T-Mobile version is up to $100 less depending on where you buy it and isn't loaded with as much bloatware as Sprint's version. The Sprint version is the worst example of this phone.
+Dream Legue' King look, I know what I'm talking about, I've owned a Samsung device, and am very familiar with it. One every Samsung device, there is a Samsung Store for apps and other things, that are exclusive to Samsung devices only. On certain app stores, you can download the OEM's theme store, like I did on an HTC device
+Dream Legue' King Newsflash genius, Samsung do have thier own store in almost every single phone and tablet they make. If you ever owned a Samsung phone you would know this.
it's quite disappointing that Samsung did not update the first galaxy grand prime to Android L.. the first grand prime isn't that slow to run lollipop..
The affordable disposable phone has a removable back and a micro sd slot but their super expensive flagships that people may want to use for a longer time don't offer these options. Really, Samsung?
I wonder how long Samsung can manage this strategy. As the OS gets more and more complex, the attack surface gets wider. And the number of malicious attackers is growing, and more and more people are conscious about the security of their phones. This selling small amount of many different cheap models cannot sustain software support. So will people keep buying cheap phones knowing they soon will be basically left alone in the cyber jungle full of preying attackers?
DarkBioCloud Thank you! January will make this moto g 1 year of having it but it's been having so many difficulties. I was considering this phone but someone who I know has it says the quality is horrible
Nattyproxen Based on what the benchmarks don't lie this phone keeps up with the top tier phones. At this screen size the super high resolutions aren't that important fast is fast after certain point and this phone has a super fast quad core processor so fast in fact that most people would not notice a speed difference in day to day use vs a galaxy s6. All I can say is find one use it then tell me the quality is horrible because I own one use it everyday and say the opposite. With this phone you are paying for a Honda Civic but you are getting a Porsche 911 Turbo.
Honestly don't get either. If ur shopping for budget phone, save a little extra and get iPhone SE. I've had a few budget androids before they've all been absolutely horrible! At first the phone (HTC desire) is fast enough for my needs then month later it becomes extremely slow. currently I got 6 plus, it's a great phone. If prefer android, s6 is significantly discounted
Jacky Zhang I don't like iphone SE because of the battery it drains fast due to the fast procesator and its expensive I already had great experience with the HTC phones I had the desire 610 and it was great it lagged sometime but not so bad if it does starts to get really laggy and buggy I just root it and done but well thanks for the suggestion anyway
Jacky Zhang I had a similar experience I had a lg leon first fine it lagged sometimes as the time passed the phone started to get slower and slower till the phone lagged terribly when dialing and calling literally you cliked call and the phone took like 30 sec to respond it was annoying when you needed to call quickly
+J.M Mejia I was kind of interested in that since it looked really good but I am on t mobile and they still don't have it I think they soon will but I checked its only available on sprint, boost and att well I think I can buy it unlocked but I don't want to take the risk that it isn't compatible with t mobile
Be mature ugh, anyways some Grand Primes don't have Lollipop because like Cricket they don't have updates yet. But Metro or others companies have Android L already.
you think everyone could afford a s5 s6 who cares its a great phone for the price and if you think it not so good then you should purchase high end phones for everyone for low price there you go have a good day
+Daniel Paku Hi! I actually own the Galaxy Grand Prime ( I have a cheap shock proof phone case) and I have dropped this phone twice in my pool. It survived both times, though it isn't advertised as waterproof, it will survive a couple dips.
This budget phone has a better version of android than my Note 4, which is why it will be my last Samsung phone ever. Their update process is inexcusable, as is how badly touch wiz ages.
I've had a really bad experience with this phone, the storage space is to low, I can't even store a single app on the phone without having force closes. Samsung could of uninstalled some of there bloatware and saved some space its ridiculous all the Samsung apps are installed and are using up all the space.
this phone is ok i have it need sd card to run lut of apps i payed 129 on hsn gut 1350 mins mine is trackfone its ok for budget phone i phones our beather has google talk
I like how she didn't bash the phone the whole time :) nice video !
the shade has been thrown
PandasDontShare, Ya I like how she didn't bash about things
Thanks for not comparing a 200 dollar phone to an 800 dollar one, and then calling it shit. :^)
This is a great phone, i got mine at walmart for exactly 100 dollars.
Great price, great phone. Great life.
H00D, Ya I got this phone about 4 months ago and it works really nice and I got it form Telus for $30 steal in black/gray but it might change of where you live because I live in Canada
Sophia .J nice mine's black and gray too.
camrea sucks doe
I just got this phone and I'm surprised it works great and looks awesome!
Your reviews are great and unbiased! Congratulations! Keep up!
The Moto G is similarly priced with a higher resolution display, more RAM, and more storage space, with a lighter version of Android. Is Samsung really banking on their brand name that much?
Jeffrey Heesch Yes, they are. Samsung budget phones are terrible.
Grobee worst part is people are still buying them, when there's better options out there like moto G
saini22505 yes, and when I ask them why do they buy these phones, their answer is: "Well, it is Samsung".
Jeffrey Heesch Yet so many people will still buy that just like iPhone or used iPhone XS
I own the phone, the selfie cam is pretty lackluster, although it looks less bad once you've taken the shot than when you have the preview.
hey I'm getting it too. I also came from samsung galaxy s4 since mine fell and screen went black more and more everyday. But after watching all the reviews I'm pretty impressed by it so I cant wait to get it. :)
Ima get it too because my Galaxy Avant's charging port is messed up
omg phonearena needs to take some tips on how to review phones from this channel.. much much better review.
I have a samsung grand prime for the tracfone, its a great phone! alot of bells and whistles, and alot more than most will admit.I recommend it :)
Wow! Thank you for doing this wonderful review ^_^
you consider the phones price before doing the review unlike the others

its finally running on the lollipop 5.1
I've been on marshmallow for 2 or 3 months with my moto g3
Thanks for the review! The issue I have with Samsung is one thing which may not work other people is that their mobile OS is not updated. When you get Lollipop set at 5.1 then that is what you get. My family gave me a Samsung grand prime phone and for a budget phone, it served me well for the price point.
Could someone tell me where to find that wallpaper?
I just brought the galaxy prime for $49 on black Friday sales. No matter what negativity you have this price will always be worth it. So I brought two (myself and gf) as back up phones.

This girl is actually pretty good at reviewing phones. Very unbiased
I just came back from vacation with this phone and it was fast and snappy. I needed fast and snappy especially with maps.
Hey Lisa, what is that wallpaper??
So, this phone is in the middle of being a high end phone but, it's a good phone for people who want something very close to the Samsung Galaxy generation but on a affordable level.

I always go to you for my reviews, any chance of a Galaxy Note 5 review soon??? Hoping so! I love my Note 4 and wondering whether worth it to upgrade.
Do the front keys light up on this samsung device?
no
Nah, but if you've been with Galaxy phones for a while, you'll kbow which key is with. Recent apps or the back key
hello dear, i was wondering if you would recommend this or the lenovo a7000 in terms of front facing camera photo quality?
Lol for the viewers that came here from that crappy PHONE ARENA review.......
YepXD
XD. How Did u know?
yas 😂
True
lol me
Hey susan can you make a video showing games running on it? id love to see if it can run the games at a playable fps with no lag hopefully. im gonna get this on black friday.
hey Lisa, are you going to review the new galaxy note 5 and s6 edge+?
jbuggieee Lisa will probably be reviewing those after they have been released. Be patient.
***** alright lol
Is this the same as the Samsung Galaxy Go Prime for at&t? I can't find any reviews for that one.
I'm looking into buying this phone but have one bug question, I'm currently with metropcs and since metro runs on the t mobile network, would this phone be compatible/work on the metro pcs service ? thanks ☺
Lisa, what should we buy Samsung or new Apple?
honestly , I'd be fine with 4.4 for the rest of the phones life but it would be nice too be tech savvy and current eventually I just got it for Christmas .
Do you think you can review the Toshiba satellite series? :) thank you (my model is the 12 Gb RAM and i7 with 3.0 top processing speed .. Thank you btw love your videos and keep em coming!

I have this phone and love it with Cricket, 10 gigs for 60 bucks a month
I was gonna get this from cricket ($129) but then the screen threw me off mostly because won't let me watch videos in 480p if I bought it
You spoke just about everything except for one thing, .... does the Galaxy transfer info in both directions through it's USB port, or is only Bluetooth and WiFi the only wat info can be transferred with this phone? I'd love to get an answer. No-body ever mention's it in their reviews.

my samsung galaxy grand prime from cricket is still android 4.4.4. The software update (5.1.1) of this phones is available to all grand prime?
Please help me out. Can you buy a Samsung Galaxy avant without a sim?
bought this phone yesterday for 125 dollars it's a steal
its $97 @ bestbuy

How do I get 5.0 ??? I'm still on 4.4 which I don't mind bc it's nice . Does cricket over the 5.0 update ??? I'm using the Grand prime and I love it.

I don't have the time to wait around for the multitasking lag, their terrible displays, and poor quality cameras, but it's always nice to see what the entry and mid level are getting up to from time to time. Phones with specs like this need stock Android. Keep it as light as possible.
Im considering this phone, or the Huawei Raven, thoughts?
This phone.
tracfone is going to get galaxy E5 but it cost $349, can't see spending that price for a tracfone

What carrier has the bootloader unlocked
This phone sounds a lot like the galaxy avant, which came out a long time ago but has a lot of similar specs, like the resolution and ram.
John b i think it's actually similar to the Galaxy Prevail 4G LTE

However, it looks way once you take the picture than the live preview indicates. Battery is also kind of bad. It lasts maybe four hours on heavy use, and can take up to three hours to charge. But it performs fine for every app I've used so far (no heavy gaming), but fine for anyone who wants a cheap smartphone and is willing to trade off a good screen, camera, and battery.
240 for full retail is terrible when you have the 2 gig Moto G, Alcatel Idol 3 and the Asus Zenfone 2 which are all superior
This VS Lumia 640. Do it!
Are themes available in the Samsung store???
samsung stores ??? what a fucker it is play store . yes you can download launchers from it
+Dream Legue' King look, I know what I'm talking about, I've owned a Samsung device, and am very familiar with it.
T- Mobile Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime or Verizon LG G Vista?
Got this phone for free from metro pcs as an upgrade so satisfied
for this phone unlocked does it work with verizon?
it's quite disappointing that Samsung did not update the first galaxy grand prime to Android L.. the first grand prime isn't that slow to run lollipop..
I HOPE SAMSUNG WILL DO SOMETHING ABOUT THAT.
6:50 for camera
thanks Bruh
+Marcus Johnson Thanks
does this phone have the finger print lock ?
no
Is this better than the Samsung S3??
Is it reasonable to move from a Moto G (2014) too this phone?
+Nattyproxen It won't be that big of a upgrade but ya you can switch and in my opinion this is a much better phone that the moto g
DarkBioCloud Thank you! January will make this moto g 1 year of having it but it's been having so many difficulties. I was considering this phone but someone who I know has it says the quality is horrible
Nattyproxen
Based on what the benchmarks don't lie this phone keeps up with the top tier phones.
YES ! :D :P :)
Gogeta Toturials Daniel I made the switch in February, love it lots!
what about screen resolution is it good or bad ??? and thanks alot
Excellent for the cost
thank you brain
i am thinking between the htc desire 626s or this the samsung galaxy grand prime
Jacky Zhang I had a similar experience I had a lg leon first fine it lagged sometimes as the time passed the phone started to get slower and slower till the phone lagged terribly when dialing and calling literally you cliked call and the phone took like 30 sec to respond it was annoying when you needed to call quickly
try the galaxy express prime. it's on at&t knows as the j3
+J.M Mejia I was kind of interested in that since it looked really good but I am on t mobile and they still don't have it I think they soon will but I checked its only available on sprint, boost and att well I think I can buy it unlocked but I don't want to take the risk that it isn't compatible with t mobile
grandma why does it run android lollipop while other grand prime users dont??
Be mature ugh, anyways some Grand Primes don't have Lollipop because like Cricket they don't have updates yet. But Metro or others companies have Android L already.
Does anyone know when this phone on Cricket will be updated to 5.1.1 Lollipop.?
it realesed
it realesed
+Dream Legue' King It must have just come out for Cricket's Samsung Grand Prime phone..
***** hey i am sorry man . Where i live we bought our phones in a small shops not from cricket or else and we not trust the online shops

s3 neo or grand prime?
is it mhl capable
the upload date is August 14 today is the 15 of August 2016
you think everyone could afford a s5 s6 who cares its a great phone for the price and if you think it not so good then you should purchase high end phones for everyone for low price there you go have a good day
Can it be upgraded beyond 5.0?
My mom had this phone.
What does "sprint" mean?
1betterthanyou - its the name of one company that provides wireless phone service in america....
+MechHead Naga GMG thanks
is this phone better then the alcatel one touch fierce
10x times better
is it waterproof
lmao😂
+Daniel Paku Hi! I actually own the Galaxy Grand Prime ( I have a cheap shock proof phone case) and I have dropped this phone twice in my pool. It survived both times, though it isn't advertised as waterproof, it will survive a couple dips.
I have this phone and I love it..
Same.
That display was state of the art 5 years ago ahah
this phone is 129 on cricketwireless
can i have some because never had samsung phone just iphone
This budget phone has a better version of android than my Note 4, which is why it will be my last Samsung phone ever. Their update process is inexcusable, as is how badly touch wiz ages.
The Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime GoPhone is only $118 at Walmart including tax
wallmarts sells this battery nout much
need manuel for more information
At least this is not the phone arena review
I've had a really bad experience with this phone, the storage space is to low, I can't even store a single app on the phone without having force closes. Samsung could of uninstalled some of there bloatware and saved some space its ridiculous all the Samsung apps are installed and are using up all the space.
Try getting the Lg escape 2! Way better
Plz help this or the j1
