People are complaining about tier 8 match making... Have you played tier 8 lately? Tier 10 matches 80% of the time. I'll happily face off against Patriots, Defenders, Scorpions, etc... rather than IS-7s and Death Stars.
Pershing was classified as a heavy during ww2 both super Pershing and the patriot have the “T” designation leaving them in the heavy line while the Pershing was changed to the “M”26 it was reclassified as a medium in later years Another fun fact about the patriot or e5 is this is basically the Pershing version of the Sherman jumbo since it was so successful the army wanted an up armored version of the Pershing as they did with the Sherman
Great job on both reviews, Captain...as always! Several people have already mentioned that the M26 Pershing was initially classified as a heavy tank, but this was purely for morale purposes during the tail end of WWII...US tank crews took a beating in their Shermans, and when the M26 finally came along, it was labeled a heavy. 5 years later, heading to Korea, they were mediums...
Beardface, even though the Patriot has high pen, it actually has a worse penetration chance than say the Defender or the Tiger II against angled armor do to it being APCR both on standard rounds and premium. APCR has only 2 degrees of normalization versus the 5 degrees of AP normalization, which means and armor plate at 60 degrees to APCR is actually at 58 degrees but on AP it actually at 55 degrees and HEAT/HE have no normalization. I was using Tanks.gg awhile back to study this mechanic in more detail seeing how the Wiki gives a explanation that I found a little confusing. Here are my results that I kept in a text doc in case I needed it: ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Target Tank: E 75 Original Angle: 58.9 degrees ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Subjects: IS-7 130mm S-70 - AP listed pen 250mm 74.6% chance VK 100.01 (P) Ausf. B 12,8cm Kw.K L/50 - APCR listed pen 250mm 59.6% chance WZ-111 122mm D-25TA - HEAT listed pen 250mm 48.7% chance All of the guns in the test have the same listed pen, however they are of the 3 ammo types AP, APCR, and HEAT. I came to find that at an angle of 58.9 degrees (which a lot of tanks use this angle be it from the shape of the hull or the best way to angle the vehicle) an APCR round needs 8% more listed pen than an AP round to have the same penetration chance as the AP round a HEAT round needs 15% more listed pen than an AP round to have the same penetration chance as the AP round a HEAT round needs 5% more listed pen than an APCR round to have the same penetration chance as the APCR round. All that is just so they would have the SAME penetration chance, to have a better chance they would need more than that. In order for the Patriot to have better pen than the Defender when aimed at angled armor it would need at least 244mm of listed pen. If the Defender angles appropriately for an APCR round that the Patriot has only a 29% chance to pen at the weakest point of the Defender (an angle of 58.4 degrees). Even though the Defender has 5 less listed pen at the exact same angle the Defender has a 41% chance to pen another Defender due to the fact the Patriot is firing APCR and the Defender is firing AP. This normalization is why the pen was left unnerfed and why tanks like the Fatherland actually have a hard time penetrating armor. However tanks like the KV-4 you destroyed, with thick flat armor, have more to fear from high pen APCR than standard AP do to the lack of angling on their armor.
The M26 Pershing was classed as a heavy medium. I bought the bundle as well (I have spent so much money on this game) but I have to agree this is the, slightly, better of the two in this bundle. What you said about the 90mil versus the slope of Swedish TDs is true as well. I had a game losing confrontation with a tier 8 Swedish TD, it simply bounced my shots to the front. Good review, and I am looking forward to your review of the very fun to play Defender.
The Commander's hatch, while small, is overmatch-able for a 90mm gun by the way. If all else fails against the Swedish TDs HE does good damage due to their armor being paper thin and getting all of it effectiveness from the angle, HE can't bounce.
correct Stark S1, Strv 103-0 and 103 B can bounce 90 mm, Stark need a 91 mm if I remember, 103-0 and 103B you need 121 mm calibre gun so even tanks like Tortoise, Chieftain and T110E5 will bounce but tanks like KV-85, IS, IS-3 basically Russian Heavies will overmatch. You can shoot a UDES however as you only need 61 mm calibre gun.
Don’t fret folks - it’s good but it’s not OP. The pen makes up for the lack of alpha dmg; and the MM has it (in my experience thus far) playing up more often than not. Great review as always Capt.
Patriot is a heavium DPM machine. The turret is trollish, the mobility is great, and the 90mm pen is pretty ridiculous for tier 8. Awesome freakin' tonk!
As always, great review. I picked up some tanks yesterday I’ve been wanting (Lycan, T28 Concept, etc) but for whatever reason have held off on the Patriot & Defender. I may just pull the trigger on them...
You can get the Lycan Free this Halloween, but I am planning on buying the same bundle to get the T28 HTC and the M6A2E1 even though I already have the Lycan. I am a little torn whether to get the Bundle with the T14, M6A2E1, and the T34 or the bundle you mentioned. Either bundle I choose will give me a tank I already own (T14 and the Lycan).
I think having 230mm of penetration makes up for the low alpha damage to be honest this tank is fine where it is . I'm gonna pick a patriot up soon maybe until I see the review of the defender then decide which one is best to pick up
Due to the fact that the Patriot has APCR as both standard and premium rounds its pen is actually lower then listed unless you are firing at flat armor, which at its tier you are really only looking at Japanese Super Heavies and KVs. APCR has reduced normalization and to save a long explanation in order for the Patriot to have the same pen as a defender against any thing that has some angle it would need 8% more pen than the Defender ie. 243mm of pen
I know, but the Defender is firing AP, which had better normalization, do to the Patriot Firing APCR it has to have 8% higher listed pen to have the same total penetrating power against angled armor. 225 x 1.08 = 243
I will say that gun and armor make the Caernarvon absolutely obsolete. Better pen, 10 more alpha, much higher ROF, higher top speed and traverse on the tank itself, and realistically better armor. Really shows how weak the Caern is in the current meta without the buff it got on PC
TheBamidd the patriot is much for flexible than the nameless if anything this is OP it's a t32 with better mobility, Dpm, pen, accuracy, who cares if it's alpha is low just fire twice for the high alphas once and possible bounce. I 3 marked the nameless and can say it's good but not OP. sry for rant
I think I may get this and the Defender when I get paid. Was going to get the Captured and King Tigers but changed my mind. Hey Captain who are you playing for in Tankbowl-USSR for me.
Due to the fact that in the every nation vs every nation op (that gave us the Vanquisher) USSR beat America 88,000 to 55,000 I am betting on it happening again. As well as I saw a poll on the forums where you could vote for which side you thought was going to win and by the time I say it 92% of players said USSR.
savage perfect time for you to start , this is pretty much the best premium you can buy , the defender is pretty good as well but it got console nerfs.
I would recommend the patriot or one of the bundles they currently have going , they are good value for money , id recommend the m6a2e1 ,t14 and t34 bundle
I'd start with a lower tier premium. 1:Since you are newer you may not be sure exactly what type of tank/playstyle you'll prefer. 2:They are cheaper so you don't drop too much cash on a tank you might not like 3:You tend to get a higher experience bonus so you can level up crews faster 4:It's best to practice more before heading to higher tiers 5:Choose a premium from a country that you plan to play so you can train your crews (after you get a good crew you can transfer them to the premium to boost their experience). In the future when you have a good crew and purchase a premium, ditch the crew that came with it and just use it to train the other crews. Use the crew that came with it for a new tech tree tank. GL!
Basically a t32 with better mobility, dpm, pen, accuracy, and the mg port is not a weak spot lol what next rocket launchers in case it has to deal with tier tens?
Hangman's Noose It seems like all the tiers have been having bad match making lately. At first I thought it was just because of the madness of the Tankmas ops but its still horrible.
No first comment? Well then I guess I will be the one then for once in my lifetime I accomplished something you guys should all be proud of me..... As for this video still watching and yeah so but great job on the review
MCES LEX yes they would because I didn't buy the patriot for the shitty camo on it and also most skinned or flag tanks if you're not from that say country then you most likely want a non-skinned one and imagine how many people would if not for the stupid camo they put on many tanks in the game they introduced cartoon tanks just because they knew that half of Asia would buy them you obviously don't follow WOT that much because most players always ask WHEN is the non-skinned version coming
This is a pretty cool tank. My only issue is that there's a 90% chance of being thrown into a tier 10 match. Being two tiers weaker all the time is garbage matchmaking imo

ArmouredElephant lol that correction took way longer than I expected , yes you are correct but I was lazy to come and edit it

Stopher yeah. I had time to load HE too, as it was manoeuvring into a better position, but I didn't think of it.
Doesn't that suck, haha. So busy worrying about one thing you miss an opportunity
correct Stark S1, Strv 103-0 and 103 B can bounce 90 mm, Stark need a 91 mm if I remember, 103-0 and 103B you need 121 mm calibre gun so even tanks like Tortoise, Chieftain and T110E5 will bounce but tanks like KV-85, IS, IS-3 basically Russian Heavies will overmatch.

Dude I have been refreshing like crazy waiting for these reviews lol
U have a great smooth narrator voice, the jingles of console, good work
RIP tier 8
Just picked this tank up a few days ago! Definitely a good tank.
The Patriot shoots APCR as its standard ammo as well as its premium rounds. That is why it has 230+ penetration for a 90 mm gun.
Michael Floyd yeah it will help the players that camp base in top tier heavies SMH
Good review Cap’n! I love both tanks! And even though I was more excited about the defender, I have better games in the patriot.
It's dpm is great and turret too, but the lower plate is butter, if you get flanked you are done.
correct, no changes from PC version on this.
As always, great review. I picked up some tanks yesterday I’ve been wanting (Lycan, T28 Concept, etc) but for whatever reason have held off on the Patriot & Defender. I may just pull the trigger on them...
Derek C. Why buy the lycan? You can get the t71 or wait for Halloween
Yerrow Desu - Looks, really. Plus it was in a package with the T28 HTC and Sexton I.
Derek C. Makes sense
You can get the Lycan Free this Halloween, but I am planning on buying the same bundle to get the T28 HTC and the M6A2E1 even though I already have the Lycan. Well good bye tier 8 matchmaking
kyle lambert Yep this game is even more fucked up now with the introduction of these overpowered pay to win tanks.
Sarge Sacker25 their only bad when they meet lower tiers, heavy TD's can more than deal with them.
Is no op, have 10mm less low hull armor and less accuracy than pc so is no op
Pershing was considered a heavy tank initially with its 90mm gun
I have not buy any tanks I don't like to spend $ on a game but I really like this tank so I'm going to buy it
Good review Capt. :-) Do you think the Boundel is worth the price (because the defender is nerfed)?!?
Friedrich Irsic what on the defender got nerfed?
Connor philipe aim time, dispersion, track traverse, lower glacis armour, and maybe something else, can’t remember
Connor philipe Console specific changes:
Lower front hull armor: 140mm -> 130mm
RoF: 4.0 -> 3.87
Chassis rotation: 30 -> 28
Shot dispersion: 0.44 -> 0.47
After shot dispersion: 3 -> 4
Aim time: 3.2 -> 3.4
Now I'm super glad I only got this instead of the crappy defender
Connor philipe its not crap... Among the best tier 8 heavy...
Nice review
Great Vid, Bro
ty sir for the review...
I think having 230mm of penetration makes up for the low alpha damage to be honest this tank is fine where it is . I'm gonna pick a patriot up soon maybe until I see the review of the defender then decide which one is best to pick up

Looks great, I honestly think this this is less overpowered than the Nameless, and at least it's a useful crew trainer so it's a justifiable purchase.

which would you say is better, the freedom, or the patriot?
joshua vaipulu Without taking the price into consideration, I'd personally say the Patriot. It's got better pen, rate of fire and mobility.
25:40 disappointed you didn't just ram the light x) The game was lost anyway
I just downloaded this game on my ps4 and im thinking to buy a premium tank so what premium should i buy?
savage perfect time for you to start , this is pretty much the best premium you can buy , the defender is pretty good as well but it got console nerfs.

What was nerved on the Defender?
The Flameley Phantom The gun handling & dispersion. The accuracy is awful at 0.46
Basically a t32 with better mobility, dpm, pen, accuracy, and the mg port is not a weak spot lol what next rocket launchers in case it has to deal with tier tens?
When will the non cheesy skinned version be available? Paint job looks like a garth brooks shirt.
Well, it is the Patriot...you know, a nationalistic American tank.
thebeerpoacher are u from England? Lol
No
Hes asking when the T26E5 without the patriot skin is gonna be available
it is avaliable now
I trying to decide about this or defender.
Honestly I think this is the way I’m gonna go.
Not t a fan of Russian heavies any more.
Good review
longbellycaster patriot all the way I have both
longbellycaster get defender
Premium ammo should be priced according to alpha.
Good bye super Pershing
How to solve bad tier 8mm Buy patriot or defender > SPAM GOLD
Hangman's Noose It seems like all the tiers have been having bad match making lately. At first I thought it was just because of the madness of the Tankmas ops but its still horrible.
No first comment? Well then I guess I will be the one then for once in my lifetime I accomplished something you guys should all be proud of me..... As for this video still watching and yeah so but great job on the review
This tank is easy mode. I got all 3 ace tankers in a day.
They should sell the non-skinned versions at the same time they would sell more
Trickster Mixer no they wouldn't, because no one would buy the flag version.
MCES LEX yes they would because I didn't buy the patriot for the shitty camo on it and also most skinned or flag tanks if you're not from that say country then you most likely want a non-skinned one and imagine how many people would if not for the stupid camo they put on many tanks in the game they introduced cartoon tanks just because they knew that half of Asia would buy them you obviously don't follow WOT that much because most players always ask WHEN is the non-skinned version coming
its such a ugly tank though....
