성음에서 레코드 나오던 시절, 아쉬케나지, 프레빈, 런던심포니 조합으로 협주곡 1번, 2번 레코드 1장, 3번, 4번, 파가니니 랩소디 레코드 2장으로 구매했었는데 70년대초 녹음이라 조금은 올드한 사운드라서 아쉬움이 남았었는데 아쉬케나지가 2000년대로 와서 하이팅크과 로얄 콘세르트허바우 오케스트라 RCO 와 다시 녹음을 해서 과거 음질에 대한 약간의 아쉬움이 해소가 되었다고 느꼈던 기억이 납니다. 특히 파가니니 랩소디의 경우 오케스트라가 RCO가 아닌 필하모니아라는 점이 조금 특이하내요. 하이팅크는 런던심포니와도 오래 했었는데 필하모니아가 등장한 건 다소 의외긴 했내요. 그래도 제일 중요한 18변주가 연주 및 레코딩 모두 멋지기 때문에 다 용서됩니다~ㅎㅎㅎ

And this is one of his most exquisite works.
The blend between romanticism and modernity, the old world and the new, it is all there. And the ‘slow movement’ is a masterpiece of peaceful grace and beauty.
