The one thing I disagree with that Stavvy said is that Dems didn't talk about or try to do anything about inflation. They did for a hot second and it was shouted down as protectionism. This is the larger problem with the Democrats. They keep trying to please these conservatives who don't care about or respect them. The minute they cry about being called weird or "socialism" the Dems stop pressing the attack and stop pushing the agenda in a meaningful way.
Canadian political strategist John Duffy said something once very accurate and (strategically) complimentary about former Prime Minister Stephen Harper (paraphrasing): "He doesn't focus on getting votes, he focuses on getting the votes *he can*." It's such a crucial distinction and it angers me how many Democrat candidates trust strategy firms that blatantly steer them away from this.
Part of the issue is that the MSM takes right wing bad faith b.s. and seriously, as if it deserves intellectual discussion. When Trump said "Kamala became black" they went around asking dems if they agreed with that statement, rather than just pointing out the fact that he was being a stupid liar, and everyone who didn't immediately denounce him was also a stupid liar. CNN and MSNBC think that treating both sides equally is the same as being neutral, even if one side is objectively wrong. That's the reason that so many Americans are now in the mindset that medical and economic experts are just someones opinion. They think their vibes are as valid as someone elses researched calculations. The legit think science is just liberal opinions because MSM gives them equal weight.
@@floydammons5429 I remember years back seeing a climate denier with no scientific background whatsoever debating a guy with a PHD who had worked in climate science for like 40 years on the news. That was when I concluded that MSM is worse than useless - it's actively harmful.
In fairness, if they wanted to help people with inflation they should have done even more to raise wages. Raising the minimum wage would have been good. Raising the lay of federal workers would help too as companies are forced to compete with those wage floors.
The Covid pandemic birthed a new era of price gouging that is still unchecked. this brief exchange about politics came at the very tail end of a two hour long conversation between the two of them. you can get people to be pretty open to your perspective when you just just talk to them like normal, and don’t condescend. Stav could have just immediately shut Theo down when he said problematic things (like the comment about immigrants doing assaults), but then he probably just wouldn’t get invited back on these shows. instead he just redirects that energy towards more worthy targets (ie. the rich billionaire who benefit from that kind of attitude) while trying to remain charitable as possible. as a result he’s able to remain in the same rooms as comedians like this and remain a force for good in their company - somebody who can have constructive conversations, and try to stem the rightward drift of his peers.
Well that's the thing. Stavros is not insulting Theo here. They are just having a regular conversation. He isn't trying to be rude or throw shade. Not that I disagree or personally care about people talking about cis white guys, but we on the left seriously gotta stop saying the phrase "cis white guys". Anti-cis, anti-white, anti-straight and anti-male rhetoric is a major reason Trump got elected again.
If you think about it, this is a real concern. If young men are disenfranchised and feeling like they need strong authoritarians to give them purpose…well, perhaps society framing them as cis male as a derogatory way is not helping. It is pushing them further into isolation and desperation, and straight into the far right.
@Zytri92 Yeah exactly my point. I do personally have very strong progressive values, but woke scolding people who don't have those same values or are maybe just a bit ignorant does not seem to work and pushes them further away when they may very well have been receptive to these ideas otherwise.

I don't think it's that Kamala didn't recognize the problem, it's that she didn't reflect people's emotions. She didn't get to the root of the problem but she did directly address price gouging and supported unions. It's just that Dems expect people to make that bridge in an information environment based on outrage. She repeatedly highlighted the difficulties of raising children and caring for aging parents. She wanted to give tax credits to people with children. But she didn't point out an explicit enemy because liberals cannot critique capital itself. The price gouging is just the profit motive. No one shits on Trump for never talking about stagnating wages in the face of record profit. I hate liberal economics but Kamala was everything a normie says they want.
At the end of the day, no one associated with this White House was going to win. We should have seen it coming with how monumentally unpopular Biden is/was. A majority of the country sees Trump as the agent of change this cycle. The last 3 general elections, in my mind, have been a vote against the incumbent as opposed to a vote for the other guy. '16, the inevitable backlash that comes from 8 years of one party in the White House. '20, Trump's coalition turning against him because they were mad about the Covid economy, and '24, Biden's coalition turning against his VP because of inflation. It'll swing back next cycle. Unless we repeal the 22nd amendment or something.

Stavvy is great. Cometown (along with Chapo) were some of the only voices in the podcast space who were actually talking about Palestine in an anti-zio way back in the mid-late 2010s. I'm a big fan of Stav. He comes off as someone you'd expect to be right wing, and then is brilliant at sneaking in actual progressive values into conversations.
Honestly I knew Theo von was like this years before anyone else did. He did a sense where he tried debunking white privilege. And his excuse for that in the joke was that he was also poor growing up. Which is honestly really flawed logic. and most white people that are performative moderate liberals will use this defense mechanism. Because the thing is when we say White privilege it doesn't mean that everyone who is white is well off or well connected. What we mean is that we don't experience the same difficulties for certain situations. White people are more likely to get hired and less likely to be pulled over by the police. That doesn't mean that they have impunity when they're driving or that they're more qualified. it's just that when they hear privilege, they think that we envy them for no reason. And honestly when he first told that joke I understood a bit of what he was trying to communicate. It isn't that white people don't suffer at all. But I'm also not going to pretend that minorities experience the same amount of difficulties. Just because I didn't ask more manly as a boy in elementary school, something that confuses me because we didn't even start going through puberty until the late end of it, male classmates would say that I'm gay or that I act like a woman. But now I only really do that around the women or not straight guys because they're the only ones that are more safe to be around. And even then some women and not straight guys will say that they can't tell. And that's not even the worst problem I have. They hear that and they assume it's a blanket statement meant to attack white people.
Hasan is way richer and hasn’t changed his stances. The guys on Chapo do pretty well too. Bill Burr is also getting more Lefty populist in his comedy as he ages. Being rich doesn’t de facto change you, but it will if you lose your connections to regular people. See Chapelle.

He had Bernie on first. Gabor Mate on recently as well. He really wants people to come together to help each other in these very dark times. THAT'S why he was talking about Trump and Bernie together. He actually sees the divide as a distraction. And you see his lack of worshipping your political ideals as red flag.
The ENTIRE basis of the left should be to bring Theo into the party, front and center. The entire platform should be BUILT around Theo Von. That will be the most successful version of the Left imaginable.
Start by putting Nancy Pelosi in prison. And getting rid of all the identity politics and censorship/verbal gatekeeping. You should celebrate Theo for showing you exactly where to go from here. He isn't anti-immigration. He's joking with his comedian friend Stavvy. Who isn't ANYTHING like she's pretending he is in her god-awful analysis.

Nobody has done that to him in a friendly interview. Theo is one of the few, if not the ONLY one who could do that and get away with it.
The entire platform of the Left should be built around Theo. He is begging you to wise up and listen to real working Americans. Like it or not, he is a man of the people. And the people have spoken. Your way of belittling people like Theo for having no interest in a party which heralds people like Nancy Peloso as "one of the good guys", is OVER. Nobody is buying it anymore. The DNC isn't the "lesser of two evils." It's just evil. And until WE, not MAGA, put her and her friends in prison... we have zero credibility with the working people in this country.

The improving inflation in the US over the last year was actually being admired by virtually every European country, but Americans (rightfully so, if not still ignorantly) only care about their own bank accounts and the prices they see at the pumps/stores.

this brief exchange about politics came at the very tail end of a two hour long conversation between the two of them. you can get people to be pretty open to your perspective when you just just talk to them like normal, and don’t condescend.
Stavros is also a comedian so his main goal is to make people laugh. Plus he doesn't punch down in his comedy even to hecklers.

The fact the Theo Von can basically say that about immigrants, without batting an eyelid and without irony, shows just how far right the cultural conversation has shifted. 10 years ago, he may have thought that but no-one bar fringe figures would say something like that on air/online/etc. I know he said it because he is smart enough to know his audience will lap that kind of sentiment up and hee-haw like donkeys. Actually Kamala Harris did bring up the issues of price gouging. Some people just didn't pay attention.

She never gave a specific policy prescription on _how_ she would address it.
She dropped the issue _entirely_ after the DNC, once the Harris campaign became the Democratic campaign.
And finally, it rings pretty hollow to tell people you'll address a problem if they elect you _whilst currently in office_

I never heard anything from Kamala. She must have been on corporate "news" or giving speeches to rich donors.
The comments being left is exactly what you said, some people just didn't pay attention.
Not that I disagree or personally care about people talking about cis white guys, but we on the left seriously gotta stop saying the phrase "cis white guys". Anti-cis, anti-white, anti-straight and anti-male rhetoric is a major reason Trump got elected again.
"Cis - Male"
"Gis- Female"
Cis Is SLANDER
If you think about it, this is a real concern. If young men are disenfranchised and feeling like they need strong authoritarians to give them purpose…well, perhaps society framing them as cis male as a derogatory way is not helping. It is pushing them further into isolation and desperation, and straight into the far right.
@Zytri92 Yeah exactly my point. I do personally have very strong progressive values, but woke scolding people who don't have those same values or are maybe just a bit ignorant does not seem to work and pushes them further away when they may very well have been receptive to these ideas otherwise.
Yes! I am a very non-PC liberal man. I am undeniably masculine and that has put some of the more sheepish liberal women on a defensive first path when talking to me. Explaining becomes mansplaining, that sort of thing. Men far weaker than me draw back from that shaming and come up for air in a place they are always made to feel welcome. You can't blame someone who just wants to feel a connection for veering off to where they are offering that connected feeling in piles with no judgement of them based on gender. There has been another excellent point made about democrats, for a group that touts an open mind, some of us are very quick to close it to people that oppose us. I am super guilty of that. That does not endear folks to your cause, at all.

@@ElyonDominus She did several podcasts. It's amazing how poor black people heard her message, but for some reason, poor white people were too busy being racist to listen or thinking her "cackling" laugh would make it difficult for Putin to take her seriously.
She did. You don't even have to be literate to have heard her speak about it. Came up during the debate.@@ElyonDominus
"I will address this if elected" doesn't mean much coming from someone _currently in office_
Cum Town lmao
Dude trying to explain what Theo tried to say with the joke was torture lol.
Stavvy seems to effortlessly funny when he's just shooting the shit. Stavvy's world has had me dying of laughter all the time.
I can see the courts letting racist rules, such as segregation, be protected under freedom of speech
Kamala said she was going to stop price gauging.
But she stopped talking about it after the DNC, it was a clear choice for her to drop populace rhetoric during the campaign. It was a dumb choice and that's why she lost. She was crushing it when she was saying that.
@@foamingclean596 DNC was a real pivot point.
3 months before the election
She completely stopped talking about it early on.
Theo Von obviously plays stupid when he’s podcasting, just like Lex Friedman. It’s the best way of being adjacent to that far right Rogansphere, while being considered too stupid to bear any responsibility for being instrumental to elevating far right figures with interviews that ressemble hot stone massages.
“I’m just asking questions” is another form of this.
@ In entertainment that’s alright. Political leaders should be questioned by hardtalk reporters that have zero interest in befriending and palling around with the people that write and enforce the laws by which we are supposed to live. That used to be well understood.
Straight statements of "rapists are coming over the border" most definatly puts you in the far right Rogansphere. Thats not playing stupid thats making an old school fascist statement that has no place in civilized societies. He is definitely responsible for making those statements.
To be fair. Cumtown is gross... And that's why we love it.
He understands democracy: he’s Greek! Bravo Stavros!
stav's affability/intelligence really shines in this clip
Stavy is the king!
Democrats should have run Stavy for president, articulating your thoughts was a challenge for others.
Theo is the poor man’s Joe Rogan.
And by poor I mean “suffers from massive brain damage.”
That's just JRE.
@ Zero lies detected
And this shows the stupid man’s tyt you want the most Brain dead takes you come here
Cumtown is my favorite leftist podcast
I'm a big fan of Stav. He comes off as someone you'd expect to be right wing, and then is brilliant at sneaking in actual progressive values into conversations.
Stavy does this all the time. Glad you guys credit him.
I love Stavros is essentially laughing in his face and theo is completely serious
He claims that he use to go to the gym with david duke and they were buddies
Stavros must not be rich enough to cross over yet. Enjoy him while he lasts.
Hasan is way richer and hasn’t changed his stances. The guys on Chapo do pretty well too. Bill Burr is also getting more Lefty populist in his comedy as he ages. Being rich doesn’t de facto change you, but it will if you lose your connections to regular people. See Chapelle.
Nah, dudes been a millionaire for a minute now. He's just a decent human being.
those guys are pretty rich. it's a hope for the future. the Gen X comedians don't believe in socialism because when they grew up america won everything. the millenial comedians (and people) grew up with american capitalism failing and being inferior to China. totally different set of assumptions
Only the scum bags cross over.
These guys were getting 5 figures…a month…for years. Stav is doing alright.
Stav should ask out Emma
Idk if he’s changed or just revealed more about himself but this isn’t how I remember Theo when I used to listen to him. Very disappointing.
He was always a funny and thoughtful but gullible idiot. Now he’s been around all the Rogan-sphere guests-right wing influencers and comedians who are all also rehashing the same guest lists on their respective podcasts and shows.
And it’s pushing their popularity and making a ton of money for them too. It just becomes a comfortable place where he doesn’t need to check himself or have any self awareness.
Sweet. It was a master class on how to talk to a dumb guy. Really appreciate you sharing this clip.
