  • The cajón is a box-shaped percussion instrument of Peruvian origin. In Flamenco, the cajón is often made of wood and has one open side, which is struck with the hands and fingers to produce different tones.
While the cajón itself has origins in Afro-Peruvian music, its incorporation into Flamenco is a relatively recent development. In the mid-20th century, Flamenco musicians embraced the cajón for its versatility and ability to produce a range of percussive sounds.
In Flamenco, the cajón player, known as a "cajónero," uses their hands, fingers, and sometimes brushes to strike different parts of the cajón, creating a variety of tones and rhythms. The instrument is often played between the player's legs, with the front surface serving as the striking area.
