Thank you for posting all these historical films of Baltimore railroad and trolley lines. I was born in 1950 and these videos bring back memories of the city when I was a young child.
A year after I was born! Great memories of how Lexington Market used to be! I rode the streetcar once as a young child. My mom and I were headed to Liberty Heights Avenue by way of Garrison Blvd.
Color movies without audio, but more than 65 years ago! Priceless electric streetcars long gone make this a historical gem for old guys like me who were too small to see it then.
Hey, if you had a color movie camera back then you made big bucks! LOL :) Imaging how many other historic 8mm films are rotting away in folks picture/film boxes. Kindof sad... :(
One year before I was born, brother! I remember all that from the early 60's. When I was little you could take the bus everywhere for about $.40. Heck, I used to ride the bus lines round trip for $.40 just to tour the city when I was 6 by myself. You can't do that anymore, I mean go by yourself at age 6 or for $.40!!! :)
At 11;28 there is a shot of a young man . That many railfans called Willy lump lump. A nice guy picked on by the groups he was in. He lived in Brooklyn and came down for this trip. As he aged he got old and very ugly. Not a bad guy, He was OK to me. He has been dead for many years. Never lived to see his love, the streetcars come back. Notice how the photographer follows him in the film. Like anyone that was different or even gay. The group mocked him. That was so the photographer could show Willy to others in NY or where ever the film was shown. In the old days these films were only shown in rail meetings or people's housing.
