  • In this video, student Juliet shares information about the Hotel Management programme at Breda University of Applied Sciences. The first year is divided into two semesters, with the first semester being practical. It is called "Siblicious," which is their learning company. Students work in different catering outlets, such as the restaurant front office and other atriums, gaining valuable experience. They run these outlets with fellow students, applying the knowledge learned in lectures to real-life situations.
The programme offers various courses, including finance, marketing, economics, investigative abilities, and wine certification through the WSED course. Students can also choose from a range of language courses such as Spanish, German, French, Dutch, and English. The diversity of courses is appealing to students who are uncertain about their specific career goals within the hospitality sector.
A typical school day varies depending on the semester. During practical semesters like Siblicious, students have more contact hours on campus. However, during project-based semesters, students have more freedom to decide their meeting hours and work on their projects independently. On average, there are approximately 14 to 20 hours of lectures on campus, with additional self-study and project work.
The first year concludes with a challenging project called the "Capstone Project," where all the courses from the year are integrated. Students collaborate to create the "Lobby of the Future." This project requires creativity and can be a personal challenge for those who do not consider themselves naturally creative. However, it provides a sense of accomplishment upon completion.
Breda University of Applied Sciences also organizes events where big names from the hospitality industry visit the campus, providing students with the opportunity to network and make connections for potential placements or future employment.
In the third year, students undertake the "Integrated Project Revenue Management," where they analyze real-life data from a hotel in Amsterdam and make revenue forecasts. This project challenges students to apply their knowledge of revenue management in a practical setting. It offers valuable learning experiences and enhances proficiency in tools like Excel.
Throughout the programme, students benefit from guest lectures delivered by industry professionals. These lectures cover various topics such as wine, coffee, and operational management, providing additional insights into Juliet's future career.
