My mountain has the same issues too with the train track in the way of the supports. I did not build up as high and used 2x4 wherever it worked plus Duplo bricks to save on materials. The main difference I did was the art panels as base, which was a nice idea at first, but white plate does not want to tack down to it, as it bends slightly… so for now I just layer it on top and am focusing on the rock work. Rocks / Mountains are so part intensive… 🙈
I debated how to make the supports without using or buying too many parts. I had those support pieces in my inventory and this seemed like a good place to use them. No doubt there is a better, more efficient way to get the right effect, but I'm learning as I go. Hmm, shame the art panels aren't working as intended. I've never held one - only art set I have is the world map and it's still in it's box! is the spacing off and that's why it won't tack down? Tell me about part intensive! I hope I ordered enough to get a decent effect. I got plenty of those brown plungers and green flower stalk to makes trees, so that should fill it in quite well too. Really appreciate the comments! Thank you!
@@CalliesBricks I found a solution - wanted to share in case others struggle too. I am now using 1x2 plate in the corners under the 6x8 and a 2x2 or 2x4 in the middle… part intensive but am mostly using up weird colors from the backlog and it’s only for the raised platform so 🤷🏻♀️ Am curious to see how the 16x16 plates do and may switch to that next year
It’s coming together incredibly well. Love the train track’s design and how well it blends into the snow. Excited for more and I can’t wait. Gave video a huge like and keep up the great work
Thank you for such positive feedback! The rock panels have finally shipped - I hope they will be here so I can build the cliff over the Thanksgiving break. 🤞🦃
@ No worries you deserve it. Glad to hear, the rock panels have finally shipped. Fingers crossed they are, so you can build them over the Thanksgiving break.
I was going through the exact same problems the last few weeks. Love your way of doing it and may do it like that next year. I put tile beneath the track and then tiled off just the track on top and left the gaps open, which show then the white tile beneath. Not perfect, but worked. Was lucky to find the 2x4 white tile at the PAB wall a few times and had stocked up
The struggle is real! Thank you for the praise :) I got the 2x4 tiles on the PAB wall too this year and I had the 1x4s from a previous year that I grabbed bc I figured one day I would want them. PAB wall for the win, for sure.
You have a perfect idea how to create your winter village. Have you considered to use Lego Duplo as the base for your mountain or maybe even toolo? I started using Duplo for train tunnels when i had my first Lego trains, straighst are really easy but turns can be really hard to create. Even Wood can be pretty finicky when the legs of your platform are getting hit by the nose of your train.
Not heard of Toolo! Duplo would have been a great idea! Shame I don't have any in my inventory to use. I am concerned about the supports around the curve too. Luckily it doesn't have to look good as it will all be hidden, but to hold sets the way I want them to, it will need to be pretty strong. What is your favourite method for supporting above the corners? I'd prefer to use bricks rather than wood as my craftmanship is well... questionable :)
@ it depends on the curves you use. Using Duplo has the advantage of staying on the grid and more flexible points of mounting the supports. But wood works without using double the base plates und making the hight really hard to workout. Honestly Lego Duplo Toolo is just an Idea not sure how secure this becomes, but there are pieces which should make it possible to get 45 degrees mountains. Toolo is like technic for kids, starting in the 80s and 90s and nowadays only can be found in the education line. I got it as a kid and had really lots of duplo bricks and toolo, that’s why I started using that and later I tried wood but wasn’t too happy because building covers is more part intensive with than with Duplo where you just can use the right colour of bricks and don’t have to hide them..
Thanks for the info! I will try and find some Duplo (used or discounted) to make a larger, future mountain I want to make for the LNC. I kind of love the idea of the castle sitting high about the city like they do in my native Scotland. I thought I would need to use wood to do that, due to the height, but I'd rather stick to bricks if I can make it economical enough. Appreciate the tips. Have a great one!
@@CalliesBricks you too. Even like the first Duplo Bricks can very helpful, with the ripped under-layer but Not sure if they really can adapt to Lego (less clutchpower). Even Buildings and especially the doll House Doors and Wall Elements are very great for curves. They are yellow with lighter Brown doors. So convolutes with regular lego bricks are necessary to adapt the duplo to Lego because you need two by twos or two by fours or an any even 2by anything.
Ahah, the train track works very well with the modular plate system imo. The height difference of the cliff offers opportunity to construct a huge ski slope, possibly big enough for a dragon to land on!
One future upgrade I can see is a motorised ski slope on one side. I think that would be splendid and add more movement to the village. Love your thought process… always space for MORE dragons!! 🐉 🐉🐉🐉🐉
@@CalliesBricks Cool, say if a motorised ski slope means: Pulleys, cables and cabins, I'm all for it! What about a ski slope that could move from side to side (for example) to simulate an avalanche? A slope built with technic beams covered with regular plates is going to be strong and lightweight as well. To make the technic slope interesting (pleasing to the eye, or neat), now that's a mammoth task, I can imagine.
I love this and second everyone saying duplo. LEGO even had something bigger called Quattro that can be found very cheap. Granted Quattro won’t connect to lego, but lego connects to duplo which connects to Quattro.
I will need to start sourcing some used Duplo and look into some quattro (hadn't heard of this, so thank you)! I want to build a bigger mountain for the LNC to sit on and this sounds like the way to go to get the necessary height and support in a cost-effective manner. Cheers. :)
Love your attention to detail! 🫶
Thank you!! 😊
The track looks awesome, looking forward to seeing the cliff build progress.
Thank you - it took some perseverance but I'm happy with the result. The rock panels are finally on their way!

@@CalliesBricks maybe it’s because I am trying to put 6x8 white plate down, but for some reason I cannot get it to stick down
