I really think Russell would have loved this Celtics team. It is the least star based Celtics championship team since Russell’s teams. It exemplifies everything I ever heard Russell say about basketball; everyone being dedicated to the team, everyone knowing their roll, and everything starting with great defense and offense based on selfless play and ball movement.

All of West’s offensive numbers were done without the three point shot. If West played today, he would be a bigger more versatile Steph Curry and an elite defender. He was that good

I never got to see West play. My father had been outside of LA for a year in the mid 60s while he was in the Marines. In our house there was only one answer to the question “who was the greatest shooter of all time?” Jerry West.

When I was a young aspiring basketball player, I tried to model my game thus - run the floor like John Havlicek and release the ball like Jerry West. A great thanks to those two gentleman for the inspiration.

There's a video of him shooting from within the last 10 years. Had barely touched a basketball since the mid 70s and was still automatic.
