That man was out dancing his own dancers, no lip sync-Straight Mic Vocals!!! Killing da Game!!🙌🏾👊🏾
a lot can be said about him but "he can't sing/dance" is NOT one of them. dude was an ARTIST. killing it in every possible way. singing. dancing. working the crowd. stage presence. just top notch.
Back when award shows were worth watching until the end!
It was a big deal to stay up and watch award shows! The acts were amazing, like "here's a free concert for you!" - something you couldn't see anywhere else, esp as a young kid who couldn't go to actual shows or just get online. Now I can stream about anything, anywhere so when I realized they just had another VMA, I couldn't believe they're still trying to do that 😂 I love new music, but no one can create this particular kind of energy on a tv "event" in this era. The closest thing I can think of in recent years (for me, and I'm unashamed) was waiting up to live stream Beychella lol
2:50 the foot work was crazy😱😱‼️ his feet hit every drop off the beat🔥🔥🔥 ‼️
Bruhhh I love it
Bobby was a bad man in his prime. Crazy to think u had Michael Jackson and Bobby Brown in the 80s killing the dance floor 🔥
And don’t forget Madonna, Cindy and Ms Jackson if you’re nasty 😘
Don’t forget MC Hammer
And MC Hammer!
Prince
You crazy af if you think Bobby compares anywhere near to Michael Jackson on the dance floor
Bobby made those stiff necks wake up, one of the best performances at the soul train awards ever, iconic.
This was THE performance. Bobby Brown!!!
His best ever performance
Met Bobby during this era in Chicago after his appearance at a popular spot called Seagulls(sp).
He was a complete gentleman, dressed impeccably , hair shiny and laid . He had and needed a huge security detail to get out of the building.

This is the night he met Whitney!
01/15/23: I'm currently reading Bobby's autobiography, and I'm reading the part about when he first met Whitney - before he performed in this video. He said Whitney had her friend grab the robe he flung off and asked if she could keep it. He said that she could cuz he didn't think he'd wear that suit again. I'm only on page 122, and it is such a good and revealing book so far!!!!!
Love tht Bobby brown style
Bobby ALWAYS put it down 🔥

When I go back and look at his videos, I am in awe of just how talented this young man really was. He wasn’t on top as long as he probably could have been, but wow-what a ride!

I hate seeing performers have to hold a mic. He needed one that fits behind his ear.
He got off though. 🕺🏾
Did they have earpiece mics in 1989?
@@YeahitsMeSylvia Kate Bush was the very first artist to do it in ‘79, but Janet Jackson made it popular when she performed during the ‘87 Grammys. In the years to come, every artist who sung and danced wore mic headset beginning in the 90s.

When I say everyone lip syncs now people fight me saying no they aren’t, it’s usually clear when someone is really singing or not. People are so dumb.
How does he strut the stage, talk, ad lib and always jump back in synch with Heart &Soul so effortlessly?? 🤩
He rehearsed like crazy. It’s in his book. It’s a good read :)

The Browns were definitely bad boy alright! They was all abusive as well
Fun fact - Rosie Perez (actress who was a presenter on The View) choreographed his early dance routines. She was still in school but got talent spotted dancing in a club and invited to dance on Soul Train. She then got talent spotted on Soul Train just before Bobby released his first solo album, and got asked to choreograph Bobby's first solo album. Bobby credits himself with teaching Michael Jackson his iconic dance moves - but Bobby got his dance routines from Rosie.
Your time line don't add up. Rosie is a few years older than Bobby. She's along the age of Michael. They about 10 years Bobby's senior.
His showmanship is CRAZY!
Nobody could touch Bobby’s swag back then he was hot and he has made a name for himself he had to leave new edition because he was in a class by himself
I’m glad Bobby got to experience the solo success he did even if it was for a few years bc his peak was MASSIVE! In 1989 he outsold every other popular artist at the time with Don’t Be Cruel. Performance wise Bobby had James Brown/Michael Jackson type of stage presence. And he was arguably just as good of a dancer in his peak. He wasn’t traditionally a godlike singer like a Michael Jackson, Luther Vandross, El Debarge, or Johnny Gill but he carried his own vocally in his songs. Bobby shined on stage that’s why he’s known as the KING OF STAGE! He also was one of the first popular r&b artists that consistently rapped in his songs. Him and Teddy Riley were the main pioneers of the New Jack Swing sound that dominated r&b/pop music from the late 80s to early 90s.
Yeeees, I remember this performance!! Oh how I miss this time in life!
So this is the performance made Whitney and Bobby got close right?
Who wouldn't fall in love with that performance back in 1989?
Yes, he commanded the stage and that was it for them both lol. You can kinda get a sense of the energy in the room and on the stage from the video. I can imagine it was greater in person.

I am so sorry I didn't have cable at that time but Bobby Brown was the Man of the Stage because he helped put Attitude and bad-boy swag back in Black Music back in the day.
This wasn’t on cable when it originally appeared. It was the local channel 39 or wb I believe.
Whatever channel Soul Train itself came on in your area, that's where the awards would've been aired.
