"Station wagons: there is no finer American institution." That's what David Freiburger wrote way back in 1998 as the editor of Car Craft magazine. Twenty years later, it's still true. Hot rodders love old station wagons, and surprisingly, many models can still be purchased cheaply. That's proven in this episode of Roadkill Garage as Freiburger scores a 1968 Chrysler Town and Country wagon for $1,800-and it has a 440ci big-block for power. It's soon dubbed the Gargantuwagon. Freiburger and Steve Dulcich show you how to give any old car a basic once-over before they also teach you how to give one a good thrashing without really hurting much. Soon it becomes clear that Dulcich's 1967 Pontiac Bonneville wagon from Episode 11 needs to come play along-and if two full-size American land barges are good, then three are better as Lucky Costa from the HOT ROD Garage show jumps in with his 1966 Plymouth Fury wagon loaded with 512ci of big-block power.

Man, what a job you guys have, just awesome! Brought me back to being in my father's '73 Country Squire (blue w/ wood-grain panels) sitting in the rear looking back on our drive to Myrtle Beach in the mid 1970s. I love this generation of wagon, damn I want one.

I have a 1967 Pontiac Catalina four door sedan. I tell my friends that the reason there are so few of the wagons and four doors left is because they were the cars of choice to wreck on CHiPs.
I can't imagine how many old cars were wrecked on those old shows each week
Most guys who have something to do with classic dailys still have the opinion that the only things worth something are the coups with 2 doors, and nothing else. I personally dont get it, there are some pretty nice 4 door hardtops and wagons out there

I actually have grown to like Steve D, hes a blast. Him amd Friedburger are like an old married couple. They are great together.
Big American station wagons are getting very popular, again. Save all those big old station wagons.
They both need new heavier shocks and sway bars, front and back.

One of the rules of thumb that I was that whenever you change the points/rotor, always change the condenser as well.

Im in Arkansas I've got a 66 AMC American mid size waggy tons of patina, very little rust, a bashed rear quarter panel, Knocking 232, good glass, all doors shut, I should get out there on it but im rebuilding a landcruiser.
Find a '69 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser with a 455. That would be the 'holy grail' for monster wagons, IMHO.

Hmmm..... Dulcich's method for soldering that ring to the air cleaner is the exact one I use for soldering terminals to a wire harness 🤔😆

Now that was fun... My dad had bought a brand new 1970 Chevy Kingswood Estate 350 wagon, I regularly took it out and "blew the carbon" out of the cylinders... my first car was a 1965 Pontiac Catalina 2 door coupe 389, I had a blast with that boat!

Chevrolet called it the " Super Stationwagon" clear back in 1973.

Now that's awesome! When i was im Cali in 06, i spotted a project Town m Country in Oakland, and a mint version in LA.

Loved this episode. Think how good Dulcich's driving would be if he used both hands!! Love that guy and the chemistry between him and Freiburger is so good. Lucky has the biggest monster though, sounds brutal. How I wish we had cars like this in the UK. Our best bet would have to be a big Volvo estate and thats nothing like these great wagons (estate's!)
My father always drove Chrysler in the 1960s and 70! Who cared about gas miles then! I wish I could find one now at a reasonable price
