In this personalized review I talk about the Garmin Fenix 5X and why it's now my new Daily Driver. I've used a lot of fitness devices over the years to track my movement, exercise and workouts and over time they have gotten more and more advanced and become extremely sophisticated in terms of how they collect your activity data. Back in the day they only really counted your steps with not even a screen built into them as you had to sync to your smartphone to see the actual data. Now these fitness / Smart Watches are like little mini smart phone on your wrist collecting your activity in a plethora of ways and communicating that data instantly on their own built in screens.

Still rockin' my fenix3 HR, gonna be five years soon.
Not one scratch on the sapphire glass or bezel and I've banged it a hundred times.
Love it.
When it becomes obsolete, as all electronics eventually do, I'll get the latest flavor.
Still holds battery for about two weeks, even doing 30+ minute outside exercises with GPS at least 5 times a week too.

How much is the fair price for this model now?
Not sure? Maybe a couple hundred dollars if in good condition?
Do you mean that Garmin is calculating it from your hart rate ?
I mailed with the tech within Garmin a year a go and they told me that they don’t do that
Yes if my activity goes up during the day specifically my heart rate for a period of time I will see a definite calorie credit increase even if there is not a lot of step based activity going on. This is a personal observation.
They do it - but it also depends on the software and model.
I notice the difference on calories burned if I use the HR on the watch vs chest band.
The band is more accurate compared to the built in watch and if I cycle the same route, I usually get higher calories burned with the chest monitor vs the wrist monitor.
The most I notice that during weight training - same weights, same amount of time - but once is just 'simple' pickup and put down with relative normal/low heart rate.
The other time I go for super sets, with higher HR - and guess what, occasionally I double my calories burned from the day before.
Is a 5x still worth a purchase today??
Guess it depends on the price, still probably a good product.
I've never seen a 5X with a divers bezel. One that has the numbered bezel. Whats up with that?

No amoled screen for that kind of money ? Ouch
Those types of screens us a lot of energy and can sometimes be hard to view in bright sunlight. So trade-offs with each.

@@anthonyalbanese9023 loads of Watch faves on the garmin. Amoled destroys the battery and definitely not needed for the market garmin are going for
It's a tool watch - not a toy.
Considering that I use my watch 24/7 with daily tracking between 30min to 2hrs and I only need to charge it every 2 weeks.
TLCD screen is good enough, and there is a ton of different watch faces available for Garmin with different colours - but despite that my screen is grey with a lot of information on it what I use for may daily tracking.
After a time playing around with the watch-faces you just settle for the one you need.
@@getfitover40 agreed 100%. I've owned all the other smartwatches with the amoled screens, and it drove me crazy to be outside working on something, working out, driving my bike, whatever and take a peek at my watch only to find I can't see the damn thing due to sunlight. This thing gets brighter the more sunlight it has on it. And I can beat the hell out of it without a mark left on it. (I have the exact same watch, orange band and all, lol. )
