I literally just left Dreamsonic in Iowa. Never heard about this dude before. I went for Animals as Leaders and Dream Theather and honestly this guys brought the most energy into the venuet! From Animals and Dream Theather, I knew what to expect, but this weird bald guy that I never head about? Godamn!!!! Powerful voice, engaging, extremely talented, everytime he was not singing he was making jokes and everyone was laughing. Never Heard about him before and now he got me! Devin is fire!!!
Edit 1: Wow I didn't expected to have so many nice people commenting on my post lol, thank yall. Devin is for sure one of the greatest artists ever. i feel so bad for only knowing him for like a month or two and he has been out there for almost 30 years. I feel like I unlocked a whole new section of youtube with so many interviews and reacts of Devin's music. He is so talented and a true performer. I just want to go back in time to go again to Dreamsonic with the knowledge I have now. I have been listening to his music nonstop for the past couple months. I feel like he is unrecognizable now, he's voice got so much better over the years and he sounds so much better live than in studio (in my opinion). I have showed him to many of my friends and they also feel in love with his music. He deserves so much more recognition for his work. I feel like he is two different people in and out the stage. He looks like a total badass on stage, but when he is out he looks just like another random dude, I think that's so much funny. Watch his last interview with Petrucci and Tosin, he looks just like a random dude when not playing or talking. Funny thing is that if you try to find there's not even ONE person in this planet that has a cover of any of his music that can perform like him. He is that good. Dude is a total beast.

He's a unique talent for sure! Everything from brutal technical metal in Strapping Young Lad (check out Alien and The New Black) and Physicist, The Devin Townsend Project (Deconstruction and Addicted are my go to), Ziltoid the Omniscient and Z2 if you want some wacky alien invasion metal lol, to feel-good vibes on some of the more recent stuff like Lightwork, Ki...there is tons of Devin stuff to check out! But if you dig AAL and DT then check some of the albums I listed. This tune being one of my favorites ua-cam.com/video/xXfnr0pxQQI/v-deo.html

True story. Used to be a club near me that was run by a real sleezeball. Every band hates the guy. Well sometime in the mid-90’s strapping young lad played there and Devin heard about him and didn’t like him much either. Devin spent the whole set ripping the guy apart between songs. It was ruthless but the whole club LOVED it. To all the locals it was the most legendary show at the club

I greatly respect him doing exactly what he wants to do without chasing trends or even what his older core audience wants but I just don’t personally care for what he’s been doing the last 10 or so years but I’ll always give it a chance hoping I’ll be into it because you never know what he’ll come out with next.
I do have a question though. Was there any stage volume for the guitars? I know he goes direct with a fractal but I’ve found when you’re near the front you don’t get much PA so the drums dominate and everything else sounds weirdly removed and distant. It seems like that is happening here but phone audio can do weird stuff.

I love Devin, and just saw him for the second time live in Arizona. First time I saw him it was just an acoustic show in 2019 but I was already in love with his work. Finally I had the opportunity to see him play a more 'complete' show. Devin was perfect as usual. A couple of things though:
How you managed to record the full show? In Arizona, the staff was a pain in the ass asking everybody not record anything at all (photo only allowed) and they were pulling people out for that. I was able to record very short clips of Devin playing but I wanted to have at least a little bit more footage of Deadhead.
I was at the same position as you were but on the left side, and I find the quality of your video quite nice. Did you record it with your phone or was it a GoPro or something else? Could you share what you used?
    Great video!

Every venue is different I suppose. Sometimes it is the artist who is strict, but this tour at least it seems certain venues were tougher than others. The Fox is a really historic venue in Atlanta, and they don’t have too many rock shows. Their crew was likely more laid back due to not being exposed to that type of show too often. I was using an iPhone 14 Pro Max. I was surprised at how good the quality came out. I think it helped that I wasn’t directly in front of any monitors and that I was on the opposite side of the bass.

@@j.clayharmon7268 it looks great! At first I thought that was a video camera or something haha. I may need to upgrade a little, I have the iPhone 13 mini and the quality is ok but I'm thinking of getting the 14 Pro to bump up a little the quality of the video. Plus I travel quite often and I found myself in need of the other lens the Pro models have.
      Thanks for the reply! Cheers!

Such an amazing performance I love Devin. I just wish the bassist player didn’t look like he is just wanting to finish so they can pay him and go home lol

It’s James Leach from Sikth, he always plays like that. But my god you wanna hear him he’s just ungodly at the technical parts. That breakdown in By Your Command is just insane.

Greatest live guitar performance is Dazed and Confused 1973 Madison Square Garden.
    Cannot be replicated.
Very very limited effects, too. Volume, wah and tone bender.
Just from the mind and soul to the fingertips. He levitates towards the end lol

To whoever filmed this, you did a fantastic job but, for the love of god, stand up and get the camera above the dude in front of you. You did a great job shooting around him but if you would of stood up and got the camera higher, this would have been epic.
