True story. Used to be a club near me that was run by a real sleezeball. Every band hates the guy. Well sometime in the mid-90’s strapping young lad played there and Devin heard about him and didn’t like him much either. Devin spent the whole set ripping the guy apart between songs. It was ruthless but the whole club LOVED it. To all the locals it was the most legendary show at the club
I've seen the name Devin Townsend all over UA-cam since I listen to a lot of rock/metal music, as well as the virtuosos. I thought he was just another new thing and I put it off... now I'm kicking myself. 'Kingdom' has completely opened my eyes; about to spend the next few days down this rabbit hole.
My friend got us tickets for the DreamSonic show at Madison Square Garden’s The Theater in NYC and Devin’s energy and talent was through the roof. I enjoyed all 3 bands immensely. I wish I could go back to that night on June 28, 2023. Truly an avalanche of talent!

He started as the singer for Steve Vai on his Sex & Religion album. He had an extreme metal band called Strapping Young Lad for many years. His solo career (including Devin Townsend Band and Devin Townsend Project) has been amazing and eclectic. He has a side project called Casualties of Cool as well. His career is a long rabbit hole of amazing music to discover.
Look into sections of each of his solo albums. Each album is an entirely different vibe. He does everything from atmospheric, folk-y, metal, country. If you don't vibe with one album, there's sure to be another out there that might tickle your fancy a bit better

Saw them at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, FL on June 21st. Kick ass show. First time seeing Devin Townsend. I was mainly going to see Animals as Leaders as I only saw them once before about 10 years ago when they played with Between the Buried and Me. It was raining so I got to the venue 45 minutes late and I saw the second to last song of AAL, and was surprised as I expected them to go on second so I was kind of pissed. Never heard of Devin Townsend before so I was pleasantly surprised. Dream Theatre was good as expected but I saw them back in March so no big deal.
Attended Dreamsonic in Cedar Park (Austin). I’m 63 and never heard of DTP either. This guy is phenomenal! Listen to him all the time now, what a talented singer songwriter. And as much as I love DT, when they all came out at the end and sang a DT song Devy overshadowed James LaBrie. I’ve seen DT 5 years in a row and I think this is the worst James sounded.
Thanks! Devin was a blast as always! I used an iPhone 14 Pro Max using 4K 60 fps. I was very surprised with the audio for the most part, especially being 3rd row in the pit. My previous phone was an iPhone 7, and it would've sounded distorted that close for sure.

I do have a question though. Was there any stage volume for the guitars? I know he goes direct with a fractal but I’ve found when you’re near the front you don’t get much PA so the drums dominate and everything else sounds weirdly removed and distant. It seems like that is happening here but phone audio can do weird stuff.

Could you share what you used? Great video!
Every venue is different I suppose. Sometimes it is the artist who is strict, but this tour at least it seems certain venues were tougher than others. The Fox is a really historic venue in Atlanta, and they don’t have too many rock shows. Their crew was likely more laid back due to not being exposed to that type of show too often.
