    Just finished up changing my headlights...took 40 minutes. Just knowing how many fasteners made all the difference in the world. Again, thanks!

    Thanks for sharing. You've saved me a $bunch! On a 2006 Scion XA you don't need to remove the whole wheel protective cover, by simply looking at your video I was able to locate the nut and unscrew it. Thanks again, great work!

    I just changed both headlight assemblies on my Xa. Thank you. The Deca models are not an exact fit with the Xa headlight bulbs and the retaining clips don’t squeeze in from both sides like the originals. I forgot about using the original rubber covers so struggled with the new covers. Passenger side I used the old boot. Tomorrow, if motivated, I’ll swap the driver side. Then I need to align the driver’s side headlight because it is pointing down too much.

    Thanks for making this. I just bought headlights for my XA and this will help big time. Looks easy once you hipped me to the different fastener locations. Again...nice vid!

    Thank you for posting this video! Thanks to you, I was able to change both headlights in under an hour, and probably saved a ton of money to boot. Thanks again!

    Thanks for posting, about an hour labor. Two things I wanted to add: Buy some of the 8 mm body clips, bumper and grill clips are almost 20 years old and can break. Second, put some blue painters tape on the edges of the bumper mounting tap to protect the fender, as I managed to scratch both sides during the R&R. Body clips cost about six bucks for a box of a hundred on eBay.

    I like this video i have an 05 xa and looking to do the same. One critique would be to show the entire installation. For example videoing as you screwed everything in. Great video!

    Just a random note - I remember trying to replace the main bulb without unbolting the entire headlight assembly (on the driver side, by the battery) was a pain in the rear! Owning a Honda previously I'd figured it be a simple twist and pull. Those retaining clips are work of the devil! Haha

    Nice tutorial. A few things I would have liked to find out.
    1.) Would have been great to know if that 4th screw on the bottom of the headlight assembly..... for the driver's side the lower-right that forced you to remove the bumper COVER ( not the bumper....that's the metal underneath)....would have been good to know if not using this lower-right bolt makes any difference to stability. Just in case you gotta do it again, like maybe stone damage or whatever, would be NICE to remove ONLY the 3 other screws that are accessable. Bumper COVER would then remain in-place.
    2.) For the rubber seal not to fit well, I presume this is a Chinese made aftermarktet part. Nothing wrong with that, just asking if it was a Toyota part or not.
    3.) Once you are done, you also have 2 screws on the backside of the housing that allow "Aiming" the headlights. Good to check. There is a procedure in the workshop manual how you can aim against a wall for this.

    • @UtopiaStudios
      @UtopiaStudios  5 років тому

      If that 4th screw is there, there's probably a reason. You can certainly leave it off, at your own risk. Re: the seal, can't recall exactly, probably aftermarket. Yes, always good to aim your headlights after replacing, if needed.

      I'm in the process of doing it, looked at it and the 4th screw, I'd tried to reach underneath to see if it could be remove, was hoping to do it without removing the bumper. Just got back from the junk yard with the assembly. Mine is Model XD.

    • @TheWilferch
      @TheWilferch 2 роки тому

      @@huynguyen5706 ....for the xA.....I was able to easily remove the front grille opening, and also the screw for the bumper cover that you access by pushing back a portion of the front wheel housing plastic near the lower/front of the front wheel housing near the bumper.... screw goes straight up. Once removed on both sides...and with the grill removed ( perhaps a few other screws that will be visible).....you THEN can FOLD down the bumper-cover "ever-so-slightly"....to gain access to the 4th screw. Hint....for all this I'm viewing the exploded-view drawing from the workshop manual...and for the xD, I suggest doing the same for a one-time cost....as stuff like this will always come up. xA and xD may be different in this area. I purchased my xA manual as a download. Well worth it.

    I just bought replacement headlights for my Scion xA and it turns out the parking light bulb sockets in the new headlamp assemblies are larger than the originals. On top of that, the originals were slim with 2 locking tabs on the sockets (same as side marker lights), whereas the new replacements are about 1.5cm holes with 4 locking tabs, evenly spaced, around the circumference. Has anyone else encountered this problem, and how did you manage to locate a bulb socket that fits the larger size hole?
    Also, in your video you gave up too easily on the rubber weather covers for the headlight bulbs. All you have to do is run your fingers down the inside and pull the rubber back a little to stretch the hole so you can insert the wiring connector.

    • @petebrooks6539
      @petebrooks6539 3 роки тому

      I had the same problem with mine. The socket you need is the side marker socket and pigtail, as the pigtail for the parking light doesn't work with the side marker socket. Tried a number of different things, then I just used 3M Weather Strip Adhesive to glue the socket to the back of the housing with a new bulb in it. If the bulb needs to be replaced, just twist and pull it out and re-glue it afterward.

    Thanks for the video, but couldn't you have simply restored the headlight with a 3m kit for about $20 instead of spending $100+ on new headlights? I would have gone with the Black Housings if i were to buy new headlights but thanks for a really good informative video :)

    • @UtopiaStudios
      @UtopiaStudios  7 років тому +1

      Indeed you could do that but they wouldn't look as good and you'd have to retreat them every so often since that process doesn't last. Still, a good option if you're on a tighter budget!

      I’ve used the top rated Sylvania restore kits on my 2005 Scion and on my mother’s 2005 Camry. The headlights on both vehicles have returned to there nasty yellow color after six months or so. I’ll be ordering new headlight assemblies in a couple weeks.
      Thx for the video.

    If the bulb isn't dead then just use mothers mag aluminum polish, a power drill, & a polishing wheel? 10 minutes on each headlight, you're done.
