Thank you Uju. Even before age 16, I had taken a mirror and looked down there. I knew all my parts intimately. My aunty who is a biology teacher gave me a pamphlet on menstruation and what happens in a girls body when she hits puberty with pictures of what a vagina looks like and where the cervix versus the urethra were. Imagine this curious teenager exploring this and her father is watching. Hell no. Dude is off his rocker. I don’t know how his wife or daughters can ever ever trust him. Please let’s not even bring culture into this.
1. Stripping your teenagers naked for any form of punishment = sexual abuse
2. Spreading your child’s legs and inserting anything into their private area by force is sexual assault
3. Spreading your child’s legs and looking or inserting anything to “check for virginity” is sexual assault
And I cannot believe that now we are so advance now in ignorance that I have to now add
4. Putting CCTV camera is your daughter’s room to watch her in varying states of nakedness is sexual abuse

This is wholly INAPPROPRIATE behaviour!!. At 16, this girl's father is very wrong to put a CCTV camera in her private space where she will be changing, will be naked etc. I can't bear to think about this. He's highly lucky that this happened in Nigeria and not "in the abroad." Otherwise, he would find himself in trouble with the law!! WHAT was he thinking?? Very suspicious that he even failed to discuss this with his wife beforehand. I'm absolutely disgusted!!! 😮
God bless you Mariam....this so called 'good intention' parenting has actually resulted in children being bullied and victimised outside! I remember my mum got angry with me one day (as an adult o) saying i always ask questions anytime she tells me to do anything...and I'm like, it's what i do outside too! I need to know! And it's NOT out of disrespect at all. My father taught me so, knowing i would need to protect myself from outsiders with negative intentions. And that's why it's usually the 'SU', children from 'religious' homes that in many occasions get bullied because they've been told to be quiet and submissive as a 'child of God', but we need to balance it. God help us all.
Sorry but this needs to be investigated. If it was just about her being safe then his wife would know. He snuck around to do it so he can watch it privately. I’m sorry there’s just no excuse on earth for a parent to install secret cameras in the private spaces of their teenage children. This needs to be investigated.
The father should have also implanted a camera inside her skin, to see what she does outside the house. what a silly man!!!

Camera footage can be used to blackmail anyone. Even amongst married couples, if they split up, the footage can be used to humiliate the other partner

It's wrong on all counts biko! Not okay at all, it's an invasion of her privacy. I used to take permission from my daughter at 4 years to clean her private parts. It's just respectful.
The father needs to apologize to his daughter and take out the camera.

If the man doesn’t give a reasonable explanation why he put a cctv in his daughters than he should be suspected, he if he noticed an unusual behavior he should discussed it with the wife before taking action, if not I would also put a secret cctv to monitor the man.

Parents should know their boundaries with their children. Siblings of different genders should be separated from the same room at the age of seven. A father should not enter their female kids room with out saying Salam, ( peace be on to you) and if they don't respond you don't go in.

In real sense, mounting a camera in his daughter's room is bad; but then, there might be something the father is suspecting that he needed to confirm or have a first hand evidence on. Maybe he is suspecting that his daughter is abusing drugs or any other dangerous habit....

As a man I don’t agree it’s bad looking at all the BS going on in the world today. Maybe he might inform his wife or not I don’t agree that is wrong. If you said it’s wrong you need to give me your parameters of measurement that makes you conclude it wrong.
People have cameras all the time in their houses and rooms. It depends how you used it. Matter of fact I have camera in my son room to make sure he is okay and playing safe in his room especially when he is sleeping. Instead of me going to check on him during the night I look at the camera. However But if I have to change him in his room disconnect the camera because I don’t want him naked in the camera. I do believe he should have communicated with his wife. At certain age the child needs to be aware if there is camera in their surroundings. I will say no rooms at certain age. My son is a toddler, for now it’s okay to check on him. The father needs to take the camera out and put it some place where it’s not directly into her room. Maybe the door or hallway.

Everything is wrong with it. She is 16 and her room is a private place. CCTV in the house in the living room is fine not in his daughter's room. She is a lady not a child.
