    True story: I had the musical version of War of the Worlds. But. I only had the first half. Didn't know there even WAS a second half, for a very very long time. So I grew up thinking the Martians won, until like, my last year of high school.

      I watched Alien and The Thing at 5 years old. To make it even more brutal, they were both in Russian. I'm gonna re-enact those to my kids with sock puppets, and read them this instead.

    I love this story and even the Tom Cruise movie to a certain extent! As two characters really ruined it for me, and many other's, those two children especially the teenaged boy, as there was just too many things wrong and had some plot holes and bad writing, same with the girl but it's still a some what good movie.

    • @Michael_Breiter
      @Michael_Breiter Рік тому +5

      Yeah, the kids in that movie were utter trash. Neither appreciated what their father did for them, and didn't even blink when he walked away after they were brought to their mother.
      Personally, I kinda wished the teenager didn't make it. His bullheaded crap was rewarded, making his father look stupid and cowardly.
      It feels like the moral of the movie was 'if you were a loser before, risking your life for your kids won't change that at all.'

    • @MrRugbyloosehead
      @MrRugbyloosehead Рік тому

      @@Michael_Breiter AGREED! Also I had a huge problem with how the boy some how made it to the Grandparents? After seeing that group of soldiers get totally blown away? Like did he magically fly away? Also that little girls screeching put my teeth on edge every time she did it! The last time I watched it I swore that it was the last time ever!

    • @282XVL
      @282XVL Рік тому +3

      They need to make a proper movie, 100% authentic to the original book. Victorian weapons and tactics against high tech but vulnerable tripods would be far more interesting than modern weapons vs hurrrrrr invincible shield bubble. The shields are an ass stupid deus ex machina because frankly slow, skinny tripods with short range beam weapons aren’t threatening at all against modern weapons without the shield cheating.
      But vs horse drawn artillery and bolt action Enfield rifles? A very different matter indeed.

    • @MrRugbyloosehead
      @MrRugbyloosehead Рік тому +1

      @@282XVL Agreed! If ever there needed to be a remake? It’s this one,as long as the right person gets behind it, like a Christopher Nolan or Neill Blomkamp? Or even David Fincher! I think either of those would do an excellent job of it,not whether it’s on any studio’s upcoming project remains to be seen?

    Love your work and this author. Loved the book. However... it has always irritated me his ignorance of the Tasmanian "war of extermination". Anyone interested in the story of the colony of Tasmania's indigenous peoples should acquaint themselves with Keith Windschuttle's "Fabrication of Aboriginal History: Volume 1".
