Phantom is not actually an opera. It's a Musical Theatre piece that happens to take place inside of an opera house. A real opera for example would be Madame Butterfly.
For her last question, she actually honored her statement. I'm obsessed with her concert recordings, and she even reads a love letter her grandparents wrote during the war. And she does sing a lot of 40s music, it's so beautiful. Love how dedicated and loving she was in honoring her grandparents.
Especially since Sierra said she wants to play Lucy in "Jekyll & Hyde", I think her and Ramin should work together again with Ramin playing Jekyll/Hyde. Another revival, I think so!
Christine Daae is an opera singer in the book. Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote the show as a Musical Theatre piece. Opera and Musical Theatre are actually very different. Sierra is an incredible singer but she was never trained in opera. Here are some real opera singers. Renee Fleming, Natalie Dessay, Anna Netrebko and Sumi Jo. If you listen to them sing and compare to Sierra. You can hear how different their vocal technique is.

Well, Sarah has actually performed in full operas on the theatrical stage, no microphone, at numerous venues. She, by technicality, an opera singer. She does call herself a classical-crossover singer, but she when in operatic & classical performances she considers herself an opera singer.
Sierra is going to returning to the West End for a limited engagement in Les Miserables once again. This time she will be playing FANTINE!!! Afterwards, she comes back to Broadway in the new musical revue Prince of Broadway, which pays tribute to Harold Prince!
I think Sierra should publish an autobiography when she becomes an international superstar....because somedays I really wonder what she was like and what she looked like as a child!

@MsOctoberstorm She's wasn't naked in the show. She was wearing a bra and undergarments. They blended into her skin tone. On the suggestion box to the right there's a video called TLM-Backstage The Little Mermaid and Sierra Boggess. Towards the end of the video she's in a hallway talking to the camera. You can see the fabric on her shoulders. That's what she meant about it remaining afamily show.

@operagirl121 lol Why would she be? One of the best parts of the last production I was in was our sound checks. We all did a huge array of songs (I specifically remember doing Finian's Rainbow, Carrie, and some Sondheim -- another cast member alternated between Broadway and classic rock) and some even imitated voices. And sometimes if a song was well-liked, we'd all finish singing it in the dressing room. It's all about getting your energy up. Legit warm-ups come a bit later before places. :)
I swear shes me in a few years. ha I ice skated for 10 years and love broadway! Plus she answered the questions the same way i would, like to play lucy! I would love that! but thats awesome!
If you love Sierra, get your tickets now! Who knows when she'll return to the role of Christine. If she ever does at that. As far as I'm concerned, this was her best role so far. Both acting and vocal-wise.

Big News! If you live in New York or taking a trip there in Mid til late January. You are in for a real treat. Sierra is going to repise the role of Christine on Broadway! She'll be there performing for a limited engagment she can participate in the show's 25th Anniversary. :)

And in technical terms she's not because she hasn't actually performed in an opera show nor did she graduate with a degree in it from college. (Kristin Chenoweth & Kelli O'Hara did) She has a Bachelor degree in Musical Theatre. However you can't deny she's a versitle singer. :)
To all who like this comment, I'm not trying to be snarky and I think Ms. Boggess has a beautiful and well-trained broadway voice. Very versatile! But the singing you hear in Phantom (even though opera is part of the title) is not operatic. Check out some singers like Renee Fleming or Placido Domingo to hear operatic training in action. It is glorious!! Not better than Broadway, just glorious in it's own way.

The only four actressesI know of who have played Christine but also have a backround in Opera are Rebecca Caine, Claire Lyon, Lisa Vroman and Anna O'Byrne. They all have a Masters degree in Opera & Classical Music. Sierra has a Bachelor degree in Fine Arts. Musical Theatre only.
