People have probably already mentioned: this was the #1 Country Song of the Year 1971. Folks, this song is a massive triumph of songwriting. Lyrics like these, with this melody, don't exactly grow on trees. Hats off to Freddie. He sang it, AND wrote it:)
I love this song so much. My brother, Jimmy Don, danced with me to this not long before he passed away with brain tumor. He was only 39. Thanks for sharing this on youtube makeminecountry2. :)
Freddie Hart not only are you one beautiful singer, but you outdid Webb Pierce for a flamboyant outfit. This is so easy to listen to that Alabama man sing. A great star, & shinning like a star too. Absolutely a fantastic video.
"Every time I look you over.... so real to life it seems.... upon your pretty shoulders.... there's a pair of angel wings..." Lord, I wish my man would talk to me like that! They just don't write 'em like that anymore! Thanks for this.
Mr. Freddie Hart himself is sitting right next to me now watching this, along with my grandfather Hugh X. Lewis. Mr. Hart never knew a site like UA-cam existed until now. but he is very blessed to hear some of your comments.
This is "our song", my girl friend, now my wife of almost 43 years, used to dance to this at the Jockey Club, in Lexington, KY, when we were dating. Brings back a lot of great memories, thanks for posting.
I met Freddy Hart years ago. I was just a draftsman for the highway dept. back then yet seemed to take an interest in me...my goals and aspirations. When we parted he said, " You will bring joy and laughter in the hearts of people". I went on to have a 20 year career in radio as a DJ and still hear from my fans today. Funny how a 5 minute conversation with a gifted individual can have such an impact.
I remember hearing that the session wasn't going well and was called and the producer left all pissed off. With time still left on the clock, Freddie, the musicians and engineers pumped this song out.
You just brought some tears to my eyes. My mama and daddy used to listen to this song too on the 8 track on weekend rides in a 69 Ford Fairlane. Daddy is gone on home with the Lord now and mama is 70. We will always have our memories that death can't rob us of.
man what a singer that can bout them out,,,I went to see him one time, and he sang hank williams guitar, that song tore the hearts right out of your chest
Woody Woodward - I had the opportunity to visit with Freddy Hart the day before he released Easy Lovin, his biggest hit. He was the sweetest, most considerate guy that one could meet! The next day I played his record on the air. It became an instant hit!
this was one of my mom's favorite songs. Thank God she made me listen to country music back then it sure has made me appreciate all music . My kids listen to it all too.
I can still see myself dancing to that and other old Country songs about 30 years ago. I was very much into hard rock at the time, but I enjoyed all types of music. Still do. But I'd go bar hoppin' with my Dad and he always went to joints that played this kinda stuff. Those were some good times, man. I had no idea how good they were.
Joined the ARMY at 14???WOW This is my favorite ng since age 15 .... i went to work at a cafe washing dishes where my mom Josie Vincent was cook ... played it on juke box all time ... great memories ... miss you mom :)

Do I ever love this song. He should have made many many more like this. He never made it big time but I sure liked him. The writer must have been thinking of me and my Norman.
I SURE DO LOVE THE OLDER VERSIONS OF COUNTRY MUSIC,THAT IS TRUE COUNTRY MUSIC AND REALLY WORTH LISTENING TO.THE WORDS ARE SUCH AS YOU CAN UNDERSTAND THEM,AND REALLY FEEL THEM IN YOUR HEART AND SOUL.

An ethereal, twinkling star kind of song that makes me wonder,
who inspired words strung so beautifully together by a man?
