usually these collapses involve old, uncharted mines which wasn’t on any records or was simply lost to time, so oftentimes not even the authorities knew of their existence until they actually collapse, many decades later
@@irvalfirestar6265 A quarry is located on Gordon Moore Park’s west side. Bluff City Minerals has been mining under that section of Alton for many years.
@@Super_Nova739Well thats not always the case with mines. In Kentucky, a lot of reasons for sinkholes are for the caves. The National Corvette Museum sinkhole happened because of the Collapsing bedrock roof above a prehistoric cave resulted in the catastrophic failure of the floor of the museum. Sinkholes can result from seasonal changes in the groundwater table, freeze and thaw of the ground, and extremes in precipitation (drought vs heavy rain). You can tell by the dirt. But this was from a Mine.

What were they mining for that caused this collapse to begin with? It's not the first time something like this happened. Just years before the pandemic started, a different sinkhole formed in Florida when a man was sleeping in his house, and he fell into it along with the house he's resided in.
The question is WHY was the quarry that was mining allowed to mine under these playing fields?
So they could make money

@@irvalfirestar6265which is dumb because we have the technology to find mines before building anything and save everyone the trouble.

That's there new POOL facilities
when oil and mineral companies do horizontal drilling under a person's land, can that eventually cause sinkholes?
Lucky no one was there. The hole also swallowed up the light pole.
Dam gofer 😮
Lol. That's a Texas sized gofer😂
Question, where did the light pole and trashcan go
Wow! Good thing there was nobody on the field when that happened
That's scarey thank God no one was there
So who builds on a mine? 🙄
Old mines that nobody knew about, even though we have the tech to find them before building.

This is just outside of St Louis, MO. I live here. Much of St Louis is built on top of old mines. 😮
many people clearly have zero knowledge of cave systems.

It's amazing how a lot of times these things happen right where people put holes in the ground
They can play games. Around it
Guess bring more dirt to plug it back up as new and bring more grass
Actually?
Deep hole in one!!!
They're going to keep getting bigger
Music
...really
@alanschwartz The music doesn't seem to go well with this video. Something more suitable might have added to the suspense
