    The way Walton played the 88 hand, using a back raise 4-bet shove after just calling the initial raise, it was a move that displayed extreme strength (the fact he did it with 88 almost made it like a bluff). It probably would have worked against anything less than KK given the stack depths and ICM implications, he was just unfortunate Weinman had one of the only two hands that could call him (especially 3 handed where it’s far more unlikely and when 3-bets are a lot lighter). It’s actually not as bad a move or a punt as people think.

    That All in from Walton with 88 🤦 how tf did he even come that far?

    • @joemarks3719
      @joemarks3719 Рік тому +8

      Because he ran into a player at the top of his range.
      He is likely getting folds from AKs, AKo, AQs, KQs, and all pairs 10-10, 9-9. 8-8, and 7-7, all of these in Weinman's 3 bet range, and he's only getting called by JJ , QQ, KK and AA. Many more combo's that fold there than call.
      Throughout this tournament he got better hands to fold many times.
      When you play as aggressive as he does, it's inevitable you get in a spot like this.
      But his style of play is what got him to the final table, and to 3rd place.
      He never had any plans of slowing down, he doesn't play TAG ever, he is always going to be the most aggressive player at the table.

    • @kevinscottbailey8335

      @@joemarks3719 It was a terrible play, and not just because of the result. He risked 200m to win 40m or so. He could've set-mined for 21m, and then maybe got creative with his un-setted 88, and THEN possibly got AA to fold. Shoving pre is just absolutely awful in that spot. Makes ZERO sense.

    • @Der_Fabi
      @Der_Fabi Рік тому

      @@joemarks3719 You can expect BB calling range to be a bit wider... there is no way Weinman 3 bet folds AK or TT after this action. Even 99, AQ I expect to call as they are supposed to. The only value hands that I see folding are the AJo, KQs, KJs type hands. The important fold equity comes from BB's bluffs such as A5o, J9s, 96s type hands. Depends on how many of them Weinman 3 bets the shove with 88 is more or less profitable. For sure not GTO though.

      They definitely chopped with variance you would be foolish not to they all got 7 million each and the winner got a million more plus a bracelet.

    I bet Weinman to win with QJ, not quite lol. Pretty unimpressive play from Jones though, don't see many reasons to go all in with J8 off suit after Weinman had shown strenght twice already.

    Jones was in a tough spot. With the J 8 if you happen to be the big stack it's an easy fold. The shorter stack just isn't drilling into you without the Jack. But when you're the shorter stack you think he's trying to bully with the big stack and are almost forced to shove.

  • @yuszuka

    I felt for a long time that jones tactic is just going to call on that turn card and hope for something cheeky big or combination for river and then raise all in. Would have changed this turn imo.
    Wp anyway Weinman.

  • @kevinscottbailey8335
    @kevinscottbailey8335 Рік тому +3

    That shove by Walton makes less sense every time I watch it. Can someone explain to me the logic of shoving there as the effective stack? He's only getting called by every combination of AA and KK. He's risking 203m to win 41.5m, which just makes ZERO sense to me. He was only on the hook to lose 5m if he folds, and could've set-mined for 21m instead with a call-fold strategy. I just don't understand, like at ALL.

      To me that proved they had an agreed upon chop.
      Especially seeing Waltons reaction when he knew he was all but drawing dead.

    Watched a compilation video of Jamie Gold's run back in '06. Similar top prize, but the top 12 were all $1M or better payouts. 12th this year? $535K. But then again, the payouts were for the top 10% back then, versus 15% this year, so had to spread the wealth more.
