They did this is the original Romero version too. Throughout the movie, well the first half anyway, they would periodically cut to the news and the rising panic of its staff and guests. It showed very well, given the time it was made, how people can break down very quickly in the face of extinction. In fairness I actually think the original movie was in many ways much better overall. It also had the most famous piece of Zombie music in history, so famous even Shaun of the Dead even used it lol

Agreed. It's a crime that such shows focusing on the initial outbreak are almost nonexistent currently (even though it's been more than 80 years since the first zombie movie was made). I can only think of Fear The Walking Dead, Seoul Station and Dawn of the Dead. Pretty sure a lot of people would watch a show that focuses on the progression of the apocalypse (i.e. each episode focusing on a different group of people like in the WWZ Book)

The older adults past 40-50- 28 Weeks Later the most frightening zombie movie
Adults ages 29 to late 30s- We all got our first taste of modern zombies by 2004-05.
It's a generation thing but for some odd reason the 28 Days Later franchise is more popular. They played the fuck out of this Dawn Of The Dead throughout the late 2000s. This is what the World War Z movie SHOULD’VE been, unlike that Brad Pitt movie which was more of an action flick.
WWZ should’ve been more like a documentary centered around a doctor/journalist traveling the world & interviewing people giving their perspective on the zombie apocalypse like in the book.
I was entertained by it, but it would’ve been a 1000x better if they stayed more true to the novel.
This DOTD 2004 special report was more true to the WWZ novel.
Also, it’s pretty messed up to hear that Shanghai & Hong Kong got blasted off of the face of the Earth by nukes. Any survivors in those cities that were hiding out in facilities from zombie hordes didn’t even have a chance to escape those cities before they got vaporized. It reminds me of the scene from World War Z where the characters witness a nuke going off in some region of the world.

The original 1978 Dawn Of The Dead when they’re holed up in their upstairs apartment just as Roger dies and turns, Steven and Francine are watching a Civil Defense broadcast where it’s pretty obvious things have broken down, the set backdrop is askew the camera is weaving all over as if the cameraman just gave up and walked away and someone else grabbed it showed a government scientist Dr. Forest I think his name was arguing with both the host and random tv crew members and he says ‘Since no one has touched upon our nuclear option??…Why don’t we drop bombs on all the big cities?’ to which the host says he can’t be serious to which the doctor replies ‘I’m deadly serious’ the scene then cuts to Roger reanimating and Peter offscreen putting him down to which the Dr on tv yells ‘We’ve got to remain logical! Logical…We have to, there’s no choice we have to…or it’s the end’ according to the film there were a few more broadcasts over the next few days or weeks but that we don’t ever see before ceasing for a couple of days or something that’s mentioned before a roving biker gang breaches the barricades and let’s the zombies all back in the mall.
