I like how in the scenes we see of adult Finn is Distant Lands, he never had a permanent gf. Nothing wrong with dating obviously, but its good that he matured and wasn't just desperate to date someone like when he was younger.
Well we don’t know for sure. For all we know he may even have kids but yes I agree in all likelihood Finn never really got into a permanent relationship which isn’t a bad thing at all
I appreciated seeing that! As someone who doesn’t have much luck with dating and has been mainly single for 18 years, it’s nice seeing a character single and happy. I think that representation is important. You don’t need to have love to enjoy life and although it seems like you’ll never find someone just take it day by day. That’s really important! Dating isn’t easy for everyone! Especially the last human
Honestly, the ship doesn't make sense but it makes sense that Finn being a young and immature child about to go through puberty would probably be attracted to the only pretty, semi-humanoid woman in his life at the time.
even as a kid that’s what i assumed it was, like everyone around him including the other princesses was weird, scary, or a sentient animal/object and there are no other humans
Probably from the initial view of Finn being the plucky adventurer who saves the damsel in distress from the wizard king (edit: a very oversimplified explanation of some of the first season dynamic between Finn, Ice King and PB)
A lot of people don’t like this, but I’m really glad they kept Finn single by the end of the series. His journey throughout the series his him figuring out who he truly is, and that being happy with himself is more important than finding a love interest. Finn didn’t need a girlfriend to be happy. That being said if we ever get to see Finn’s life post season 10 but before Together Again, it’d be cool if he was dating Huntress Wizard
@@slothful2039 That clip is about PB recognizing that Finn has moved on from being a Kid and is well on his way to being her equal in maturity. This is actually one of the best pieces of evidence that a romance was still possible between them.
In hindsight I do like your joke, explaining adventure time to anyone is a very very insane task. The whole thing is a kind of you had to be there for it moment.
This one time in middle school some girl asked me about adventure time and as I got into the origins of jake I just fell on my knees cry-laughing. The words coming out of my mouth were *absurd* .
I appreciate the way the show evolved their relationship. It took time, and even though a lot of jokes were played off if it, it’s made (more or less) clear it s unhealthy. And I love how they showed how they stayed friends
My favourite ship with Finn is flame princess. I love how his actions had their consequences and how they showed the two of them going through their own journeys of growth and maturing before they became friends again. So realistic and holds much meaning when you go through a similar situation. Great video! Can’t wait for the next one 😌
I also loved how Finn evolved in general. He started as a young immature kid but still had a great heart to a mature, mild-mannered young man. Watching his evolution from 12 to 17 was awesome considering that a lot of the audience (like myself) were growing up alongside the main character.
Unfortunately, there are Adventure Time fans who sadly are WAY too obsessed in Finn not being able to get a GF, all cause they think "Adam Muto wanted to make Finn miserable", and like...people can be happy being single at times, Jesus.
It’s so realistic tho-how could you not love it? It’s so realistic that Finn doesn’t have a partner at the end. All he needs is his bro. I love this damn show and people like that need to get a grip.
I hate how people always make PB out to be a villain because she rejected Finn. Not only was she too old for Finn, she never showed romantic interest in him and the only reason she interfered in his relationship with FP was because she believed FP could be a danger, Finn just mistook her words as her being jealous and messing with his feelings. I'm not saying she was perfect, but that's usually people's go to out of all the other things. She's a pretty morally grey character but at the end of the day she really does care for her friends and citizens very much and does grow throughout the series.
Yeah, true. PB has done some really screwed up stuff. But she WAS NOT jealous of Finn and Flame Princess, she was scared for his safety, because FP is LITERAL FIRE. She didn't lead Finn on, which is a good thing. Like would people rather PB pretend to like Finn, and then break his heart at the end? She genuinely cared for Finn. Her and Finn's friendship is one of my all-time favorites from Adventure Time. This is coming from someone who, unfortunately, used to ship them as a child.
I see PB as being someone who wants to prevent disasters and keep people safe. She understand this sometimes requires a little sacrifice and doesn't seem to hold tightly to any particular moral code. Kind of a lawful neutral. She wants the best for people, but is willing to use questionable means to reach that end. That said, it makes perfect sense why she'd try to step in-between Finn and FP. Jake himself saw FP as a danger before Finn and FP even met. And he's wise but not smart. PB saw things a bit more analytically. The show was ultimately presented from Finn's point of view, so we were predisposed to see her misgivings as jealousy when, in fact, they weren't. She cares about her people and the world she lives on. She makes choices to keep those things safe. FP presented a danger to her people and her world, so she felt obligated to do something about it. That's how I see it, at least.
@@pamspray5254 I agree completely. Although, I'll admit, that one episode where FP and PB where like on a mission together or something, and PB was trying to hurt her or use her for scientific purposes or something like that, I was really upset. I thought by the time that episode aired (like season 5 I think) I thought PB would be a lot less mistrusting. Especially since FP wasn't even posing as a threat.
@CipherRage0909 @CipherRage0909 did we even watch the same show because whag did I just read 😭 PB never toyed with Finn's romantic feelings. She did what she thought was right and although it was wrong, the story makes her reasoning clear. And her feelings towards Marcy were complicated, since even before Obsidian, it was made clear that the two ended their previous relationship on a bad note. PB still cared for Marcy but their past made it hard for either of them to apologize or try to reconcile. It's only after PB helps Marcy get her stuffed animal back that they start hanging out again and becoming friendlier towards one another. Later when PB leaves the candy kingdom, thinking it's best for people, she reflects on her behavior and how it's negatively effected her citizens despite her thinking it had been for the best. At that time, Marcy finds her and they both help eachother in the Stakes mini series. They never started hanging out together out of nowhere, their relationship just slowly started to heal. And during this time, she never abandoned Finn. Sometimes people just drift apart because of different goals and where their lives are headed. Finn had his own goals that didn't involve PB. Even so, it's clear that they still care for another very much, just not romantically. PB is far from perfect, but she's also far from being the most toxic character.
During the 2000s/early 2010s it was a popular trope for a young boy to have a crush on a girl that was old for him. Eg. Teachers, dipper and wendy. A bunch more. I love the way they portray the multiple relationships a person has growing up. From puppy love to destructive love to a seemingly great relationship with the wizard girl.
Romance really brings out the absolute worst in Finn late in the show. Like in the episode where Flame Princess needs his help with saving her kingdom and he spends the entire time trying to hit on and impress her and ends up being completely useless. Or Too Old, when Lemongrab has become an obese tyrant, and instead of giving a shit about the horrible conditions of the lemon people like season 1 Finn would've, he spends the entire episode simping for Princess Bubblegum and it's just so damn off putting to see him with the wrong priorities. At the very least, his character made a massive comeback later, unlike Mordecai for the most part.
Yeah. Whenever relationships were in the forefront of the story, Finn was useless at best, and insufferable at worst. The best thing the show ever did for itself was can the romantic subplots with the huntress wizard episode.
@@jamiesadf5829 The episodes where he was dating someone aside from the breakup episode with Flame Princess were great though. I would hardly call Finn useless in those, he just seemed like a happier more complete person.
You can't really judge Finn too harshly in those episodes though because he was only a 13 year old child who had dead parents. He probably didn't develop proper social skills or learn how healthy relationships work.
Adventure Time and Avatar are on a higher level than pretty much every other “kid’s show”. Gravity Falls, Regular Show, and the original Teen Titans are also up there.
I really like how the show didn’t buckle under Finn feeling entitled to PB and then “earning” her in the end. Because too many shows do that-making the girl a prize the boy wins if he’s just persistent enough. I’m happy they matured into mutual friendship. Edited to add: Please ignore the bullshit discourse in the replies to my comment. I wish UA-cam would let me block people from continuing to reply because some of y’all need to go touch grass
@@pillowfullospiders3934 Finn still had feeling for PB he just locked them away in his vault this is shown when he opens it at one point late in the show. PB also has feelings for Finn this is shown when she is jealous of Flame Princess after she goes Nova, Jake pointed this out. These conflicts are never addressed, introducing conflict and failing to resolve it is poor writing.
@@The1Ryu That's not "poor writing", it's just reality. Conflict isn't always resolved, and even less so in the span of just a few years. Once Finn had stopped thinking of Princess Bubblegum as a love interest, they became much better friends, and they wouldn't really have any need for resolving the conflict of potential romance. Especially once PB and Marceline were together again.
Dude, I had such a soft spot for this ship. Not only because it was cute, but because, yeah, I had an unrequited crush on an older guy who I was great friends with ( I was 13, he was 17). I did eventually tell him and he was very sweet on turning me down. In his eyes, I was a little sister to him. And….I was kind of cool with it. Him saying it broke the infatuation trance I was in and made me realize his friendship was worth more than him liking me back. We unfortunately lost contact with each other after he graduated high school, but thanks to him, I never fell blindly for someone ever again 🥰😌🤜🤛
I really liked Flame Princess and Finn dynamic as a ship, and thought it was going to be continuous, since Finn was helping her be a better person, until that one day he tried to manipulate her to doing something bad, which really hurt Flame Princess, because he used her. And at the time, I really wanted them to get back to each other, because Finn only really did one big mistake. But then again Finn was just so dumb, naive, and didn’t understand why he was even in the wrong, so he just apologised without knowing why he’s sorry. Until when he grew up, and acknowledged why, and tried to make up with flame Princess, she was happy he understood it, but still didn’t want to get back with Finn. I never really grew up watching the other episodes of adventure time to meet Huntress girl x Finn, so Finn x Flame Princess is my favourite Finn ship
Yeah because for the record he couldn't figure out how to cope and instead was just making-out with everyone after losing his arm and relationship. The worse thing you can do is not realizing your mistake and just looking for more options to ease your pain? That's just running away, but I was glad he matured and even if he isn't with her it's better to not leave them in a sour note
I really hoped and even expected Flame Princess to forgive Finn since their relationship was great up until that moment. But kn the other hand, AT has all my respect for making Finn deal with the consequences of his actions. Its easy for a show to have characters forgive and teach kids that saying sorry will excuse your hurtful actions... instead, Finn learns the hard way that his actions lost him everything at once. I feel like Finn, and we as an audience, were in denial that it really ended that way, but it was just the right dose of reality.
I love how these two characters evolved together by the end of the series. Their platonic friendships really works here. Plus I love Finn with Huntress Wizard, they’re cute together.
Romantic relationships are actually a downgrade compared to platonic relationships. People are usually closer to their platonic best friend than they are to their romantic partner. Platonic love and relationships are a good thing, while romantic love and relationships are a bad thing. Romance has caused so a lot of problems in this world. Romantic relationships end more frequently than platonic ones. Romantic relationships have a whole set of problems that platonic one's don't. Like cheating, getting bored with a partner, losing interest and so on. Women are significantly less likely to be romantically attracted to their male friends. There's a reason why most women won't date any of their male friends (especially their male best friends.) They don't want to ruin their perfectly good friendship with them by adding something ridiculous like romance into it. Romance ruins everything. Platonic best friends can love each other more than romantic couples love each other. A woman can love her platonic best friend more than her boyfriend/husband. Platonic love is real, while romantic love is fake. Platonic relationships are way healthier than romantic relationships are.
I have no idea why people even shipped them at all. SHE WAS 18 AND HE WAS 14. For some reason that flies over everyone's heads? I worked with a 16 year old that was into me when I was 20. It was SUPER weird and he was nowhere near my level of just life experience. The teen years are short but a lot goes on in even a span of 2 years that could make 2 people incompatible.
That's the same reason I could never get behind this ship. I've seen people saying they could have gotten together when he was older but is still kinda creepy imo. Basically an adult who watched this kid grow up then immediately turns around and dates them when they're of legal age. Yuck.
When PB and Marceline finally got together in the finale (which was built up for years), one of the main things I heard people say was “Poor Finn. Both of his crushes got together instead of being with him. That’s a rough L to take.” One: Finn stopped having romantic feelings towards PB about 1/3 of the way through the show. They were just close friends the rest of the way. Two: Finn and Marceline was NEVER a thing throughout the entirety of the show. People just love to pull stuff out of nowhere.
Finn stopped pursuing PB once he had his realization in S5E31 'Too Old' as he said "Maybe age isn't just a number" to Jake. I don't get why people still act so surprised that they didn't get together since at that point it's obvious that the chances are little even Finn realized that himself. Finn never had a crush on Marceline, sure he blushes but it's because Marceline loves to teases him in the early seasons when he was just a young boy. Finn and Marceline is just a weird pair.
That's true but I understand where they're coming from, I think people hate the idea of the lonely Hero cuz it sounds like a sad life, maturity aside finn is still a hero in the land of Ooo and risk his life alot I think people hate the idea that when the fighting is over who is there for finn, it's like literally everybody in the show found somebody but him, like everyone else can be loved but not finn and people see themselves in finn so it's like saying "am I not worth loving? Does nobody in this world want to love me?" Granted you don't need a Romantic relationship to be happy but I imagine it hurts from time to time when your friends and crushes all have someone special and your sitting there beaten up broken and alone
@CipherRage0909 On the surface level I agree, they seem like a fun pair. But Finn lacks the emotional intelligence to truly understand Marceline and have a deeper relationship with her. There's a lot of layers to Marceline, which I don't think Finn would be able to understand, and at that point the relationship would be shallow. Imo they work better out as friends
I fuckin loved finn and flame princess. Specifically how flame princess matured and changed throughout the relationship. She started it as a naive, lost person trying to heal what was done to her and learn the world and it's people. In the end, she took control of her kingdom, made strong decisions, gained knowledge and wisdom, and best of all, HEALED AND MADE FRIENDS. I loved her and cinnamon buns' relationship, and it was super cute. I don't really like why they broke up, Finn deserved to be smacked for what he did to her. His development wasn't as strong either, he just went back to being himself and don't really learn much if anything.
Adventure Time had two great episodes in “The Pajama Wars” and “Bun Bun” that showed how Finn had matured and was completely cool with being good friends with his past love interests. His heartfelt apology to FP in “Bun Bun” was wonderful and it was so cool how they just ended up being tight friends for the rest of the show.
In my honest opinion, i for one always thought Finn was better off without a love interest i mean i like shipping as much as the next person but given the past of Finn's love life especially his relationship with Flame Princess he was definitely better off single....and i'm not the only one who thinks that i'm sure.
I mean given how things develop later on I thought it was just natural progression. if Finn stayed the same exact person after the FP breakup then yeah romance isn't on the table just yet, but that's wasn't the case seeing how chill he was with Huntress Wizard.
I love the way Finn and FP was written, and after they broke up is when we start to see Finn truly start maturing in to the character he becomes in the end.
Honestly i love how shady and crazy PB is. A lot of people don't like her for being evil but honestly i think her character is more than that. Idk I just love morally grey characters ig
I hate to be that person, but Finn being single is also a really good thing on the male gaze perspective. I feel like all the characters are really well written, they have flaws and they're lovable anyway (almost all of them) and i feel like creating a character only to make her Finn's girlfriend would be weird. And even if an existing character because his girlfriend, everything about her would have been removed, because everyone would be "ah yeah, Finn's girlfriend" Love this show
Growing up in Aventure time as a child and shipping PB and Finn, watching the ending as an adult and loving the ultimate OTP of Marceline and PB (in hindsight i watched the episode "what was missing" and yeah, it WAS there all along)
You enjoy people getting into a toxic relationship that has already failed once and the problems that caused that failure are still present and unresolved? Weird.
@@The1Ryu Wdym? Marceline and Bubblegum needed to grow as individuals first and they weren't really ready for each other yet when they first started dating, and didn't Obsidian established that they grew out of their toxic habits and learned how to deal with their issues in a more healthy way? So their relationship is not toxic, they grew up, worked on their relationship to be healthy and a lot better than the one they had before.
@@kasa-ysayan No, if that was the intent of 'Obsidian' it failed miserably at best all it did was show why the pair are such a toxic relationship and how unresolved the issues between them really are. Just look at the way even your describe it here. "they grew out of their toxic habits and learned how to deal with their issues" What toxic habits and issues are named and addressed in 'Obsidian'? You don't seem to know what their problems were or how they over came them. People can say their relationship is healthy, but without identifying and address their problems the relationship will always be toxic.
@@The1Ryu They did identify and addressed their problems, for PB it was addressed throughout the late seasons of the original show. For Marceline it was in Obsidian (and Stakes). PB learned how to chill and be more sentimental for her feelings and with the people around her, Marceline learned that having vulnerabilities isn't bad and finally made peace with her past traumas and later in Obsidian she communicated about her feelings with PB, since we all that Marceline have trouble being honest with her feelings. I don't think Obsidian failed miserably.
One of the more subtle angles that I really like about Finn's development and maturation in his friendship towards PB is how he's able, or NOT able, to recognize PB's relationship with Marceline. Like in the early episodes with major hints as to PB's and Marcie's past, Finn is clearly oblivious, while in the later parts of the show he's definitely aware that PB and Marcie were once a couple and are becoming a couple again. Like during PB's talk with Finn in the episode 'Burning Low', I think it's really interesting how in hindsight, it's pretty obvious that PB is trying to relate her breakup with Marceline to what Finn is going through with Flame Princess. But Finn thinks PB must be talking about HIM because even after 'What was Missing', the concept of PB and Marcie having been a couple has flown entirely over his head. Contrast that with episodes post-'Stakes' where Finn seems pretty aware that PB and Marcie are probably dating again.
It's always the fanart that sucks me into the dumpster fire that is shipping. Finn and PB were no different. Yeah, I was one of those fans that did want the two to be together. But it just wasn't meant to be. Man, I'm looking forward to the Finn and Flame Princess video! Also an all-time favorite ship of mine!
Peeps gotta remember that PB's chronological age and her biological age are like two different things. I am excited for your FlameFinn episode though, it was genuinely one of the first pairings I became attached to when I was younger, and it straight up broke my heart with how it ended.
Adventure Time is a show that grew up with you. It reeled me in when I was younger, stuck with me throughout the years, and taught me life lessons that other shows and my family didn't. It's exactly what I needed.
I'm so glad you've gone into this. After seeing your how shipping ruined star vs the force of evil I just hoped you would talk about the relationships in Adventure time.
I thought Finn and literal fire (hehe) was very cute, but i loved how his bad decisions were treated as such and he grew. PB too really changed, both from what we knew of her and how she grew herself.
- no, its true. i want you to be really careful out there. - don't worry, i've got susan - that's not what i mean. finn, i get the sense that this trip's more important to you than you're letting on. i mean, if you make it to that island, you might find out some pretty heavy stuff. about the humans, where you came from, about yourself. all that im saying: you have to promise me - *promise me* - that you'll come home safe. literally best brotp
I was never on board with this ship even when I was a kid just because it felt mean how Finn always kept chasing and pining after PB while she never seemed to appreciate him and return his feelings. But watching the show as I grew older and maturing along with it, it's clear as day that it was never meant to be and the chemistry was never there. Especially with how different Finn and especially PB became in the later seasons. I just retcon too young in my head cause early PB is really nothing like later Bonnie. I'm glad they stayed friends and the friendship they made after all those years was actually more precious than anything. Pajama party was a great episode and it just warms my heart seeing them being bros completely comforted by each other's presence.
On a recent rewatch of Adventure Time with my brother I realized that PB manly treats Finn like a younger brother and a friend. The only time she was in love with him was when she became his age. After she came back to her original self she told Finn that it their relationship was a long time ago. Why is everything on this show so amazing? :P Also, I may have missed a lot of things on my childhood because I definitely didn't get into pole dancing :(
Finn x Flame Princess used to be my OTP, then I moved to another country, stopped seeing the series because I didn't have TV, and I learned they broke up. But in my heart they are still together, because I barely had an idea what happened next.
Finn was meant to be romantically single because he already found his soulmate and it’s jake. Soulmates can also be friends, family, and others… soulmates are not always romantic partners! Im happy that finn didnt get a gf because he was meant to explore with jake til’ the end.
Still liked Finnn and Flame Princess, the part where he had to be wrapped in tinfoil to hug her was the cutest thing ever! Too bad they had to ruin it with the Status Quo is God Trope! Now that I think about it, that Trope screwed up Jake's relationship with his kids.
I spent years wanting Finn to get back with flame princess after I saw an episode that said they broke up, but then last year I binged some of the series and FINALLY saw why they broke up. Yeah... Finn doesn't deserve to get back with F.P. what he did to her was SOOOO bad and manipulative.
I remember when finn was about to depart to find human islands BBG made him promise to return back when he's done. It shows that to her Finn is not just a hero who protects her Kingdom or something, but a close friend that she doesn't want to lose
Adventure Time was definitely one of those shows that was much deeper than you could originally expect at all & you HAD to be there to really understand how impactful/Deep it really was & something the internet & the youth needed. ill argue to this day that this is probably one if not thee best cartoon in the past 15/20 years.
Funny enough in a comic, Finn was jumping timelines or dimensions, can't remember but he marries both Mary and Bonnie at the same time, pretty sure the comics aren't canon but it's still wild
IM EXCITED FOR THE FINN AND FP VID! I loved them so much and hated what finn did to her.... Im glad they both developed and matured on their own as well. But I WILL NOT LIE, a part of me wishes they reconnected later in life. I really do. Because its the initial chemistry and excitement, the way they had problems but worked through them early on in their relationship. Their dynamic, their individuality, thats the stuff that still has a vice grip on my brain, LOL. Ive never been one to actually want to see Finn be shipped with anyone, its not a requirement for me the way some other fans may feel. "Oh he has to end up with SOMEONE!! He has to be happy!" Because, no, having a s/o isnt the pinnacle of happiness. But FP and Finn were just so fun and easy to enjoy, they're almost my personal exception. Age gap problems for most of these set aside (because that is a problem for me), PB/Finn was never something I wanted, and Im ecstatic with the outcome. Marcy was similar (besides, I caught on to bubbline so early on and i was sold so fast). The pillow girl and their family was just a single episode plot thing. Yes of course it was nice, but the episode didnt make me care about them together (and i dont think they intended to anyway). And Huntress Wizard just felt like an enigma, something born out of spontaneity and kept casual. And on FP's side, Im not fond of the trope of Her Majesty and Her Faithful Knight in general, and thats where Cinnabun landed... It just felt like if Finn and PB were more mature and had major improvements, but still had the dynamic of one serving the other. Whereas Finn is a hero to the land of Ooo, not just a knight for the flame kingdom and at FP's order. They hit that sweet spot for me, and reconnection is such a thing that i love (Hint hint, why i picked up on bubbline so fast!) Oh well, it's something that will live rent free in my head 😂 and tbh, thats not a bad thing! **EDIT** LMAO FUCK sorry for the essay, i literally intended to just say "Cant wait for the vid! this one was great"
Perhaps I'm biased because I'm aromantic but shipping can really ruin shows like Adventure Time. Like a wacky and creative show about crazy characters in a cool post apocalyptic show was was awesome like do we really need to sully the vibe with romance!?
@@wildflowerproductions1414 The show _stopped_ being a part-time romance drama when Pendleton Ward stepped down and Adam Muto took over, so if you stopped watching at that point, I suggest you try to watch it now (or soon, or at least some time) as it's all pretty darn good.
@@wildflowerproductions1414 "Finn hopping from princess to princess" was one episode, which makes me think you only watched that episode. And if you only watched that episode and the Marceline episodes, then sure, I can see how you think the show was only embracing ships. But can you really even pretend to have an opinion of something you haven't actually seen?
This whole mess kinda reminds me of an American Re:Zero, specifically the gross "Nice Guy/Whiny White Knight" thing between Subaru and Emilia. Anyway, I only really found it cute in that "13 again" episode.
I don't know why Subaru gets reduced down to nice guy even before his development in season 2 when saving dozens of people and dying for it, all the tenderness Emilia gave him she can't remember, and getting fucked over anyway is such a incel thing to have a mental breakdown over. While I'll never see the same energy for Harley Quinn and Katra literally committing genocide over blue balls
@@MintJammer yeah, plus I never understood why subaru got so much hate from the fans, like what was he supposed to do? Run away and live a quiet life? Well he tried to with rem but she wouldn't let him although personally I'd have just gone with rem and left emilia and the mansion alone cuz if their all so powerful then they should handle it (even though it's shown time and time again subaru had to get involved) I think he didn't use the best methods I agree but him being the white knight is actually tragic because only he remembers, every time he starts over he has technically no obligation to help anyone yet not only does he go above and beyond to help he puts his life on the line over and over again for people who won't remember what he did which makes him a hero
@PowerCore Productions i kind of understand what you mean but at the same time op is right. Just in case, Subaru is my favorite character EVER when it comes to Japanimation. He is so fleshed out and relatable, his further growth makes you root for him. I honestly don't care about shipping, i just want my man to be happy! So here is my take on it: Early SubaruxEmilia was unhealthy and one sided. Subaru was stuck up in that power fantasy thinking that he was THE hero. It was still the case even after he discovered "RbD". Maybe it wasn't totally his fault, maybe it was just a coping mechanism, but it wasn't right anyway. Subaru have a little bit of "Savior complex" which is understandable, anybody who'd have the power to go back in time would feel like they have to save their beloved. Subaru though take gratification from it. It's a visceral need of validation ( for the emotional safety and comfort it brings) we can find in people who suffer from depression or even anxiety ( talking here about Subaru). Early Subaru is obsessed about Emilia, not out of simpness but out of need for comfort. If someone so great loves him than he musn't be that bad! Emilia was compassionate, surely she'll find enough kindness in her heart to love him if he prooves himself useful ? The thing is... It's not how it works. Love ( in all it's form ) doesn't work that way. You don't need to prove anything to be loved. The bare minimum is sincerity and honesty ( and depending on people's own boundaries, some people are fine with secrecy lol ) Subaru doesn't NEED Emilia's love. He needs self-love. He somehow always "infantilised"? Emilia thinking in her stead or making her feelings about him. Now, he grew out of that fase and it's a little similar to Fin's experience, i think. If you read the Kasaneru if ( greed if ) you realise how important it was for Subaru to reject Echidna's offer and "love himself" which he still struggle to achieve. Subaru throwing his life and being a "hero" isn't what makes him happy. I see Re: zero as more of an emotional journey than a power adventure or the typical isekai that doesn't provide trope subversion or commentary. Subaru isn't a simp ( i don't like that word tbh. People like to throw it around :/) but clearly, to some point, Subaru's view on relationship is flawed. It all come from his self-loathing tendencies and loneliness that comes from his incapacity to bond and make friend with people during high school. Subaru is a tragic character, the tragedy isn't him being a white knight, it's Subaru being powerless while being aware of upcoming events which makes him feel like he have to be THE white knight. His feelings of inferiority push him into being stuck up, which explain his "hatred" ( they became friends afterward and i kind of love their friendship ) toward Julius who is THE perfect knight. There is also another parallel with Oboreru if ( pride if ) in which Subaru's inferiority complex and hatred is all directed toward Reinhardt. All to hide his feeling of helplessness and powerlessness because Reinhardt could do something he died like a 100 time for ( i actually forgot the number and can't remember if it waq 23 or 400 ) So yeah, relationship matter and Subaru wouldn't have been able to grow without them but at the same time he needed personal growth to be able to form healthy relationships with everyone. So yeah... Thanks for listening. Have a nice week ! Bye bye.
What is with these kids show protagonists being creepy like this and writers wanting us to sympathize with their twisted pining? Miraculous Ladybug, Adventure Time, TMNT 2011, Star vs...
Finn gets to mature and saw that his past behavior was (as certain lemon would say) UNACCEPTABLEEEEEEEEEEEEE. star vs: i stop seeing it after the battle for mewni. Miraculous: i avoid like the pague the forth season after the horrible third season finale (and the third season period) TMNT 2011: i wasn't as invested bit i will try to see it.
I watched this show because of these reviews. You gave enough insight into the show that i was interested in the deeper plot later in the series and you kept from spoiling enough that by season 10 my heart still broke from the pure heartwarming solid ending. Thank you so much for introducing this to me this show will be a top spot contender for some of my favorite animated shows for some time to come.💜
I was shocked when I stopped watching Adventure Time for a while, came back and Princess Bubblegum was a tyrannical dictator running a heavily monitored police state and treating life like it was hers to play with. After hearing the description of the zombie episode, I realize I was just being naïve.
Honestly I was very grossed out by how people shipped a little boy with an adult woman. Notice how in the gender swap version they aged up fiona? Is it cause they knew if she was a little girl that people would realise how gross it is?
I've always wonder where this obsession with ships come from, but then we have to remember that decades if not centuries of story telling have a b or c romance plot line that is given way to much credence for what they were. Its as if the general viewer has been condition to believe that any thing even remotely beyond complete stranger lines has to end in romance.
Honestly, I wish he had a permanent relationship only because it seems like he never really moved on since he confirmed that he was basically just waiting for the day he'd see Jake again (and considering how young Finn appears to be when we see the tattoo that's a long damn time to just be waiting for the inevitable). I don't really care about ships (though I'll always feel how they ended things with FP was stupid), but it would've been nice to have someone he could rely on indefinitely when he lost Jake. That was pretty much Finn losing his other half.
This entire show is just a D&D campaign on the most amount of drugs they could take and keep going. Maybe take from the bathtub barracuda on giving life lessons.
My OTP will always be Finn X Flame Princess. I just loved the cute moments so much although it really sucks how it ended, but he was a kid. Kids do dumb shit and I'm glad the writers made him move on and grow as a person, even if it hurts me for how much I love the ship. When I first started watching the show, I used to be a Finn X PB shipper, but now that I'm an adult, I love PB x Marcy of course and grew out of shipping an immortal...with a teenager. Although I do agree 13 year old PB and Finn together were adorable and their friendship is great
People see Princess Bubblegum as a villain...I see her more as a nice lady with misguided morals and a dysfunctional gum family, as well as a royal anti-hero with goddess-like powers... I enjoy the friendships she has with Finn and Jake, as well as the same-sex relationship that developed between her and Marceline the Vampire Queen...
Never saw finn and princess bubblegum as endgame either. I thought it was cute when she was younger, but realistically they weren't vibing at the same level
Again excelent video, i honestly find interesting this type of dynamic and is rarely explore, and i get why, If you are writting two exes or failed crushs, there is that one elephant in the room that the audience will never not notice, and the author may be tempeted to make it will they or wont they? situation. And the thing is there is potential to some pretty fun and unique platonic interaction to have once you make it clear that they wont be together, and like here on Adventure time, the friend ship between the two made em closer that they would be in a romantic relationship, and this is an angle i would love to see explore more tbh
I always noticed one thing about bubblegum's relation with finn, she seems to see finn more as a younger brother, many moments of the series strike me as her being finn's older sister, especially after finn realises she is out of his league
By the mere definition of a kingdom, the Candy Kingdom is not a kingdom. It is instead a principality: a state that ruled by either a prince or princess.
You know what? The huntress wizard and finn relationship is perfect, they are both compulsive and have too much going on to have anything but something casual and fleeting. I don’t even ship them, I just like that it is what it is.
To be honest I think the only people who ship Finn and Bubblegum are people who have just started watching the show, mostly consisting of kids (speaking from my own experience of watching the show)
The shipping really jumped the shark with that godawful Bee episode. No joke, as someone who likes to see a series through the good and the bad to the end, that episode made me reconsider my way of thinking.
I grew up with this show and I never really wanted to see finn get with anyone after flam princess. I never really thought of bubble gum and fin as possible romantic interests, it reminded me more of spike and rarity from my little pony. Finn had a little boyish crush and an older girl but bubble gum always just saw him as a little brother.
oh damn I'm excited for this series. Finn's growth through all his failed romance is one of the most satisfying things in the show I think. It's messy and gross as hell most of the time but he comes out of it having grown so much, I'm excited to see someone go over all that
Also athough we never get enough of Huntress Wizard to fully explore her, I do generally love her design and her char. Her litttle thing with finn is cute and i really wish we had at least one more ep it at the end to explore them a little. At least we have fanfic
Honestly I never really shipped bubblegum and Finn but I did like their dynamic as friends I think they work a lot better as being friends or BFFs then them being in a relationship
A few misconceptions in the video by a huge fan of Adventure Time... 10:26 "The Ice King killed her", actually it was Finn who killed her for tipping the frozen possessed Princess Bubblegum. The clip even said the Ice King didn't kill her. 12:32 "He was dating Marceline AND Princess Bubblegum then". The comics never mentioned Finn dated them and there isn't any proof that he was. It's more likey he dated other girls and view PB and Marceline as friends and besides, their non-cannon so why bring it up?
I like how in the scenes we see of adult Finn is Distant Lands, he never had a permanent gf.
Nothing wrong with dating obviously, but its good that he matured and wasn't just desperate to date someone like when he was younger.
Well we don’t know for sure. For all we know he may even have kids but yes I agree in all likelihood Finn never really got into a permanent relationship which isn’t a bad thing at all
Ikr
I appreciated seeing that! As someone who doesn’t have much luck with dating and has been mainly single for 18 years, it’s nice seeing a character single and happy. I think that representation is important. You don’t need to have love to enjoy life and although it seems like you’ll never find someone just take it day by day. That’s really important! Dating isn’t easy for everyone! Especially the last human
Nah in the new series he's with Huntresses Wizard
@@daytonaofcv6856yup XD
Honestly, the ship doesn't make sense but it makes sense that Finn being a young and immature child about to go through puberty would probably be attracted to the only pretty, semi-humanoid woman in his life at the time.
even as a kid that’s what i assumed it was, like everyone around him including the other princesses was weird, scary, or a sentient animal/object and there are no other humans
yeah lol poor finn 😭
I almost feel like he an Huntress Wizard did get together but are always just moving becuase of the lives they want.
I always assumed that he and HW got together.

It think it because Adam Muto didn't created Adventure Times, Pendleton Ward did so they don't consider thing Adam did Canon.

People villanizing PB in this way is based in misogyny ngl
@CipherRage0909 @CipherRage0909 did we even watch the same show because whag did I just read 😭
PB never toyed with Finn's romantic feelings.
That's always been a trope.

I really hoped and even expected Flame Princess to forgive Finn since their relationship was great up until that moment. But kn the other hand, AT has all my respect for making Finn deal with the consequences of his actions. Its easy for a show to have characters forgive and teach kids that saying sorry will excuse your hurtful actions... instead, Finn learns the hard way that his actions lost him everything at once.
20 years old isnt really much life experience either tbh lol
That's the same reason I could never get behind this ship. I've seen people saying they could have gotten together when he was older but is still kinda creepy imo. Basically an adult who watched this kid grow up then immediately turns around and dates them when they're of legal age. Yuck.
@@ydontubegray yeah but graduated with car insurance and going to college vs still in high school is a bit of a perspective difference
btw youre wrong
To be fair, most of the people who shipped them were little kids who had crushes on older people
When PB and Marceline finally got together in the finale (which was built up for years), one of the main things I heard people say was “Poor Finn.

I loved her and cinnamon buns' relationship, and it was super cute. I don't really like why they broke up, Finn deserved to be smacked for what he did to her. His development wasn't as strong either, he just went back to being himself and don't really learn much if anything.
Agreed!!!!
Yeah looking back this was literally just a preteen going entering puberty, thirsting after the first grown woman how isn’t related to him

I love how when PB turned 13 ice king was like, "fuck this shit I'm out" lololol

I find it funny how Finn served the only princess in Ooo that didn’t like him like that.
Great point 😂
10:46 i appreciate that ice king wasnt as creepy as he usually was in the earlier seasons and justed noped out of there when pb got turned 13.
- no, its true. i want you to be really careful out there.
- don't worry, i've got susan
- that's not what i mean. finn, i get the sense that this trip's more important to you than you're letting on. i mean, if you make it to that island, you might find out some pretty heavy stuff. about the humans, where you came from, about yourself. all that im saying: you have to promise me - *promise me* - that you'll come home safe.
literally best brotp
10:45 It says a lot that even a magic guy that’s lived for years and lost his mind will not prey on a minor
On a recent rewatch of Adventure Time with my brother I realized that PB manly treats Finn like a younger brother and a friend. The only time she was in love with him was when she became his age. After she came back to her original self she told Finn that it their relationship was a long time ago. Why is everything on this show so amazing? :P
Also, I may have missed a lot of things on my childhood because I definitely didn't get into pole dancing :(
Finn x Flame Princess used to be my OTP, then I moved to another country, stopped seeing the series because I didn't have TV, and I learned they broke up. But in my heart they are still together, because I barely had an idea what happened next.
Flame princess was my favorite ship. The Finn just screwed it all up. I can't wait to relive my memories of that and your take on it.
Sarcastic Corris is a shipping channel now?! FUCK!
That's awesome 😎
Hey if you read this one did I trick you into thinking it was a hate comment?
Now all I need is for him to read Homestuck, and discuss shipping within it.
We got em boys.
This channel reminds me why I hate cartoon romance
I spent years wanting Finn to get back with flame princess after I saw an episode that said they broke up, but then last year I binged some of the series and FINALLY saw why they broke up. Yeah... Finn doesn't deserve to get back with F.P. what he did to her was SOOOO bad and manipulative.
Ice kings lines are too good
“Ok I didn’t kill her everyone saw that”
“Well I’m out of here, goodbye everyone”
I remember when finn was about to depart to find human islands BBG made him promise to return back when he's done. It shows that to her Finn is not just a hero who protects her Kingdom or something, but a close friend that she doesn't want to lose
Man I would have love to See Huntress Wizard and Flame Princess fight.
Hate to say it but... my money are on Flame Princess. I mean , Huntress wizard is made out of things that burn !
I freaking love Adventure Time! Please cover all the ships in this show! That’d be an awesome series.
I would really love it if he discuss Fiolee and Gumlee ♥️
Adventure Time was definitely one of those shows that was much deeper than you could originally expect at all & you HAD to be there to really understand how impactful/Deep it really was & something the internet & the youth needed. ill argue to this day that this is probably one if not thee best cartoon in the past 15/20 years.
the fact that back in 2010 we were all arguing about Finn x PB vs Finn x Marceline and it turned out to be PB x Marceline
Funny enough in a comic, Finn was jumping timelines or dimensions, can't remember but he marries both Mary and Bonnie at the same time, pretty sure the comics aren't canon but it's still wild
This ship romantically has always been so weird. PB is an adult and Finn was a child throughout the whole show, ofc it’s gonna be one-sided
They hit that sweet spot for me, and reconnection is such a thing that i love (Hint hint, why i picked up on bubbline so fast!)
Oh well, it's something that will live rent free in my head 😂 and tbh, thats not a bad thing!
**EDIT** LMAO FUCK sorry for the essay, i literally intended to just say "Cant wait for the vid! this one was great"
I can't really disagree. The only time I thought the ship worked was when she shrunk and that was for what 2 episodes.
i kinda wish she stayed 13 ngl she was way funnier and her interactions with finn just felt a lot more organic, romance or friendship
Perhaps I'm biased because I'm aromantic but shipping can really ruin shows like Adventure Time. Like a wacky and creative show about crazy characters in a cool post apocalyptic show was was awesome like do we really need to sully the vibe with romance!?
This has nothing to do with what you said but, hi fellow aro!
@@wildflowerproductions1414 The show _stopped_ being a part-time romance drama when Pendleton Ward stepped down and Adam Muto took over, so if you stopped watching at that point, I suggest you try to watch it now (or soon, or at least some time) as it's all pretty darn good.
Idk shipping makes a show 10x better for me
@@wildflowerproductions1414 "Finn hopping from princess to princess" was one episode, which makes me think you only watched that episode. And if you only watched that episode and the Marceline episodes, then sure, I can see how you think the show was only embracing ships.
But can you really even pretend to have an opinion of something you haven't actually seen?
@@jasmintea8825 anti-shippers are just and that they cant get a good relationship
So here is my take on it:
Early SubaruxEmilia was unhealthy and one sided.
The bare minimum is sincerity and honesty ( and depending on people's own boundaries, some people are fine with secrecy lol )
Subaru doesn't NEED Emilia's love.
All to hide his feeling of helplessness and powerlessness because Reinhardt could do something he died like a 100 time for ( i actually forgot the number and can't remember if it waq 23 or 400 )
So yeah, relationship matter and Subaru wouldn't have been able to grow without them but at the same time he needed personal growth to be able to form healthy relationships with everyone.

Miraculous: i avoid like the pague the forth season after the horrible third season finale (and the third season period)
TMNT 2011: i wasn't as invested bit i will try to see it.
Lmao truest thing ever, but at least Adventure time has likeable Characters, unlike miraculous.
Dude, hush
*tmnt 2012
At least in AT Peebs and Finn were well written characters, Miraculous characters weren't even lucky enough to get that 😒
I watched this show because of these reviews.

Rewatching Adventure Time, I've been spotting all the foreshadowing for finn losing his arm and getting a metal prosthetic, and it blows my mind lol
It's also cool noticing how much details were planned as far back. E. G. In Marceline's debut episode, she mentioned that she was in the Fire Kingdom
I was shocked when I stopped watching Adventure Time for a while, came back and Princess Bubblegum was a tyrannical dictator running a heavily monitored police state and treating life like it was hers to play with.
After hearing the description of the zombie episode, I realize I was just being naïve.
Huntress Wizard and Finn is the only one that’s good
I'm surprised he didn't mention the actually shipping epsidoe. The one where finn gets dolls of him and the other characters in the show
That episode was so weird lmao
Honestly I was very grossed out by how people shipped a little boy with an adult woman.
Notice how in the gender swap version they aged up fiona? Is it cause they knew if she was a little girl that people would realise how gross it is?
fionna wasn't aged up, she was the same age as finn. and ppl found it creepy either way lol

10:47 let that one scene tell you how much of a Chad ice king was
Honestly, I wish he had a permanent relationship only because it seems like he never really moved on since he confirmed that he was basically just waiting for the day he'd see Jake again (and considering how young Finn appears to be when we see the tattoo that's a long damn time to just be waiting for the inevitable). I don't really care about ships (though I'll always feel how they ended things with FP was stupid), but it would've been nice to have someone he could rely on indefinitely when he lost Jake. That was pretty much Finn losing his other half.
Right? i totally agree .
Although I do agree 13 year old PB and Finn together were adorable and their friendship is great
My OTP is Fiolee, I'm always a sucker for good girl x bad (or mischievous) boy. Though almost every ship in Adventure Time I ship.
Fanboy.
@@bakedbeans5494 Aren't you the can of LSP's beans, which got knocked over by Finn?

Exactly, and most people see her as a villain simply bc she never accepted Finn's confession. No one understand Bubblegum is lesbian.
@@moonamoonz That makes it even worse.
Never saw finn and princess bubblegum as endgame either. I thought it was cute when she was younger, but realistically they weren't vibing at the same level
0:19 "Whatever this was" MAN FINTRESS IS THE TRUE SHIP FOR FINN
Adventure Time was something else. Truly special. I'm glad I was alive in a time to experience it. That may sound dramatic, but I mean it.
PB and Finn is Mario and Peach but somewhat more deranged.
Definitely weird that a bunch of people were shipping a literal child with an adult centuries his senior. Yikes.
People shipped Finn and Marcy, I always saw her as a big sister to him, that probably taught him a few dateing tips
Huntress wizard WAS end game tho
6:13
Bro I can't at this series of dialogue
By the mere definition of a kingdom, the Candy Kingdom is not a kingdom. It is instead a principality: a state that ruled by either a prince or princess.
You know what? The huntress wizard and finn relationship is perfect, they are both compulsive and have too much going on to have anything but something casual and fleeting. I don’t even ship them, I just like that it is what it is.
To be honest I think the only people who ship Finn and Bubblegum are people who have just started watching the show, mostly consisting of kids (speaking from my own experience of watching the show)
This show has a special place in a lot of people’s hearts
The shipping really jumped the shark with that godawful Bee episode.
No joke, as someone who likes to see a series through the good and the bad to the end, that episode made me reconsider my way of thinking.
As not-too-magical of an episode as that was, it surely is one of the most questionable and weirdest to have existed
I like what they tried to do, but it never feels like an AT story for various reasons. ALSO LSP rapes Finn. he put in the vault. True story
@@pedroff_1 UNACCEPTABLE!🍋
Hey at least Ice king wasn't gonna stay for a "13 year old"
I grew up with this show and I never really wanted to see finn get with anyone after flam princess. I never really thought of bubble gum and fin as possible romantic interests, it reminded me more of spike and rarity from my little pony. Finn had a little boyish crush and an older girl but bubble gum always just saw him as a little brother.
Heroic lawful good child champions a benevolent dictator. Good freaking stuff.
oh damn I'm excited for this series. Finn's growth through all his failed romance is one of the most satisfying things in the show I think. It's messy and gross as hell most of the time but he comes out of it having grown so much, I'm excited to see someone go over all that
Werid ship but def a fun friendship. Stoke that your talking about adventure time since it one my fav shows
Also athough we never get enough of Huntress Wizard to fully explore her, I do generally love her design and her char. Her litttle thing with finn is cute and i really wish we had at least one more ep it at the end to explore them a little. At least we have fanfic
LSP had the best realtionships imo. The drama, tension, and love
