Because high quality video equipment was so expensive in the early days, most of the great bands have very few, (and usually low quality) videos to watch today. The Midnight Special had the best video recording equipment available during that time, so these are some real nuggets.
The 70s. What amazing musical time to have been alive. So much creativity and experimentation. Something for everyone! What kills me is how the audience can just sit there!
Al Green unforgettable great performance, he's having so much fun singing and dancing during the closing number "Here I Am" with that sweet horn section!
He’s so sexy the way he moves sooo effortlessly and with that SMOOOOOTH voice - just like warm cocoa butter dipped in chocolate, Al makes me melt in a puddle … 🫠 😍
Al Green's version of "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart?" here is absolutely sublime, although I do miss the recorded version's riff at the end, when he sings, "How can you stop the rain from falling down?" and then turns it literal, shouting, “My clothes are all wet!”
Al Green was on another level. Here we see why he got as big as he did. He had the songs, the voice, the look, the presence... just incredible. Bobby Womack was great here too.
Al Green 'Al Green's Greatest Hits' released in 1975 was my first Album l bought back in 1979 on TDK tape and on Vinyl. The Album took me through the highs and lows the pride and joys of my life. In 2003, the album was ranked number 52 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. Thank you Midnight Special for a wonderful show.
I love Midnight Special! I was just a kid when it originally aired and I would watch it at my best friend’s house during a sleepover. Now I really appreciate the amazing performances. ❤
Another great episode, when I was 13 in 1973 Al Green played a concert in Monroe LA, I begged my parents to go see him, mom said, "No we ain't got the money and you ain't staying out that late on a school night", this kind of made up for missing the show. A couple of years ago we were listening to the Retro soul station and "Let's stay together" came on, me and the other cooks sang it, I was lead and the girls sang back up, the rest of the staff clapped, loved it. The Stylistics, man, Stone in Love with you, I sang that to my wife, we love that song. Livingston Taylor sounded unique, but familiar, like the B-side of an old favorite. I didn't know Foghat was formed with former Savoy Brown members, I can hear the linage, 1st time I see them live, great stuff. Ramblin Jack's name was a perfect fit, Bobby Womack great as always. Murray on the comedy team became famous as the Unknown Comic.
When I heard him sing , I knew Livingston Taylor had to be related to James Taylor , I had never heard of him before Now ! . I bet they could do amazing harmonies . Now I have to search for a duet with the 2 of them .
Obrigado por esta preciosidade musical destes meninos nunca mais teremos outros magníficos da showmisique 👍🇧🇷👏👏👏👏👏👏 tinha só 14 anos e não faltava nas brincadeiras de bairro muita dança !
If you haven’t heard of Eva Marie Cassidy and her version of this song check it out. She was an amazing vocalist/guitarist/pianist and passed so young at 33 due to melanoma cancer in 1996, so sad but her music lives on.
@@kevingoins9858 he’s part of Al Greens band called the Enterprise orchestra. His guitarist was mentored by the legendary Memphis boy Reggie Young. Al really wanted Reggie but Reggie had an issue with ALs producer Wille Mitchell who often cheated the band out of money . Eventually the whole band quit due to money issues .
@SuperBeachbum74 You're thinking of Teenie Hodges. Al's road guitarist is on stage here, Larry Lee who played with Hendrix in his band gypsies sons and rainbows at Woodstock.
Al Green is one of the best artist of all time!!

The Reverend doing some of his best preaching

This is like traveling back in time but you cannot change anything from it. Nice performances of original artists esp. Foghat and Stylistics.
I wouldn't change a thing!

Wow. Al Green at hist best.

@ronaldolaquidara64 They were told by the producers to be quiet during the performances so that they'd sound better on the broadcast.
Also recorded at 10;00 in the morning

There's a live version of Harry hippie on soul train you should see that one bro
Written by Jim Ford but Bobby kills it
Yo!
Technically, it isn't the best Womack song ever. That honor would have to go to "Across 110th Street."
@@frankpontone2139 bobby Womack prime performances are all good from the early 1970s

Yes Al Green. I like his digital watch too. It's cool.
I met al green in 1974 at the tunder bird hotel great person
Livingston Taylor's first album from 1970. Not a bad song on it. Would be a Grammy winner if released today.
Al Green inimitável , Stylistics sensacionais , obrigada por postar + este Espetáculo .
I missed the premire, but I know this episode will be fire!
So good!
The Reverend was somethin special!
6:26 39:35 My favorite band ever! Slow ride is my ultimate favorite song by them. Gotta love Foghat. Rest in peace Dave and Rod. 🙏🏻❤️🔥👍🏻🎼🎤🎸🥁
Yes, been a huge fan since the mid 70's!
I’ve got 2 copies of Fool For the City album, 1 @ home & 1 @ my “happy place”, love it still, Great rockin’ band! 🤘
Never heard of Livingston Taylor, but he sounds very similar to James Taylor. Just googled it and see that they are brothers.
I saw that episode! First time I had heard of Foghat! Great band!
I would have given anything to be in that audience.
ALL of the singers and groups where sounding GOOD!
I wish that I had access to the Time Tunnel.
Al Green no auge...banda azeitada, musica ao vivo de verdade, nada de coreografias, palcos gigantescos e bailarinos, talento real
I was today years old when i found out James Taylor has a brother named Livingston that sounds just like him.
Loved Al Green. Damn, he can sing. Enjoyed hearing him with a band but wondering why the keys and horns were in the dark.
I don't usually watch the whole comedy set but Freeman and Murray were really funny. "We landed on the dark side of the moon." 😂😂😂😂
