I recommend Tone Studio and also check out what the classic effects are (in general) if you don't know already. What is Compressor, what is Flanger, what is Chorus? Spring, hall, plate, or tape reverb? How is delay used? Learning these things and then trying them out is fun.
I had a 50w MKI and upgraded to the 100w MKII. The variations and presence knob were enough to sell me. The good thing is these amps retain their resale value.
I have the 50mk1 as well and most people seem to think the speaker unit on the original 50s was voiced better than subsequent models. I have no reason upgrade either, it's a solid workhorse amp.
I normally take a listen to alot of these demo's of Amps and come away thinking "Just didn't dig the tone" I gotta say this Katana has serious tone on the lead channel. Now I understand why Andy James loves playing them.

Great demo, but it seems that the only new features are the pedalboard and stereo spread ports...not even the presence knob or the additional patch memories of the 100 are there...for a little less than the price of this amp you can get the 50 mk2 + the airstep. I did.

I had to travel into London yesterday to try out one of thses. It is because PMT did not follow up on the tip that I gave about a music shop becoming available in southeast London. Now part of that shop is a dance studio. Going back to the Katana, I will be purchasing one of them as I really enjoyed the experience. Great amp in such an easily portable size.

I've been amp shopping. I have the Yamaha THR30ii, but no speaker out w/ 8" speakers in the wrong room ☹️... Kinda' sad. I was gravitating towards EVH 5150's (because I LOVE Ed's sound), but the handful of technical failures noted gives me second thoughts. Your demo was so perfectly done - l have been redirected! PS. so what's the actual difference? the presets? or are there more effects already loaded into this one from the factory? without having to go to the boss tone studio?
Just an FYI (Be aware) I personally can't get the Boss Tone Studio to work!!! Key point is... keep in mind you Can Not reach BOSS by phone or any other way! There is zero ability to get help. If you have any trouble with anything (such as never being able to get the Tone Studio) then you are 100% out of luck. I bought the 50 new version a little over a month ago and while it sounds fine and the knobs on the top are useful it only lets you do so much with the knobs. I only wanted the best practice amp for home usage but if the tone studio is the best feature and it never downloads and does not work then what is the point? At this time, I would rather just get another smaller tube amp and drag out my pedals.
Bought one for €420 the other day, just have to collect it from the guitar shop, the shop assistant said there was a 100watt version for an extra €50, I want to gig with it, is the 100watt a better investment?

yeah I know, but if you plug your gain boosters, wah and maybe phaser pedals through the front end then use the built-in delays, reverbs and other time based effects you easily can get what you need without the loop.
The reviewers keep saying you can go into a stereo expand mode, but I don’t see where the jack or the switch is on the katana 50 mark ii EX to do the stereo expand

Ticks so many boxes but one niggling issue for me. I know Bluetooth can be flakey but I'd rather you could connect to your phone/tablet to use the tone studio app. I'm not keen on having a physical connection

Well SOB, I finally bothered plugging the Katana into the computer and for the 1st time, accessed all the pedals, EQ's and other features. *Turns out, it's not a POS after all!* Of course with that said, it's not as good as people praise it to be, but just using the panel to dial in sounds it is atrocious, and an amp that you cannot access the functions without a computer is in that regard, a POS for that alone. *With all that said, you will still get a hell of a lot more buying a $150 Gamma and a Valeton floor modeler.* More amps, more pedals, more effects and a noise gate. I just wish I hadn't suffered through the Boss for nearly 3 years in it's hand configured limitations.

I'm on katana 50 mk1 and I absolutely do not feel need to upgrade as for now, that's how good they're.

Same here, I still use my MK1 50. Have had no reason to upgrade nor do I use tone studio. For the bar gigs I do, it’s perfect

I have been peeping the Boss Katana's both MkI and now MkII to replace my recently acquired used Fender Mustang V2.
How do you save 4 presets? How do you save tone # 3 if there’s only 2 channel switches on the top? Can you save from the foot switch?

I use the airstep kat version with my 50. It has Bluetooth so I can use it on my phone and gives me 5 foot switches. So I've already got all that

For me is like use my regular Boss Katana 50 MKII with the pedalboard Sonic Airstep Kat, but with that you can use with phone wirelessly.
