Damn, I haven't heard this since I was a little kid in the 80's. For some weird reason, this just popped into my head today and I looked it up. I remember recording it from some radio station in San Antonio, TX onto a cassette tape. I loved parody songs when I was a kid. Especially weird Al.
I remember when this song came out. That was a time when you had to wait for it to come on the radio. Unless you bought it, that was the only way to hear it. Kids today have no idea of the plight we suffered through.
I came here after a joke by comedian Kam Patterson. I was at university when Rumors and this came out. This is my first time ever seeing this video!😂😂😂
Adults today don't understand that with any and every song available for free at the few pushes of a screen, how totally worthless music is instead of having to pay money and go places to pick up music. Nah, it's just background noise like all the other free stuff. Swipe away.
So true. If you're lucky you have a blank cassette all ready to go and you only missed the first few seconds. And then you get that click sound at the end.
In the 80s when I was about 13 I heard this song for the first time on the radio. I said "That's the coolest sh*t I've ever heard!!" Bought the album a few days later. I still have it.
I clicked this video cuz when I was 12, I saw them at a concert at my local fairpark in California. They were opening for the Egyptian Lover and the World Class Wrecking Crew. TWCR gave out little programs with their picture on it. I had it signed by the DJ and two of the rappers: Dre, Ren,Yella and the Arabian Prince. A few years later, the former 3 would become N.W.A. Crazy.🤣
Dayum!! I heard this song this morning on an internet radio station and I was crying tears!! I haven't heard this song in a min and still funny as shit. Russ Parr u da man!!
That part is a sample of some old song, and I can't remember which one... UPDATE: "Everybody Raid the Dancefloor" by Lakeside. It's in a comment further down.
I was a sophomore in high school when this came out. EVERYBODY, even some teachers were talking about it! It was played so much it played out, but time and UA-cam has given it new life! 🤣
Listening to Rumors and said...wait, yall remember look at all these roaches! I didn't know it was a real song with a whole video! 😂I thought we made it up as kids!
How I so remember, even 28 years later, when this song was played at my high school's Halloween dance on the evening of Thursday, October 30, 1986 (when I was in Grade 11) at Sir Wilfrid Laurier Collegiate Institute out in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada. I also get a kick at 1:30 in the video when the animated roach blows a raspberry at Bobby Jimmy as well.
The house is mine, I ain't got time for roaches over here, came home from a hard day's work and found they drank all my beer. Think I was in seventh grade when this was out as a spoof of Rumors from the same year. I remember hearing Roaches on the radio.
Correct. It was a parody of Rumors from Timex Social Club. My Mom had the 33 Single for Rumors, My Stepdad, then her Steady Boyfriend had Roaches on '33. Both were Twenty Three in '86. I was 3 and half.
I remember when I was a kid, my Momma had this VHS tape where she had recorded a bunch of music videos on BET from around 1986. That was the first time I saw this video, being huge fan of West Coast hip hop, little did I know at the time that these guys were one of the pioneers.
Finally found it.. the song where they say “swimming in the toilet bowl, peeing in the pool, eating leftovers is the golden rule I’m a hip-hop roach and I’m raising hell when I’m up in New York or down in LL”..???
"Did you hear the one about Michael? They say his roaches are gay I tried to fumigate to make them straight but they just stayed that way" I died on that one Hahaha
Went over to a friends cousin house to smoke before the club.Had a ICE COLD beer with me, opened it up, took a sip, and then sat it down. Could not have been two minutes before I decide to take another sip. At least five adult roaches and a baby roach was drinking my beer. Thought about this song as I watched the roaches get off my beer. I told'em that's their beer now.
We had the exterminators in today to do a proactive spray (4 hours, clear out of the house kind of spray) I was at my friend's house and played this song over the speaker into my apt. It was the funniest thing ever.
This is my all-time favorite 80s throwback Jam song I still listen to it thank God I grew up in the 80s because I was born in 82 so now I'm 37 years old what is still my favorite all-time throwback Jam song this is a silly song about roaches but he's right you better stop them roaches from running around!!
Timex Social Club must have had strong ties with BJ since both songs came out at that exact same time. They were both considered 1hit wonders 2. I also remember that BJ & Critters had their first jam year before in fall 1985 with "We like Ugly Women". I considered that jam theme song of Halloween 1985! oh well, "Rumors & Roaches" 2 great 1 hit wonder jams of summer '86.
BJ and the Critter were a San Fernando Based Band and one of the Earliest that got wide Distribution on an Indie Label when at the time, Indie meant death to your Record Career. Big Butt Came out in the Summer of 1985, "We Like Ugly Women" was played in the L.A. Area during late '84. Timex Social Club dropped "Rumors" around May of 1986, "Roaches" Hit in July.
If you are chasing down a roach in your home or waiting for one to hit the sink then you are going to need the exact same music in dirty Harry when he is chasing people through town .
I remember this song from radio station 96x in miami. They played this song on repeat for the last hour or something before the radio station became power96
The wording is wrong. Did you hear the one about tina Who's sloppy as a moose She got some raid, then she sprayed They drank it like orange juice Did you hear the one about michael They say his roaches are gay I tried to fumigate to make 'em straight But they just stayed that way

This absolutely warms my soul.
My wife and I first saw this at a disco in Germany, maybe 1986. It's still funny.
Just the same as I did when I was young, I laughed so hard, so loud that it gave me a migraine. Nostalgia is one helluva drug.
I used to sing this to my mom HAAHAHAAHAHAAHAA

A parody of "Rumors" by Timex Social Club. I was in 5th grade at the time and we used to laugh so much talking about this "Roaches" song in class.
