They just started filming season 2 so I'm aftaid it may not be done by November.
They definitely ended it the way they did to leave room for season 2; it wasn't renewed right away.

The sword bothered me more than Weems dying. That sword was way too long to be practical. A sword of that length would need to be thicker and broader and a lot heavier. Otherwise, it's pretty much guaranteed to break. It would also be very awkward to wield. And if the other aspects of the sword matched the length, then it would have been way too heavy for most people to use. Maybe its nitpicking, but that sword just bothered me way too much.
