- Mark Blyth, Eastman Professor of Political Economy at Brown University, joined Dan to reflect on the appointment of Chris Wray as the FBI Director, the continued investigations into Russian meddling, and the "America first" attitude.
I like Mark Blyth.
Me too.
His talks on the credit crisis are amazing. He's got a gift
I love listening to a Mark Blyth, he always makes me think, even if it is ideas that go against that my political thinking.
Professor Blyth starts at 5:15
Bethany Hunt thanks
Wow its one thing to have subtitles, but do not use one of those automatic speech recognition algorithms to do so. If you want us to better understand Mark, then it doesn't help to not read what he's saying correctly.
Mark Blyth is a genius. The person who forced us to watch these captions, not a genius.
Can you please make the subtitles optional? I can hardly watch this like this. It's distracting how much they lag behind the conversation.
7:56 - he's talking about Warren's interview with Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks
adamwebb241 yeah caught that Adam. That EW interview was a fucking bomb.
Warren showed her true colors when she failed to support Bernie in the primary.
He said Russia tried to hack the infrastructure a couple of times, can he please provide sources, where can I read about this?
Elizabeth Warren answering "that Russia thing" was her interview with Cenk of TYT, wasn't it? That's what he's referring to?
"It's Wrestlemania..." Yes it is.
The Donald is fair game, fairly gamed!
To be fair David Cameron did try to negotiate with the EU for a new deal and came back with little change. Even some pro-EU people thought he came back with little from the negotiations.
I was on the fence before Cameron's negotiation and pretty much made up my mind to vote to leave on the basis of: _"the EU is unreformable, do I want our economic future to be part of an unreformable institution?.. naa"_
Quite frankly they were fed up with the UK always moaning and demanding opt outs and special treatments.. His visit was a shambles because he was an ineffectual politician and he was pandering to the extreme elements within the Tory Party emboldened by the spiv Farage!!
Blyth seems to have changed his tune a bit here regarding UK exit from the EU. Prior to the referendum he was very descriptive about the anti-democratic nature of the EUnion but now he is suggesting that the UK is mistaken to pursue seperation from it. Lose 1 trust point and tell us who got in your ear boy.
I think it's more nuanced than that. His position here seems to be about the lack of foresight involved in the stages following the exit, whereas being supportive of the exit from the EU in itself isn't exactly the same thing.
Just because he pointed out the flaws in the EU especially the Euro System he never advocated the UK leaving. What he did do was explain why the vote went the way it did.. It was the most dishonest and racist "campaign" if you could call it that ....I have ever witnessed in the UK esp in England and played on the xenophobia within the English psyche!
Scotland voted remain!!
Yea I'm not really interested in co-operating with republicans. I get his point and I'm sure they could maybe find an area of bi partisan agreement but it's VERY slim.
more talk no answer.
I am sorry. First time listening to this interviewer... he is terrible. Why would you waste a brilliant mind of Dr. Blyth taliking gossip. Do the damn work and ask him about the Political/Economic consequences of policies!
He seems Progressive enough, but really unprepared and or intellectually outclassed.
I haven't yet watched a video where Blyth wasn't head and shoulders above anyone else speaking, and I've watched quite a few. It's best when the interviewer doesn't pretend to understand but just shuts up and lets him take the mic. I wish there were a panel discussion with him, Yanis Varoufakis, Elinor Ostrom, Slavoj Žižek, Asher Edelman, Elon Musk, and Birgitta Jónsdóttir. I think maybe this line-up would carve new territory.
Actually I found this refreshing and added another dimension to Mark...
The Pyat -99% agree with all you stated... but Zizek doesn't do well in groups. Still love him through!
Kenneth Leak yeah it's like he's trying to be cool or something. made me cringe
The Pyat I would like a pannel discussion with Blyth, Richard Hudson and Steve Keen.
If the Comey meeting was in the Oval Office, we should not subpoena the White House for tapes, we should subpoena the Kremlin. Kislyak has to have dropped about 500 listening devices.
I think Blyth drank the Kool aid too.
He still makes far more sense than anyone else opening his mouth in the public media sphere.
Nope. Just Irn Bru.
