It is unfortunate that Wang Hao never won the gold after making it to the finals three times, but what is really sad is that Wang Liqin never made it to the Olympics finals although he may arguably be the best player of that era.
For all of you crying for Wang Hao's not getting a gold let me remind you that ranking wise he was behing Ma Long in 2012 (was third, Ma was second). Only due to Ma's lost from some non Chinese players it was decided that Wang should go instead as someone who is more experienced. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
really miss the days when penhold was still as competitive (if not more) in TT. Japan and Korea hardly have any penhold in their national team and in the Chinese team even Xu Xin is ageing and is no longer as competitive as most of his shakehand teammates. Don't know whether there will be any new good penhold players.

I didn't know that poor Wang Hao got silver in 3 consecutive Olympic Games. That is in a 12-year span. He should have won against both Ryu Seung Min and Zhang Ji Ke. Wang Hao just choked.
I'm not that sure that he choked, or maybe just against Ma Lin. He just couldn't surpass himself like his oponents did. Ryu Seung Min never played again the way he played at the olympics, and Zhang Ji Ke was probably the most "clutch" (as they say in basketball) player ever.

But I remember the final against Wang Hao, and you could clearly see WH freezing, like "What the hell is happening ?", between almost each point during the second half of the match. Although RSM was just unexpectedly good against a 20 years old WH that day. ZJK was much more than just an over achiever, he would have done even better without his back injuries. But yes, he was never better than during those big events.

Now that i think back seeing this..waldner must be the oldest player to reach the olympic finals, damn..that was amazing right..i mean he was 35 that time (for 2000 olympics final), lol..compared to other finals they were mostly in their early 20s or maybe late 20s..and liu guoliang was the youngest i guest..he was 20 when he won...wang hao was also 20 when he fought rsm, but just not lucky..hahaha..
