The Scorpio is probably the best of the best... But so far since January I have had no problems. I park my bike next to a night club and people used to touch my bike, lean on it, and a few times got on it to take pictures. Since I have had the alarm, it has prevented all that from happening. The rain triggers the microwave sensor..and the LED light sometimes stays on but I think it's my fault. All in all it's awesome. I've installed four on my friends bike already:)
The Scorpio is by far the best but also the most expensive. This alarm has worked flawlessly every time. I park it in front of clubs.. when ppl stand too close.. it gives a warning signal and it vibrates my remote. Rain is a pain with the proximity sensor but thats common with most alarms. I would recommend this.
Quite honestly, this is a 1st for me. I have since this video installed 40+ alarms on mostly Hondas... they are probably the most easiest bikes to install this alarm on. Other than one unit being bad from the factory.. there hasn't been issues like the one you have described. Double check your installation. Make sure your unit is properly grounded.
I had this alarm around a year and a half now and I always keep the remote attached to the key, have done since day - I use it as a mini clock for my bike :) - not had any issues yet.
this is because when the key is turned it connects two wires to power, one wire which runs direct to the cdi and the other which powers ignition circuit and electrics. you have one brown wire which you currently have tapped into the later wire, but youll need to also extend that power to the cdi wire too
@kawaskins ... it is always recommended to use a battery tender if you're not riding for weeks or more... but the alarm uses very little battery consumption... it depends on the charge of your battery.
The micro wave aka proximity sensor is included. You can toggle it on or off using the remote. To adjust the sensitivity use the dial on the sensor itself. You have to play with it to adjust it to your needs. Rain makes it alarm but that happens with every brand. Try to install it near plastic more than metal. The less metal interfearance, the better.
beautiful bike bishop.... I know you said in the video that you did not hook up the remote start function , but do you know is there any safety features the prevent someone just rolling away without a key? will it start in the wheel lock position? or is something like i have in my truck that when you touch the clutch or brake it dies? please give feed back , and again , love your bike very clean.....
@JDarrII : that feature is determined (only) by your bikes settings. most bikes won't start if it's in gear. some bikes won't start but the engine cranks (enough that the bike can lurch forward enough for it to come off the kick stand) Honestly, most people don't usually have issues, but I hate leaving my bike parked in neutral that's why I don't use auto start. SF had tooo many hills.
The only way I can think of adding an extra sensor if tapping into the existing sensor. The unit doesn't have extra slots to plug in "extra" accessories. The siren is pretty standard so I'm assuming you can plug in an after market siren of you don't like the the original one. Keep in mind the chirpping I'd only the warning. The actual siren gets louder and changes tones.
BTW.... When ur not sure about what wire to connect/cut/or splice... i used a razor to cut a little of the plastic off the bikes wires to expose the wire underneath. Prehistoric as it sounds.. It works. A cheap multi-meter from Radio Shack helps too.
I just installed this on my Blackbird. I have another SPY (without a pager) on my other bike so installing it was a breeze but as I was wondering about the brown wire. Did you connect it (the one you connect to the ignition on wire). I don't like the reminder beep when you turn off the ignition so I cut the write. However, the led light doesn't reset itself if the alarm has gone off. I also don't like the auto re-arm.Other than the the alarm is great and the range is terrific.
@bishop6 how many perimeter sensor do you have on it? cuz i have only 1,if you do how many, and how and where did you connected them. I didn't know you could install 2? guess I will have to change my sensor position now cuz I've seen ppl touch the bike and alarm didn't go off, by the way I have tried to set the sensitivity on my alarm but nothing happen?? tks, you did a good job in this post, tks for your help also.
@SickK8GSXR600 : Yeah, it sounds like its a wiring issue. If yo have a voltage meter, you can try that or just check the connections. I'm running two LED lights ( spliced together) and have had zero problems. Make sure your wires aren't pinched somewhere if the connection seems good. A cheap voltage meter will help in that regards. Good luck.
@Maui330 the 5000m means the amount of distance that the remote will detect any attempted theft or harm, remote will work up until about 50m, any further than that and arming, disarming, and remote starting wont work
I installed it myself. I say it took about 2 hours or so. I was well prepared with extra wires, tools, zipties, alcohol wipes, electrical tape, wire connectors. Don't forget to bring an mp3 player to help pass the time..lol
the micro wave sensor on ALL ALARMS will go off when it rains.. There is a feature on the remote that lets u disable the micorwave sensor. the screen on your remote should look like this : [CD] if it's blinking it means its armed if it's not blinking, it's off.
I fumbled with that for awhile and decided to just cut and splice. I used the western union method (google it) and on some wires I used quick connects in case I wanted to unplug them. Use whats best for you. The T-taps hi read aren't too reliable.
Beautiful bike man! love that colour too! Just wanted to say thanks for making this video, it is by far the best review video I have seen, I will be picking one of these up in the near future.
@blurei4 : umm.. the microwave sensor has only one possible connection.. check the end of the wire on the sensor.. it can ONLY attach to one of the plugs on the main unit.
i wana fit this on my honda cb1000r thanks for the vid =) very good commentry, very clear, and i seen alarm spy5000 2 way on ebay . have you had any problems with it ? im really tempted to buy it.
I think it is related to the way honda blinkers relay works. In the end I disconnected one of the alarm blinker wires (the right side one). Now normal blinker function works ok but the blinker alarm functions are of course blinking the left front/back only Although I can see the build quality is not so great it is working ok of course this alarm system is a battery drainer so I probably have to top it in charge once a week although I ride everyday
I bought this alarm, asked the bikeshop to put it on for me unfortunately its nowhere as sensitive as yours. the shock alarm only works when I hit the rear of my bike around the rear seat, the microwave sensor only works when i sit on the bike. Do you have any suggestion I can move the brain/microwave sensor around? Also which one is the front and rear of the microwave alarm? Is it the side with the sensor sensitivity adjuster? Or the one without it? Also the bike shop refuse to connect the CDI wire because they claimed that there were users who spoilt their CDI with the alarm system and they dont wanna risk their business. What do you think? P.S i'm riding a 06 YZF-R6
in order to keep costs low, they most likely didn't invest too much in the remotes. Use it as a learning lesson. My remotes are shrink wrapped to prevent moisture and dirt. I NEVER have them on the keychain on the bike... the vibrations and bumping around eventually will cause problems. They're not too expensive to replace either.
double check your wiring connections.. sounds like you have a short or another wire "touching" something exposed. The blinkers use only the two stock wires associated with your turn signals. Let me know how it goes.
auto arm is a built in feature and can't be deactivated. BUT you can turn work around it. Simply once it autoarms.. disarm it with the remote, and start your bike for a one second then turn off ur bike. the autoarm won't come on again.
overall it has been working ok. You can feel it is a battery drainer even with the prox sensor disconnected fro mthe plug. But no wonder as it has quite a comms range to the remote. The single most lacking feature is the impossibility of turning off the auto re-arm, its time is way too short (about 20 secs?) funny enough on a few time if you turn off the alarm then right away turn off again twice in rapid succession it does not re-arm, but I´m still trying to confirm this experiment
i have my alarm unit mounted on the side of my bike behind my fairings and it has been exposed to the rain and car washes. I ride year round and it has not failed. I did however get the remote wet and it went dead.. a few days later with a hair dryer and it was working again.
@flipmode00 : Sorry, been out of town for awhile. I only have the one perimeter sensor that came with it. You can adjust the sensitivity from the unit itself. You can turn the perimeter sensor on and off using the remote. On the remote it called "CD" on the display. My sensor works awesome, sometimes too good that I have to turn it off. Rain sets it off for some reason but the manual warns about it. Just try different settings and locations til u find a good set up for your needs.
The remotes are a bit sub par too, - the remote battery cover is taken out too easily I see a wear problem in the future and will have to resort to tape to keep it together - although new I notice dirt already showing on the display (no rubber membrane display insulation)
the screw on the unit is for sensitivity. Sounds like maybe ur proximity sensor is in a bad location. On my bike, u see i just barely kicked my front tire and the alarm worked. Try relocating the prox. sensor. good luck
Hi does the Main Module & the Microwave Sensor needs to be apart, like U have them. Fixed on an FJR13, had both under Rear Seat. Izzit ok, will it affect the detetion...? THANKZ...
Did you have any issues with the alarm draining the battery when you're not using the motorcycle for a few days ? Also did the shock and proximity sensors come bundled or did you have to buy thems eparately ? Thanks.
Thanks.. it's a KTM RC8 1190CC. This is the original model which is faster and longer than the production model. it has been upgraded with the 2011 RC8R engine and club race kit.
@Bryandoesntknow07 .... the alarm will go off... not just a warning... a slight bump will trigger the warning, a hard bump or fall will trigger the alarm.
greetings" every 3-5 minutes alarm still firing...so i put it always n silince for not disturbing any one...but how about me it always vibrate the remote...what is the posible problem.....something i can adjust or need to reset the remote were i can find the reset setting...it there posible problem in wiring? Any comment apreciated....Thank u Sir...God blessed us...
@kparada4 : It wasn't too difficult at all. Don't let all the wires intimidate u. The red goes to power, the short black is ground and you basically have a working alarm. The rest are accessories such as your parking lights, mircowave sensor, remote start, etc. Just work one wire/one pair at a time and b4 u kno it, you're done. Good luck and hit me up if you run into any troubles.
Can you set up the remote start to only work if you have the bike in neutral? That way if you forget and leave it in gear, when you hit the remote to start the bike it won't do anything ?
Hi I'm trying to decide between this and the datatool red which is thatcham 1. Where does the baret 5000 stand with insurance rating ? I like this spy alarm!
@flipmode00 : I have my perimeter sensor in my rear cowling... I've also installed some inside the left front fairing near where a person would stand if they were about to get on the bike. The sensor is powerful and adjustable so anywhere is fine... Test a few locations b4 u permanently mount it. The antennae is water proof so as long as it's mounted securely u should have zero issues with it. The more metal its near, the stronger the signal.
Hi. Bike looks great and the alarm looks like it works a treat. I was considering the Scorpio SR-I900 until I saw your post. It's practically the same but the Spy 5000 is less than half the price!!! I'm not complaining but i'd like to know if you've had any trouble with it and is it still working fine as I'm a strong believer in 'you get what you pay for' Please message back
@rowdyrahz83 : You can either install it or not... there's no partially. I had it installed but wasn't comfortable because you have to disable the CDI unit. ( Meaning, my bike has a computer chip key and I would have to disable that feature which I didn't want to do.) Plus, I've heard too many horror stories from other riders that had remote start. It looks cool but the only time I want my bike running is when I'm near/next to it.
Can you turn the vibration sensor off and keep the Proximity sensor on? It's quiet windy in the UK, and we have a lot of chavs with obnoxious exhausts which sets off my current alarm..
@SportsSavage : I've never heard of an alarm that kills ur battery like that. If u hav a decent battery and u drive ur bike often there should be no problems at all. Once a neighbor told me my alarm went off all day because kids were playing near it and my proximity sensor was on high...anyways, the bike started up just fine.
What a sweet RC8!! Very nice man but can you tell me where you got this from? I know you say ebay but there are a lot of scammer vendors out there attempting to sell this with one control and the the other as an add on. if you could provide a name or something that would be great thanks
truthfully, if I had the money to spare, I would have bought the Scorpio... BUT having bought the SPY5000 I have no regrets. The self arming feature can be annoying until you get used to it. I saw a Scorpio i900 on Craigslist yesterday for $200 ..if it's still there, get it... Otherwise, the Spy alarm is good enough, especially for the money. Goodluck.
is the remote pager loud enough to wake you up if something is happening to your bike at night while you are sleeping? what about is someone cuts the alarm out from the bike? will the alarm go off?
Hiya, I've got the RC8 and I wondered if you could help. How much cutting/modding was needed, is it approved, could me as a novice install it? I'm not too bad but don't want to rip the entire bike apart to do it. Cheers in advance :) Matt
Hi there, nice ride by the way!!Could you help me disable the auto-arm?i know that if you press the disarming button twice it turns off but there is another way that it stays off forever, I just can’t remember!!Thank you!!
using the remote. press and hold the on and off buttons to get into settings... toggle til you see this : [CD] if it's blinking it means its armed if it's not blinking, it's off.
....I jus received this alarm yesterday after waiting a few weeks (in production)...I took a quick look at it ... I'm not going to install the remote start jus like u...I jus had a quick question ... I read in a post that the alarm actually armed itself while the bike was moving ...is that possible? or prolly wrong connections was made
Sounds like your bike won't turn over if the kick stand is down. Some bikes like the Ducati have this issue even though the bike is in neutral. Blalance your bike carefully against a wall or poll and then try starting it with the kickstand up using the remote start. Let me kno ur results.
hey mate how many wires did you use to to turn the motor on i used one wire connected it to the starter solenoid but it wont start also how did you get those indicators light hooked up to it thank you :)
sorry to bother you but ive fitted one of these alarms and its good but i can only get the remote start to turn the engine over without starting, as if its not getting a spark, the bike is a 2004 gsf600 on carbs, ive connected blue wire to starter relay, brown wire to my lights as they come live as soon as ignition is turned on, all other wires are as instructed but what am i missing for the remote start? thanks in advance!
@jdbeyond-Its almost impossible 2 run ur battery down with any alarm system. If u drive ur bike regularly, and the alarm isnt constantly ringing, it shouldnt cause u any problems. I'm running this alarm system AND a twelve piece L.E.D. street glow set up and my battery is fine. Recheck your connections, make sure it's properly grounded. Also have any shop do a voltage drain test on ur battery.. With the alarm active and with the alarm not connected. Good luck... Let me kno ur results.
no issues at all... I actually took it off, brought it with me to afghanistan and used it on my locker.. LOL (with a motorcycle battery :0 )I'm back.. reinstalled it and everything works fine :)
You think this would work on a moped? My friends moped that was tuned for about 3000$ got stolen yesterday and he had just ordered an alarm, so I'm pretty much in need for a good alarm will it work on a moped??
hey Bishop, I have a gsx-r 600 where is the best place to install the perimeter sensor because it said in the manual not to install it near metal?? and isn't the antenna will get dirty where you put it? cuz I put mine inside the rear light cover to the metal.
hi, so there is a setting where its silent alarm right? so if ppl get too close or shook my bike, only the signal lights would go out without the sound going off? cuz i live in HK, parking can be bit packed, people would hate me if everytime they walk close it goes off loud lol, a visual warning should suffice
hi. i have the same alarm on my xj6 and was wondering if its possible to turn off the alarm signal noise. when u press the lock key twice the alarm is activated and with sound, and it does *bip* *bip*, its that noise i want to turn off. makes my head hurt in the morning.. thanks
I have a problem with the siren. All was working fine for 6 monts and yesterday the siren doesnt work. All other stuff (blinks, remote control arm/disarm etc) works fine but the siren doesnt work. Any idea what might happenned? Maybe i disable siren from remote? Thanks.
I've answered this question like a dozen time here.. LOL Hold the lock and unlock buttons down for a sec.... press the LOCK button 5 times .. you'll see what looks like the letters C and D. if it's blinking, its off... if its not blinking... its on.
Just bought one of these and did the basic connection to the bike just for alarm. I unlocked the alarm and as I was putting the bike back together it was triggering the alarm? Any help would be great Thanks
The Scorpio is probably the best of the best... But so far since January I have had no problems. I am still using the alarm.. I have the flashing lights hooked to my LED street glow effect lights and it's insane!! Have no issues after Jan. 2011

@rmc9984 - Sorry, I'm just getting back to you. The Blue wire, I believe goes to your CDI... that's the immobilizor. You need this for remote start.
what bike is your bike??? its the most sweet bike i have ever seen!!!
Goodluck.
Does this drain the battery of the bike? Like if you don't start the bike for a while would it drain it to not start?
Good video really like the spy 5000m. Is your alarm system still working like when u first bought it. Is it reliable. Or any problem's. Thanks
is the remote pager loud enough to wake you up if something is happening to your bike at night while you are sleeping?
what about is someone cuts the alarm out from the bike? will the alarm go off?
Hiya, I've got the RC8 and I wondered if you could help. How much cutting/modding was needed, is it approved, could me as a novice install it? I'm not too bad but don't want to rip the entire bike apart to do it.
Cheers in advance :)
Matt
how has this alarm system been holding up over the years. have you encountered any notable issues ?
Hi there, nice ride by the way!!Could you help me disable the auto-arm?i know that if you press the disarming button twice it turns off but there is another way that it stays off forever, I just can’t remember!!Thank you!!
Tasos Zavradinos συγνωμη ρε φιλε βρηκες μηπως ακρη με αυτο που λες γιατι το πεδευω και δεν μπορω να το κανω?Ευχαριστω
DAMN I LIKE THIS THING
Nice ride.
Can you still put other locks (disc, U, chain) and a cover over the bike without tripping the alarm?
it auto changes depending on the type of alarm trigger.. shock, impact, someone trying to start it, etc...
Thats a good question!! so where's the answer bishop6??
using the remote. press and hold the on and off buttons to get into settings... toggle til you see this : [CD] if it's blinking it means its armed if it's not blinking, it's off.
....I jus received this alarm yesterday after waiting a few weeks (in production)...I took a quick look at it ...
Let me kno ur results.
hey mate how many wires did you use to to turn the motor on i used one wire connected it to the starter solenoid but it wont start also how did you get those indicators light hooked up to it thank you :)
on the main unit there is a dial, you turn it clockwise- there are two for the proximity and touch sensor- youll figure it out
@kolozebate: I agree.. since the video, I have relocated the antaena.. it is now under the rear cowling.
I am about to buy this alarm. Any regrets from yourself on it? is there something equivalent that is a better deal? thanks for your response
sorry to bother you but ive fitted one of these alarms and its good but i can only get the remote start to turn the engine over without starting, as if its not getting a spark, the bike is a 2004 gsf600 on carbs, ive connected blue wire to starter relay, brown wire to my lights as they come live as soon as ignition is turned on, all other wires are as instructed but what am i missing for the remote start?
thanks in advance!
Yea how's the alarm been?
no issues at all... I actually took it off, brought it with me to afghanistan and used it on my locker.. LOL (with a motorcycle battery :0 )I'm back.. reinstalled it and everything works fine :)
is this the first remote out of the box or is this the second one you tried to configure?
Hey. How to disable arming reminder? I did not find this information in the instructions.
You think this would work on a moped? My friends moped that was tuned for about 3000$ got stolen yesterday and he had just ordered an alarm, so I'm pretty much in need for a good alarm will it work on a moped??
hey Bishop, I have a gsx-r 600 where is the best place to install the perimeter sensor because it said in the manual not to install it near metal?? and isn't the antenna will get dirty where you put it? cuz I put mine inside the rear light cover to the metal.
hi, so there is a setting where its silent alarm right? so if ppl get too close or shook my bike, only the signal lights would go out without the sound going off?
cuz i live in HK, parking can be bit packed, people would hate me if everytime they walk close it goes off loud lol, a visual warning should suffice
hahaha... thanks. I love my bike and that 900rr u have. I used to own that bike and it was and still is a beast!!!
hi. i have the same alarm on my xj6 and was wondering if its possible to turn off the alarm signal noise. when u press the lock key twice the alarm is activated and with sound, and it does *bip* *bip*, its that noise i want to turn off. makes my head hurt in the morning..
LOL
Hold the lock and unlock buttons down for a sec.... press the LOCK button 5 times .. you'll see what looks like the letters C and D. if it's blinking, its off... if its not blinking... its on.
Hello, Spy 5000m includes sock sensor AND proximity sensor !? or is optional parts ?
Just bought one of these and did the basic connection to the bike just for alarm. I unlocked the alarm and as I was putting the bike back together it was triggering the alarm? Any help would be great
Thanks
bummer i cant find that alarm system anywhere i looked on the website in the description and even googled it
Hi, any experience on installing this on a Honda Zoomer/Ruckus?
