    “even though the amount of colors it can produce is infinite, it still can not produce all possible colors” that screwed me up

    • @PinkShades
      @PinkShades 6 років тому +526

      It's easier to visualize on a number line. There are an infinite amount of decimal numbers between 0 and 1, but that range is also finite. It's simultaneously both infinite and not depending on the context. If each colored laser contains a range of possible values from 0 (off) to 1 (fully lit) then really, the amount of "colors" a single laser diode can also be infinite. I think the more correct term is combinations, not colors, because everything you see from a combination of RGB lasers is still not the full spectrum. It's almost like the difference between digital audio and analog audio. _Almost._

      @Tetrahedrony I wasn't replying to you. I know what you said, and I don't care what you said. It was stupid. First, black isn't a color, it's the absence of light. Second, 0 to 1 is not a list, it's a range. You can probably find your IQ in it if you look hard enough.

      it is an unusual pronunciation, but I suspect it's the correct way now that I think about it.
      Every other in* word is literally the word with 'in' prefixed to it, yet finite is pronounced fi-nite yet when it's infinite we change it to inf-in-ite, for some reason the break in the word moves from fi to fin which doesn't make sense, every other word i can think of the syllables don't change (valuable/invaluable, appropriate/inappropriate, audible/inaudible etc...)

    When I was 12 or 13, I built a Lissajous projector out of nothing more than two long-throw loudspeakers, two pieces of broken mirror, and a bit of household adhesive tape. At its heart, I had a Metrologic ML-800 HeNe laser that had an output of a staggering 0.5mW. :-O

The laser source that I used was a Metrologic ML-800 HeNe laser, and I drove the speakers from the spkr. out receptacles on my JVC RC-M70 ghetto blaster. If the music being played through it had good stereo separation, some pretty wild patterns could be generated from this contraption. :-)

      I do too! In fact, I know all the powers of 2 up to 2^16 in decimal (in binary, I know them all!) (1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048, 4096, 8192, 16384, 32768 and 65536), and a few others like 2^20 = 1048576 and 2^24 = 16777216. I also know number e up to 15 decimal places! e ≈ 2.718281828459045. Go along and check it! There's a cool trick for this: there's a curious pattern at the start: 2.7, then 1828 twice, then 459045, the angles of a right isosceles triangle.

    Hey there Styro I was wondering if you ever messed with erbium doped optics? worked in fiber optic networking, multimode and single mode systems for anything from LAN to long distance undersea fibers. We used this stuff called "erbium doped fiber" you could put in a signal say 3db and on the other end of the spool of fiber it would come out stronger say 10db. Wh would have to make an attenuation loop to get it back in a range the sensor could use. Just a thought?

    *Styropyro:* _This RGB laser_ _can produce infinite colors!_
    *The Planck Length:* _Am I_ _a joke to you?_
    If you don’t get this joke, here’s a quick oversimplified physics lesson:
    The Planck Length is the smallest distance physically possible in the universe, and by the very fact that there is a non-zero smallest possible distance, that means these lasers can produce an overwhelmingly large range of colors, *_but it’s_*
    *_still finite._*
    *TL;DR The range of colors* *on these lasers is very*
    *large, but not infinite*
    *(but to our puny minds'* *comprehension it*
