She bravely tried to defend her title in 1988 but was up against one of the biggest and most obvious drug takers ever, she must have been gutted that her rival was never caught. I suppose that Olympics had its biggest story with Ben Johnson, but everyone knows there were many more.
matty t MUST WE COMPARE EVERY SUCCESSFUL WOMAN TO BEYONCE? Yes EVELYN was the definition of "THE SHIT" , but don't take away from Beyonce to give praise to someone else. Beyonce #1 and she didn't get naked to do it! Like Evelyn she too has natural talent boo😘
Thank you olimpsportas2 for sharing. One thing I noticed here is that the sprinters were focused more on form and speed and not their hair (extension nowadays) color or nail polish color. Flo Jo probably initiated those trends ;).
It's just qualifying for the next round. Ashford was a nobody at the time, Boyle was one of the great female sprinters of the day. All eyes would have been on her.
Interestingly how Ashford always outperformed the doped up Marlies Gohr in the Olympics. In fact, in 76 Gohr finished behind Ashford and appropriately enough Ashford and Gohr anchored their respective relay teams in the final of the 4x100 meter relay at the 1988 Olympics and Ashford smoked her in the stretch to win the gold.
Marlies Goehr did not take drugs. As a teenager (Marlies Oelsner) she found out about the doping after being given the drug ONCE and refused them after that. Check your facts dickhead before you jump on the doping bandwagon like all the others looking for excuses why their own athletes weren't good enough.
@@ghengisful How do you? How come that she wasn't sent back home like other athletes who ever tried to drop out of the doping system? Do you really think it was possible for ANYONE to contradict the orders of the communist GDR Stasi authorities? You must very naive or ill informed.
Such a pity Raylene Boyle was struck out with a false start that she was later proved to not guilty of in the 200 meters. The gold would have been hers.
My favorite female sprinter of all times!!!!
Me too!!!!
Mine too
She and Shelly-Ann. Remember Evelyn's mind-blowing anchor leg at Helsinki?
Same here. No one except for, maybe, Marlene Ottey beats her in the longevity dept. They ran at very high levels for a very long time.
Mine too, she was a wonderful athlete!
Reason I ran track and field was because of her. I love her
Agreed Stanley. She's fantastic!
Thanks for this. So awesome to see the history, start to finish.
Rare and precious video.
A naturally gifted no drug athlete.
Agreed
Absolutely pure mechanical spiritual talent. Would of won 1980 Olympics with her 84 title. The WR is a farce

A loooot more.....
Of course, why would an American athlete ever take drugs?
Just a kid who got a terrible start but didnt lose her composure and pushed through the line nearly defeating a legend. Shadows of things to come.
Ashford won the heat, watch the video still replay, she ran 11.28 to the second placer 11.29
Looks like she won to me❤
Ashford was a real American badass hero. every young girl should look to her as a hero, not Beyonce or a kardashian.

Erika Vanyal Beyoncé sucks
@ your mother do not love you

The 2 great clean female sprinters of the 70s and 80s...1st and 2nd
Her initials stand for Ever Amazing 🇿🇼
And she one Olympic Gold 16 years later she n Barcelona. She had a great career.
What a beast!
This intro music reminds me of the music played in Meatballs when "The Stomach" enters.
una rimonta pazzesca per la piu' grande velocista natural di tutti i tempi
Ashford win...
Why did they highlight Boyle as the winner of this race, when in the replay Ashford clearly won!
Because they initially though Realene Boyle has won the heat, she was one of the favourites and a 3 time silver medalist at this point.
MrChris Tov they credited her at the end...

Boyle was actually superior at that time and slowed down at the end , saving her energy for next round .
@@brettwilkinson9529 She seemed to ease up at the end.
natural
Greatest female sprinter and closer..
minus all the drug steroid induced athletes. And records .
Just imagine if she had better started
She always had a bit of a delayed reaction and still caught everyone!
The great Raelene Boyle cruising through just enough to qualify.
😅😅😅😅
She qualified in her heat. But Boyle should have been concentrating on her own race.
Boyle was doing just enough to qualify.
Looked like Boyle looked over at EA during the race.

@@ghengisful marlies was doped just like the rest of her teammates

@@ghengisful Even her coach admitted that Marlies Goehr took Oral Turinabol like the other GDR athletes. Don't be a fool.
