The idea that a high fashion designer would take punk rock aesthetic and make it into something despicable to a punk rocker seems like a very cyberpunk thing to me, so I think you nailed the conceptualization. And, as always, a phenomenal end result!
There's also the... I don't know, post punk?.. concept of "wouldn't rebelling against the concept of punk technically be the most punk thing you could do?" which is amusing in a "that's awesome, and also gives me a headache you could split rocks with" kind of way.
the wide variety of your work is definitely one of the biggest appeals of this channel! ur always trying something new! i came for the tutorials but stayed just to see whatever youd make next coz i never know what to expect in the best way. amazing work as always!
I love the neon colours for the highlights. And they finally translated well to the print version which is very difficult, since not everything that looks good on a screen will look good on paper. Amazing work Brandon!
I love your stuff, it's been really inspirational! The white-on-yellow text is pretty hard to read but everything else came out so cool, I love the textures and the low-poly buns.
I always wanted to say, I love the formatting of your videos, it's consistent and looks good and professional. I've always wanted to learn how to make my own videos better, and you're a huge inspiration!
Thanks so much, I really appreciate that! It took me awhile to find my exact style and workflow, but it's fun to explore different formats and gets easier once you find what you like. You should totally give it a try if you're interested! :D
I learned in crafting class that technical drawings where text is rotated to anything that's not the regular horizontal, it should always be rotated in a way that you can read it when you tilt your head to the left shoulder. And I've found myself agreeing with that eversince. I can always read it when it's oriented in a way that I tilt my head left and it's always more difficult when it's oriented so that my head has to tilt right. something to think about
That's interesting, I'd love to understand what it is about that that would make it preferable. It almost feels counter-intuitive since you'd be reading from bottom-to-top in a vertical sense; whereas tilting to the right you're reading from top-to-bottom 🤔😅 Thanks for the insight!
@@BJGpixel I remember thinking the same thing as a kid. At first I simply accepted it as a rule for technical drawings, which is why I'm always a little mad when someone who should know (people who actually learned how to do technical drawings or design) don't know, but like I said it's absolutely easier for me. Perhaps it's different for some people, like how you can only comfortably drink from the tab from one side and not the other
It looked awesome in CRT Time. I mean, it looked great, regardless, but the scan lines really made it pop. The words were actually more legible, as well. Great design!!
dude this is awesome! I've been working on imaginary magazine covers as well but for some reason pixel art for them never would have occurred to me I really hope more of these are in the future :O
Would be cool if a number of pixel artists collaborate and publish a whole digital pixelated magazine. Maybe talk about what they're working on and what they find fascinating.
I love this! Outstanding job, as always. The only little thing that bugs me as a graphic designer is that the white doesn't have enough contrast against the yellow. My screen may be part of the reason for this, but if this were an actual magazine you'd still have to add a bit of a shadow or change the color of the text to make it more readable... Also for accessibility. But don't take this too seriously. I love what you did and I wouldn't dare asking you to change your art. Take care an keep it square, Brandon!
Ok imagine a comic set in this scifi world with pixel based technology and each issue of the comic is disguised as an issue of Square Quarterly magazine which exists only within the world of the comic. It could even be kinda magazine like on the inside with some panels just being advertisments for products in universe or mini articles.
i LOVE this so much! would love a physical pixel art magazine! i think the the white "Square" title doesn't have enough contrast though. maybe magenta would pop more against the yellow? :D
Looks awesome, really thought more blues were going to be needed for the portrait but you got it down in 2. Were you tempted to put more colour or a possible drop shadow on the title? It was gutsy to keep it all white. Still mulling over the solid white between some letters.
Thanks! To be honest I didn't really consider the drop shadow because I liked the flat look. Sometimes an offset pixel shadow can create more pixelated noise than it's worth, but to be fair I didn't actually try! 😅
This reminds me of one of our first Photoshop assignments in highschool which was to design a magazine cover, I had a lot of fun with that one! I really appreciate the focus on the magazine elements in this one, especially on the various typography 🖊️ Super rad outcome too! I think her hair might be my fav element. I liked the detail in the zipper too, after you pointed it out 😆 Can we get pixel vision monocles in this decade, please?
Thanks so much, yeah this ended up being a fun scale to work with for portraits! And that sounds like a great assignment; nice exposure to a variety of things required both in design and the software itself. We never got to do magazines; I only remember having to make lots of fake brochures 😅
Here's an idea: draw pixel art, increase the resolution of the resulting image, and then draw small-scale pixel art of finer detail/texture within each pixel!
Hello! I was wondering if you could give tips on how to record crisp pixel art? Whenever I try to, somewhere between OBS and the video editor and exported file, it always always becomes blurry. A full tutorial on this would be wonderful and is really hard to find, but even just a comment would help a lot as I'm stumped and have found no reliable pipelines ;o; I absolutely love your work!
"Dithering Dilemmas" Actually hilarious if that's in reference to the guy on twitter complaining about modern pixel artist not using dithering and AA correctly or whatever lol.
The cover looks absolutely stunning. But as a graphic designer, I advise you to avoid at all costs using white text on such bright yellow backgrounds (unless you outline it with a dark color), it has very low readability, especially from a distance. Had you used black text it would've been perfect.
"Punk Rock High Fashion" being a paradox depends of your point of view. From a high fashion point of view, its a "bold new concept" or whatever pretentious mumbo jumbo they spew out. From an actual Punk Rock point of view, its an abomination, devoid of anything that actually matter in Punk and would be one of the *least* Punk things possible.
When is this magazine is coming out? I NEED A PIXEL ART MAGAZINE MADE BY Brandon James Greer!!!!!!!!!
Yes!!!! Me to!!!❤
And you know it's gonna be a treasure throve cause he's so meticulous and well-researched.
:D thank Brandon James Geer i love your work!
Honestly, a pixel art focused zine with you as a major contributor would be SICK

I'd love to see these covers each quarter!
Yeah I suppose it could at least become an actual quarterly thing, for cover designs at least! 😅
I think seeing designs for other months/quarters would be neat

I'd really love to see an underwater themed pixel art from you❤
I love it. This came together amazingly well.
Thank you! 👍😎👍

petition for Lospec to release a pixel art magazine
Absolutely signed
my god, the puns.. new years resolution. I love everything about that artwork
Hahaha thanks dude ✌️😎
That was pretty cool. You should do more of this.

I really love the cover girls design its so cool!
loved what you did with the hair feels kinda Spiderverse esque
Really cool design!! I think this character would totally fit in Va-11 Hall-A
Great Idea! You should do like a fanzine! Imo maybe it needs a little more contrast between the white logo and the yellow? Cheers
The tech thing reminds me of a DBZ scouter. This piece is sick
This is really cool, I'm pleased to see other colour styles being used like this.
I also enjoy the idea of having artwork for a pretend Magazine.
I can't wait to move into my new place and get a print of this!
Would love a video with a. Breakdown of your creative process. Like if you collect lots of references I’d love to see those.

man this is such a cool idea and you did great too! also the dithering dilemmas made me chuckle LOL
Thanks so much! Hahaha yes gotta cover the hard hitting issues! 😅
Just gave me an idea to mix zines and pixel art!!! Thanks for the inspiration! 💡❤️
your videos are my comfort space on the internet. thank you! ❤
Well damn now I want a magazine about pixel art and low poly models
Que irado, talvez eu utilize as dicas e ideias do seu canal, seu canal é incrível
I would absolutely subscribe to this magazine!!
This would make a sick poster. I may have to snag a copy
I love the colors Man!

@@BJGpixel Missed opportunity dude. 😂

Have you tried it?
Now we need a tutorial to make a comic book page, but in pixel art

I'd buy it.
hey brandon, do you have interest for the jet set radio series, if yes would be neat if you tried some pixel art about it. Love you work!
how did i miss a brandon upload? also, iis there a link to singup for this
looks very nice but i wish you would have done a bit more with the background instead of leaving it just yellow
love your work mate T_T
Is it just me or does that character slightly resemble Astra from Valorant? Great art by the way!
fuck, love your artwork
"square is the new round"
I would write an article for this magazine lol

god i so want this to be real...
you know, zines are getting back into the scene in a real way... hmmm...
This might be a weird suggestion, but what about doing a Minecraft player skin?
I’ve been wanting to make a pixel style graphic novel using procreate but I don’t know the setting to do this. Does anyone know????
She got that Morning Star haircut
Its called a ZINE!
Maybe you could collab with other pixel art artist and actually make something out of this 👀
Can this be a thing?
