- I made this Wharram pahi 42 liveable after being sat at anchor for 10 years, now I have a dry and cosy hull to live in while I complete the rest of the project.

I've seen this cat lying there for about ten years, every time I drive to work.
Cleaned my shed out today, and found two winches and some other stuff. Brought it to this place, and he and Thomas were there.
Nice to meet them, and hope to help the project along.
Greetings, Gerrit.
That's very nice
I don’t know why but watching your progress cleaning out this boat is strangely satisfying and entertaining. You’re doing a great job
I agree. I found myself wondering when the new video would come just to see the progress.
Me, too! The timing was perfect, i was just starting to hope for a video.
Lol I fully agree 😂❤
I've been hanging out for another video
I agree a good cleaning makes things so refreshing. Watching it is relaxing can watch someone clean all day long.
Let take a moment to appreciate how good Mark is at filming and editing. Music choice, framing, setting up shots and, time-lapse this is all really high production value. It's very impressive.
Cheers mate!
I really like the line up as the song lyric ‘oh yeah’ went with footage of the Saab cup holder opening 😂🎉 well done Mark
Much agreed... and it's freely available to watch at your leisure! Even for unpleasant ingrates!
@@WildlingSailing Hey Dude!
Check out Boat Building-Modified Wharram-Progess top sides on UA-cam.
That thing you picked from behind the switchboard looks like a polypore (mushroom), which means that you have mycelium slowly breaking down the wood where it was attached. You should be able to see a white "web" in the wood. They're beautiful creatures, polypores, but better not have them on your boat... And the fruiting body (which you picked) will come back unless the mycelium is removed.
I think that beam trough needs rebuilding for sure
Dead wood saprophyte .. .. ..
Haha, I had to look it up. Forgot what they're called but yes. Definitely polypore. Good call.
@@joshua3113 I was hoping to see CHAGA growing. lol
Wow
Way to go fella. Thought you were a bit off the edge buying this, but fair play, you're actually getting jobs done and making it, at the least, liveable. Will continue watching with interest.
yeah he's gonna make it happen. Very driven & determined. It will definitely happen
Absolutely 🙏
Please god, get a new mattress mate.
@@VelcorHF
scabies can keep you in shape bro
Also watching someone doing up an almost perfect yacht wouldn't be that interesting. There are loads of videos out there like that.
Mark, it's hard going through a breakup and joining the Wharram family/philosophy and learning to work with wood is a path, a true noble path to self discovery.
I hope you know that these skills you're learning and these experiences are the artistic expression of your life and will be a beautiful part of your story.
🤣
Nothing like being a Sailor to get over a breakup! Saw more guys stronger after getting dear john letters in the Navy! Plus I would love to have a Wharram boat to live on in the Caribbean!
Thanks for the plug Mark! Your new boat is coming along nicely so hopefully I see you out on the water in no time!
I genuinely enjoy your vids, man. hopefully we can sail together at some point
@@WildlingSailing I’m sure we will
@@AlexGoesSailing You could meet up in the Channel's traffic separation zone for a race across to Calais - first one to the hypermarket buys the individual serving four bottles of wine-flavoured anti-freeze for a Euro.
@@xenu-dark-tony would be fun to do a little race!
Top notch, Mark. We are seeing more of the build standard of this boat. It would not have survived if it had not been so well built, and now you have rescued it in time. I am sure it is rewarding for you, but you are earning that reward. Well done !
Just wanted to say that I think your doing a great job of cleaning and organising your boat. Hard work doesn’t go un noticed. You have been working hard and it definitely shows. Keep going, not long before that boat will be where you want it to be. Stay safe ⚓️⛵️🛶💦🌊🐟🦆🎣🏝🐳🐙🏄♂️
Amazing how the Boat has improved with just cleaning. These videos are more interesting than the Sailing ones from last year 👍.
agreed!
by leaps n bounds. It is very intriguing
Just a small tip always wash from top to bottom that way the dirty water running down makes the lower parts easier instead of dirtying them again. Love the boat 👍
That dinghy is awesome! It's a Norwegian Pioner dinghy. They all have double hull and are completely unsinkable, even when they are filled with water😁 Safest dingy ever! The 8 feet is used as safe dinghy for children that need to learn how to row since you do not need to worry about the boat flipping over. The larger ones are widely used as working boats, back and forth between cabins in the fjords. You can never kill them!😅 Drag them over any rock, and they are still fine😅
They also row very well, even against strong winds.
I must agree, I have a pioneer maxi with an outboard motor I got it on my 15th birthday now I'm 40 and the boat still works as good, ilove it♡
@@arthurschuler8906 But how do they row with a salvaged snow shovel instead of oars?
@@MrJhchrist Haha, not that good😁 I guess oars are not on the budget yet..😉 There are wholes to insert new paddle forks(or just tie some loop strings) if he chooses to get some oars😉
@@MrJhchrist He is certainly capable of making a pair
as a lazy sod I would have used a cordless sander with a soft scouring pad to do all that rubbing. Hats off to you and your grafting nature, it looks so much better for a good clean. Like many others, I'm enjoying watching your journey
Must have been very high quality paint used in the interior. Looks so good after cleaning.
I made that note to self it is really good paint on most parts.
i use to be a painter, owned my own company. I used tsp, rinsed it off to prepare anything to be painted. Lots of clients would say at that stage the place doesnt need painting. The tsp would remove oils, grime basically that actually stinks up the place: you just get used to it. Also that grime will eventually work its way to the surface eventually through the fresh paint. A lot of research has gone into paint restoration, preservation if your interested.
I think the Wharram instructions call for the wood to be coated with three layers of epoxy before the paint.
You must be a good film maker if you can make watching you clean interesting. I’m finding it relaxing to watch you do the work! Good to see a shoutout to Alex, his channel deserves more views.
I give it to you. You aren't afraid of hard work, but this is one hell of a mountain to climb. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with this.
You sound so much more positive in this episode, good for You mate.
Dad will sort the engines bless him.
His Dad is a role model for the entire world. If I were a rich man I would give him all my money
Great progress Mark! So satisfying to watch. 👍
Necessity is the mother of invention. Who knew how handy a shovel would be?
I am so glad you will be replacing the mattress as I am sure mold is inside the foam.
Great job so far Mark.
Well done Mark. The holes in your dinghy are purpose built for drainage. All you need are 3 bungs that would normally fit in a Topper or a Laser Dinghy so that the hull can be drained occasionally. Very cheap at most/all Chandlers.
Well done on the clean, a major improvement.
I can tell that you enjoy making the videos because they're good. A highly entertaining channel and an interesting boat. Personally, I never doubted your choice and I look forward to following it's salvation. Good work!
A tip for you Mark, miltons sterilising liquid, or dissolvable tabs. After cleaning spray your surfaces with it, leave for 15 mins, then wipe up. It will kill any mold spores you may have missed and you'll never see mold again if you use it for general cleaning thereafter. Worked a charm on our boat.
Yes. I have heard this before. Good tip !
Hello Mark, you're damn brave, to work in this cold, to clean this cat, but it's all to your credit, to be motivated and persevering...!! Cheer ! it doesn't look in bad condition, apparently, once washed, the paint is sound in places where it hasn't rained... good luck for the rest, you'll make a superb sailboat, I I'm sure...!! Hello from France, Vincent
Fresh cloths. One of life's little pleasures! I can almost feel their softness in my own hands. You're living the dream now, friend!
Honestly, though, it's a joy watching you turn this into a proper boat through sheer force of will and determination! Well done so far!
It’s very therapeutic watching you work Mark!! Great job. 😉
Mark before pounding in that loose pin on the beam, you should check to see if the hulls are lined up and square
Hi just a quick note. The water is freezing cold and if you fell in you would struggle to stay afloat with all your cold weather gear on. Most people drown from falling from a tender and not being able to get back on the boat or to shore. Keep safe and I love the fact that you have bought a project. That's all I have ever done and it's the best way to know your boat. Keep on keeping on and you will succeed. All the best Billy
Out of all the UA-camr building sailing vessels I want to see how this one turns out.
More power to you Mark you got this keep pushing forwards all us Wildlings are with you sir
These videos are a perfect exemplifier of the golden rule of DIY: Do what you can, with what you have, the best you're able.
When I first saw your choice of boat, ⛵ I thought you were, Mad as a Mushroom !!
But you are fast becoming my Hero ! Who knew ? Wishing you all the luck in the world 😃
I think you should do as much rebuilding where the boat is as it's not costing you any fees . In the boat yard , time is money . I love your boat and all it's potential !
Brilliant Mark..so satisfying seeing the boat coming back from the dead...could've watched that all night mate......already anticipating the next installment 👍 👊
Since you have bought this Wharram cat I’ve been looking at other owners and their boats such a intriguing design and history,I now don’t think you’re totally off the wall but a dreamer with a plan so I’m in for the long hall to dream along with you champ good luck
Mark, with regard to those mattress slats,, if you buy some sail makers tape and nail the tape down each side of the slats (copper tacks) whilst they are in their respective positions you will find it easy to take them up or replace them back quickly in correct order when you need access to the storage area below. Just a thought.
Your work is getting neater.
The pins that hold the cross-beam most likely have holes drilled through them to accept either a split pin or an R clip, or possibly even a circlip - but I doubt it at that size.. It will be the through-pin that prevents them from jumping out. If you hammer them down then you will see the hole that was drilled through at the factory.
Your new boards look nice. I would not go for paint or varnish, these chip and crack. I would use Danish Oil which - fun fact - is actually Chinese (Tung Oil). You will need three or four coats. Gives a lovely shiny finish and will soak into the wood to some extent, so not just a surface preparation.
Yes, I would treat the wood before walking on it. Paint, etc can chip. White, wet epoxy can get slippery and still crack w/o fibers - expensive? 😅
Cleaning is great - I would still like to see you using a hand spray bottle like your colleague used last week!
Thx for bringing us along 😊😊😊 Ken
Starting to look really good Mark. Only thing is I have to stop my wife watching the last few episodes with the amount of cleaning you've been doing!! You're making life very difficult for the rest of us..... 🙂
Only going to let my wife watch when he starts sailing
@@NZ.Garner As he's right in the middle of proving: It's all better done solo, with the buddies'n chaps at most, anyway. A suddenly "not happy anymore" sidekick is just too much of a liability for a sailor's life. Just sayin' ....
Have been cleaning boats more than once . Your video made it almost possible to smell the old boat air . Keep up the good work !
Well done Mark, i realize there's a load of work to do, and i think you're the right man for the job. The boat looks much nicer. I enjoy your video's so much. Keep up the great videos and the great work.
I’m pleased to see you enjoy Alex Goes Sailing too. You lads are such straightforward wholesome sailing entertainment.
There is something very ASMR about watching you clean the mess up, keep going one day at a time 🙂
Been watching you from your last cat start. I am 67..my heart tells me to follow MY dreams, passions, and goal. That takes compassion, passion, a vision, alot of work, commitment, and learning lessons along the way. As an oldhead, I enjoy your drive and dream. Can't wait to see you somewhere along your waters journeys. Dont Stop bro.
Keep up the good work and positive outlook.. most people are afraid of being in a situation where they're not surrounded in comfort and luxury but in reality it doesn't take long for a person to get used to living without alot of things. As long as it's dry and warm with a place to stretch out when you sleep you can adapt to the rest
Mark, Once again a wonderful and interesting video - love it!. It's exciting to see the emergence of the beautiful boat you're uncovering, one job at a time. She's well made!! And you are making her shine. Congrats and thank you for bringing us along. You're by far, one of the TOP sailing UA-camrs!
Who would have thought watching someone clean could be so satisfying. She's looking great.
When you pulled out the lantern, at first I thought the glass was part of a bong lol.
I'm invested now, can't wait to see where this one goes
Your doing a great job Mark, it’s looking good.
"Ladies"!!!,,,,,,,That is actually the funniest thing I've heard in ages🤣🤣🤣🤣 It must be freezing & yet all I feel his your happiness, drive & belief! You are truly an inspiration Mark & at the risk of sounding like a broken record,,I'm so freakin (love that word!!!) proud,,,Love as always🌈🌻Momma🌻🌈
PS,,,as long as the mattress is dry & hasnt got any black mold, it will be fine! I'll treat you to a couple of padded mattress toppers & you'll sleep like a King in your castle ⛵️
You have the boat that dreams are made of there Brother. She will take You to the Stars and back. Enjoy Each Beautiful Moment. You are getting to Know Her Intimately right now and that will Serve You well going forward.
Mark you are doing really well.....Kudos for seeing past the dirt and grime......this is going to be a beautiful boat, can't wait till you get to the boat yard...cheers
Mark, really great improvement, just goes to show what hard work can achieve - keep it up matey
I was thinking about your other half and then heard the background music. Hope you two are doing well, and you keep on sailing. Keep busy, soon you'll have a team of master boat builders, sponsors, going around the globe in competition. And much much more.
Nice work! Good old fashioned elbow grease and cleaning. It's very satisfying to watch. Each step forward is so rewarding. Thanks for the video!
I believe neoprene closed cell foam is available in a variety of densities and thicknesses. Easier to keep clean and excellent floatation. Have a look into it for matresses and cushions. 😉
Such great work my friend. Keep after it. Your hard work is paying off already. You are dedicated. That always helps in hard times. I believe your days are turning brighter. Glory.
Mark, after you fitted your sheet and invitingly said “ladies” then followed by a fragrant spritz and another invite I was surprised that there wasn’t an immediate knock on the hull of your boat.
Great work and good job!
I would check under the paint where you found that conk as we find them here on trees that are decaying you may have a soft spot
Well done Mark , it's looking great.
Sweet shoutout to Alex Goes Sailing. Love watching that guy cruise around! Wharram is coming along very nicely
the nice fungus you found is Artist’s Conk (Ganoderma applanatum) You can find it growing on many species of trees, from conifers to broad-leaf trees. It’s a thick shelf fungus, with brown on the top and white on the bottom
Nice to see a hard working individual achieving goals! Thanks for the content.
YEAH!
Being able to watch what is emerging is a treat. Finding the good hull underneath, it's mostly good very little actual degradation to the wood itself excepting for that one break in the surfacing substrate at one of the tillers, your freind found, if that is all there is then you got an absolute bargain. It is shaping up.Bravo on the cleaning.
I appreciate your spirit and determination with all of this. Thanks!
Never thought I’d enjoy someone cleaning so much, great work lad, you certainly don’t mind getting ya hands dirty, great stuff.
Nice progress! It looks hard work doing all that scrubbing, but it's so satisfying to see it clean! One step closer!
Welldone, one step closer to the yard and before you know it, all that hard work will payoff. Stay focused and go for it 👏
I admire your ability to see beyond the grime and rust, and to work methodically towards your dreams.
A hundred thousand details, and you've tackled each in turn.
Well done thus far.
.
The life of a sailor is indeed a tough one , but you are very resilient and spiritually ready for this new journey.Blessings and much peace. There will always be naysayers but keep your focus and you shall sail soon .Shalom .
Looking really good Mark - she's coming up nicely except for that foam mattress of course! Will be really good when you can get her hauled and access to power and water, tools, etc. and also check out the bottom.
Well done mate! You’re doing a Sterling job in what looks a difficult location! Get her in the boatyard asap and you’ll be cooking on gas! Keep that smile on your face buddy, you’re doing great! 🍺🇬🇧
Great videos Mark - really appreciate all the work you put in for the different angles and the humorous touches re the sound editing etc - Boat is looking great..cheers
Mark I admire your perseverance. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to next weeks video.
Lots of respect for the cleaning job👍✌️💪
All you have to do is give that little dinghy some love and she'll be the perfect little dinghy to get you to and off your boat. Nothing wrong with that, at all. Btw Mark looks like you've got yourself a great boat, looking forward to this refit should be very interesting. I'm kinda excited for ya to be honest.
I love seeing what you are doing! Happy for you and enjoying it. Thank you!
You are doing a fantastic job Mark! Really bringing this to life. Keep on keeping on. One step at a time.
Great job , looking great! You could use the old foam mattress for outside cushions if recovered👍
That thing isn't for any live creature's use anymore. Black mold (every aspergillus whatsoever) is highly toxic and leads to longterm health issues of all kinds in every mammal.
Bravo, bon nettoyage, bonne restauration, vous allez avoir un super catamaran, bon courage pour la suite 😀
When you bought the boat I really thought you were mad but you have so far made it look better than I could imagine it just might be worth while good job so far
A YT channel where they do proper repairs with sellotape. Finally!
Mark, I can see potential being even better than Minky.. Done & Doing very well😊😊😊
Awesome Mark, this is what is right for you. Looking forward to see the end product of your boat👍 and the journey to their.
I am starting to take a liking to your new boat! All your hard work is paying off. I am very excited to follow you journey! Wishing you the best!

We should never have doubted Mark. This channel is going to be just fine!
Awesome watching your videos Mark!! I realise that it takes a lot of effort to video yourself doing the work (and capturing the minute details)! And then all the detailed editing!! All on top of the mammoth task of fixing up the boat!!! Please don't stop going the extra mile!! It is facinating watching the process. In the words of the great Garreth of "Salt & Tar: "One day you'll be floating in the tropics and drinking margaritas.....!" 😊
You’re a very brave man Mark. You have what it takes with this project. Hands on, competent, practical, resourceful etc etc. You’re video coverage of the individual tasks you complete are not just educational but enjoyable. I for one will be signing up in support, for as long as it takes, and of course very much look forward to the day this Yacht is at least 2 sheets to the wind with you at the helm. ⛵️🚣♀️🤩🏆👍🍻
I see that you put effort and that is CORRECT.
CONGRATULATIONS... 💪
05:55 it looks like Fomes fomentarius. I'd definitely check the wood around its habitat!
Chaga!!! lol
Yes, that could very well be.👌
More importantly, this is only the fruiting body, the wood below, or actually above, will be completely riddled with mycelium, and therefore rotten😱!
