Spanish Wells was built around the supermarket (no joke). It is the best in all the Bahamas. At 7 PM down one of the residential streets (ask as everyone knowns the location) you can drive your golf cart (easy to rent there) for some ice cream! I know you are beyond this point now.....I'm catching up!
It feels like 80% is imported from the US and 20% from the UK (Bahamas is a UK territory). The UK items seem to be cheaper which is weird because it’s a longer shipping route. Very little local stuff.
Those prices aren't too bad and I'm in Oz and we grow all our own food and it's local too, so even with the shippings costs you're doing well! Poor Ella - we don't want those on our bot "Oooohhhhh"
lol Ella knew we wouldn’t buy those bottles. They generate too much trash that we have to carry until there’s a place we can get rid of it. She just got mixed messages when we we’re looking at the prices. BTW we think the price was per bottle not 1.89 for the 8 pack.
What Highfield dingy model do you have? And what size motor your have in this video. We are looking for a new one and we have been looking for the highland and possibly a tohatsu motor. I'll look back at your video's to see if you talk about it in any. Thanks
The Bahamas do their best to peg their dollar to the US dollar. Not always perfect as it is not a hard peg, but since most of their tourists are from US, it makes sense to have a 1 to 1 exchange. Nassau has the most reasonable grocery stores (away from tourist areas). And yes groceries become more expensive and less variety as you go south, mostly due to transportation on ferry/delivery boats. In some locations it is necessary to know the boat delivery schedule and get to store(s) on delivery day morning in order to get staples before they are sold out. Spanish Wells did not get hit too bad in last hurricane but seems they have recovered. How are all the systems on your cat working? as being off grid (not plugging in at a marina) is a real test.
Hi Douglas, yes, we have seen some areas where supply has run out. In particular we have found diesel and gasoline were sold out in some locations further south. All of our systems have been working great! The only issue that we have had is related to our generator and gunk in the tank as well as some unknown source of water ingress into the tank. I suspect it’s the deck fitting. We run our diesel generator out of a Jerry can at this point until we get back to the states where we can work on it. Once we decided to embrace using the jerrycan, we haven’t had any issues. we have found our solar and battery bank to be almost perfect size for our level of consumption. we run our generator every 2 to 3 days to make water and otherwise the solar heat is up with everything we need. Our DIY lithium batteries have been great! Our overall renovation is far from complete but I’m able to work on things a little at a time. As far as all the systems they we have installed, we have beyond pleased. We should make a dedicated video about this topic. Cheers, Corey
Yeah we’re aware that they cut them when they bag them, but we usually buy whole carrots 🥕 in a bunch. I think these ones in Spanish wells are a different variety. 🤷♂️
That Sugar is $4.79 in Ohio. The Dunkin coffee is $7.99 Not $17.38. Broccoli $2.49 a pound Not $4.95. Tomatoes are $3.49 a pound here so the Bahamas is cheaper on them. Zucks are $1.49 a lb in ohio. Russets are $3.99 for 5 pounds. The steaks are the same price as Ohio. Ground beef is $4.33 a pound so it is also cheaper in the Bahamas. 5 pounds of rice is $3.69 in Ohio not $6.71. Olive oil is $14.99 here. Crisco oil is $6.99 here in Ohio so the bahamas is cheaper on that. Oreos are just $3.99 in Ohio. Currently the exchange rate is 1-1.002. So the Bahamian doller is .oo2 higher. Hardly wort considering. Sorry for the details But I am planning to spend next winter in the bahamas and food costs is a budget I am working on. So thanks for posting this. Very interesting that some items are cheaper there.
Great to see you guys out there, Corey. That water at the end of the video looks like a swimming pool. Love it!
Thank you! Yes, the water has been amazing 🤩

Great video, guys! Expensive here for sure. Really makes you appreciate prices of goods back home.
Makes you appreciate the sneaky Tambi and Molly sighting!!!
I wondered if anyone would notice them… 😆
@@SaltyEscape Only the lucky ones!!
Great video guys! Becky you look great! And Corey, it did totally look like the ghostbusters. 😂
Thanks Jackie! I hadn’t seen the GhostBusters emblem in a very long time. Lol
I find it interesting to look at the grocery prices in different areas
Me too! The cost of food in the Bahamas has been unpredictably different from island to island.
@@SaltyEscape i figured it would be lower for most things but understand the higher cost of American imported foods

Nice little town, 'cept maybe the prices. They give you Bahamas change to help out their buddies down the street.
Thanks Frank, the prices became dramatically worse the further south we go.

Publix is crazy expensive as a comparison metric. Compare to Costco or Walmart. We saw a case of water bottles in Black Point for $38.
100% agree. Publix he is the last place we wanted to provision, but we had lack of options in the north end of Lake worth.
Kroger delivery is available in north lake worth now. No stores, delivered in refrigerated truck.
8 months ago? The cost of food in North Dakota is higher than that. I might move to the Bahamas just to save on food.
Carrots in the US aware far from small. They cut them up to make them appear small.

Bahamas and US money is equal here in the Bahamas. Food is expensive with all the frees to have it shipped here
😊 Yes, we know. The title is a bit over dramatic. And this was a year ago.

Loved this! 😊
I'll be politically incorrect, but Becky really does look great in the bikini!
Haha. Political incorrectness is sometimes refreshing. Thanks. 😊
