You did *not* just upload a Civ II game in 2020. You madman! Eagerly watching this, Civ II was my intro into the series and even though I had no idea what I was doing, I still regard it fondly. Most of the songs and game sounds are ingrained in my deepest memory
Masterful job with your Civ 2 Deity Win Series, thoroughly enjoyed it all! Particularly thought your narration was very informative & very entertaining too. Remember playing Civ1 & Civ2 when they first came out but was never able to master them until after watching your wonderful walk through series. By the way, if you by remote chance still have the starting .SAV File from the beginning 4000 BC, I'd really enjoy playing the same game you walked through. Imagine there may be others that would enjoy it as well. Keep up the great content & thanks a million for the awesome series. T
Hey man, glad the recommended algorithm showed me your channel. These are my favorite type of strategy videos because you explain many mechanics and provide your thought process throughout. Cheers!
It's a real pleasure watch your videos. I watched many of walkthrough videos, and most players have nasty voices, also they tell about useless things, how they feel themselves or otherselves, uses many parasite words etc. You have calm, pleasant voice and tell about what are you doing and why. You cool! (Now I watch 2nd part. Next Civ has shortcoming - oceans, which are absolutely lifeless. It's especially clear seen in "Three sisters" scenerio.)
some stuff i would like in civ2 that border line from civ 3 an AI that makes the engineers to walk long distances without bothering you recent small cities stopping to trying to build wonders
I never got beyond King level back in the day, but after watching this I won a Deity game for the first time recently, so thanks! I played it a bit different, going beyond Monotheism, keeping science at max and changing to Communism with SoL. I built Leo's Workshop and finished the game with far too many cavalry😄
Thanks for the upload. You said that you had already halfway researched Bronze Working, so you didn't wanna trade for it. That's not the best argument though, as the research points carry over to the next. Hence you would have been halfway to the next tech, if you traded for it. The pathing system is bugged, but only over long distances involving roads/railroads in my experience. As long as you divide a long auto move path into slices of roughly 10-15 squares you'll have no problem. Sometimes you can move way longer without an issue, just test and see what works, it's highly map dependent.
Great gameplay. Clear instructions. Sincere thanks. I have learned a lot from this playlist. Would you consider doing one for Super Science City in MGE? Online available instruction is for Classic edition and that works only in principle in MGE. Hence application in MGE is very challenging.
Hey Square, great series. I just finished it a little while ago while playing my own game of Civ. I'm fascinated by your perseverance in the face of so much RNG nonsense. Losing so many units to settlers and weak units sucks but you make playing on this difficulty level look easy much to my chagrin because, when I play, I struggle even on King difficulty. That said, your CPU issues might be because you're on an older version of the Windows 10 MGE patch. Be sure to check out the Civilization II MGE User Interface Additions (CIV2UIA) patch. It fixes high CPU usage and adds a number of updated UI elements and QOL improvements. What music are you using with the game? That was a nice soundtrack, it vaguely sounded like the Civ IV soundtrack but I wasn't sure. Thanks!
@Milo The Orange I'm going by what Square Triangle says in the Info box. Civ II will run natively under Windows 10 as long as its updated and it'll be stable with the MGE patch, but there's *another* more recent MGE patch/launcher that fixes high CPU usage (among other things). That's what I'm recommending.
I have learnt a bit about diplomacy watching your vids, I have always been terrible at the diplomacy in this game lol. Although it always annoys me the way they can be a bit unreasonable in their demands. Atleast now I know some extra stuff like how to exchange maps.
@@thebestspork I think it was the first one if that's the case, it was kinda boring honestly but it was cool, like driving a ford model T but with computer games instead of cars, it has been like 5 years though
Does anyone know how to add the old technology images (when you select a tech in the civilopedia or discover one, the pop up in the original used to have the little pictures for the tech) Any idea how to get these in this version. Seems a bit remiss giving that we get all the videos
Good video Do you know why they changed the castle to the throne room from Civ 1 to Civ 2, removed city view on Civ 2 and made spies so difficult and expensive to use in Civ 3 ?
i thought i was good at civ2, because i could beat deity AI in a long game, but i never knew these stuff about river giving more trades, i always make a bazilion of cities, everywhere there is city in my game lol
Still gambling on chieftain :-D deity is something i've never tried outside of cheatmode, game was always over in less then 500 years hahaha. I have an emulator on my smartphone and start a new round every week, trying out new strategies and approaches. Nice gameplay, got deeper into the game because of it then through 10 years of trial and error, thanks for that.
It's playable in 640x480 with the start bar set to auto hide, but 800x600 or higher is better. The map and sprites are raster graphics and the game has zoom levels so it doesn't matter that much.

Dame guess we are all.madmen "and women"

T
first PC game I ever played. Learned to play by watching dad play as a kid. 24 now and I'm still regularly playing it

Thanks! Glad you liked the style.
Just found this!!! Best Civ game in my opinion. Excited to watch all of these!
i am you, but in the future xD

it is the best CIV. great gameplay and simple enough.
some stuff i would like in civ2
that border line from civ 3
an AI that makes the engineers to walk long distances without bothering you
recent small cities stopping to trying to build wonders
When you're right, you're right :)
There is a fan-made patch that fixes the ai attitude bug of civ II mge.
Technically Sacajawea was kidnapped by a tribe of Sioux and lived there for a while before sold to the whites, so technically she’s a Sioux
Best game civ game ever, I mean 5 competes but still. Nothing beat civ 2 with all the expansion back in the day

Didn’t get to play this till high school and it got me into civ 2013, wish it was still being sold 😢
It's on abbandonware
Wow! What a fantastic video!

I bought an iMac G4 to play this game recently. Thank you.

I played this game on a dos emulator at school, it was pretty slow, but still quite fun.
this game needed Win 3.x to run, are you sure you're not thinking about the first game?
@@thebestspork I think it was the first one if that's the case, it was kinda boring honestly but it was cool, like driving a ford model T but with computer games instead of cars, it has been like 5 years though
I love Civ 2!
When your 13 and your playing a game from 1996
glad you got sound. thumbs up 2 you
Is it possible to win on Emperor or Diety by playing with big cities or can you win the space race on these levels ?
Also Civ 3 corruption and no science from capturing cities is too hard for me
Does anyone know how to add the old technology images (when you select a tech in the civilopedia or discover one, the pop up in the original used to have the little pictures for the tech) Any idea how to get these in this version. Seems a bit remiss giving that we get all the videos
Good video

Can you play WW2 scenario in this game or Rhyes and Fall scenario in civ 4
There are several CIV 4 Rhyes and Fall historical wins in this channel: Germany, Rome, Babylon.... Take a look in the uploaded playlists.
I really like Civ II - later versions are less user friendly (maps are harder to read).
Are there any online multiplayer sites?
i thought i was good at civ2, because i could beat deity AI in a long game, but i never knew these stuff about river giving more trades, i always make a bazilion of cities, everywhere there is city in my game lol
I can’t deal with the blinking active unit aaaa
i dont know where to download it
Check the video's description, I explain it there.

Is there a preferred screen resolution for Civ II?
It's playable in 640x480 with the start bar set to auto hide, but 800x600 or higher is better.

I don´t quite agree, auto move works just fine in CIV2, its CIV 1 it woorks really poorly.
(well, if there are a lot of enemies around it get worse)
I watching on 2025
