What about sadness in relation to OCD? - if you don’t resistist sadness, then you might end up becomming depressed, because you allow it to be with you. How is allowing feelings of sadness and not do anything to regulate it a good thing? Shouldn’t you try to regulate emotions in a healthy way (not by supression)? And in that cas, I would like to know how to regulate emotions constructively? Sitting with sadness and letting it overwhelm you and do nothing doesn’t make sense to me - then you can stay sad all day. And that goes for other emotions as well: fear, guilt, anger and so on. Thank you for doing such a good job at explaining OCD.
This video provides a great elevator pitch answer to dealing with anxious feelings: just feel them. Feelings are meant to be felt and it's our resistance to them that creates the problem. Thanks, @life-is-here
You are so right! But what to do when you can’t sit in the feeling I.e you are at work etc? … I tend to just aknowledge if and continue with what I’m doing
Sometimes I have difficulty being with and allowing a feeling created by an intrusive thought. As apposed to a feeling based on something rational that really happened. Should I allow the feeling no matter what?
