Regarding dealing with the drama queens. As a nurse we have lots of these situations also. The squeaky wheel thinks that it's going to get all the oil but you need to spread your oil around. In oour environment sometimes the sick as patients are too tired to squeak so we cannot be wasting all of our time with the squeaky Wheels. So I do try to explain this to the patients who are having trouble coping emotionally. I tell them I can give them a pill I can give them a blanket I can give them a drink but I cannot climb inside their brain and do the work of coping. They need to do that themselves and then I explain how my attention needs to be spread around to my patients. It's my way of telling them that you've gotten everything I'm going to give you and I'm not giving you one-on-one attention the whole night because you have poor emotional coping skills.

I wonder what their procedure is when a woman goes into labor while in jail? Just call paramedics? Crazy how when a woman is locked up while pregnant and ready to give birth they transport her to the hospital to give birth but THEY KEEP HER HANDCUFFED to her bed the entire time she's in the hospital even while actively pushing the baby. Blows my mind.

Nobody knows when she's going to deliver, just as nobody knows who will have the next heart attack, or the next diabetic shock, or the next convulsion, or the next WHATEVER medical emergency. Nurses study and are tested in Obstetrics in school. Initially they could get her situated if it came to that. Babies have been delivered in poorer surroundings. What is your reason for saying that?

Lastly, if this person "doubts that nurses could provide any help" they are miraculously out of touch with life. Obviously this clueless person has no idea what a midwife is.
