Kun Khmer developed from the ancient Khmer martial arts, now commonly referred to as "Bokator". Dating back to the 1st century AD, the martial arts in Cambodia are deeply rooted in the country's history, and are depicted in the various bas-reliefs of the Angkor period. During the early 20th century, the local martial traditions were codified by the French administration, giving birth to "Pradal Serey" meaning"Free Boxing", now more widely known as "Kun Khmer".
yep. there are still tai/thai in china. they are called zhuang and they are the biggest minority ethnic group in china. the zhuang culture is the original thai/tai culture and looks nothing like khmer culture. modern thai adopted their culture from the khmers
@@Vazter The Thai real name is Tai-Kradai from Yunnan China. Real story, go google or ChatGPT it. "The Lao people, the predominant ethnic group in present-day Laos, are a branch of the Tai peoples who by the 8th century ce had established a powerful kingdom, Nanzhao, in southwestern China. From Nanzhao the Tai gradually penetrated southward into the Southeast Asian mainland; their migration was accelerated in the 13th century by the Mongol invasions of southern China by Kublai Khan. The Lao, together with other Tai peoples, gradually supplanted various Indigenous groups collectively known as Kha (“Slaves”). Since the 5th century these Kha communities had lived in what is now Laos under the suzerainty of the Khmer empire of Cambodia. During the 12th and 13th centuries, the Tai established the principality of Muong Swa (now Louangphrabang), which was ruled by various Tai leaders and the history of which survives in Laotian legend and myth." www.britannica.com/topic/history-of-Laos
I hope you understand that there is no such thing as "Thai kickboxing." Muay Thai actually originated from the Cambodian people, and it is now recognized as Muay Thai. Cambodia has experienced numerous wars, which resulted in the loss of many skilled fighters. Additionally, Thailand has attempted to appropriate Cambodian temples, as well as the fighting techniques that we now refer to as Muay Thai.
Claiming that La Bokator is the origin of Muay Thai is utterly pathetic. There has never been any academic reference stating that Cambodian martial arts are the origin of Muay Thai, apart from Cambodian media and their own sources. The rest of the world has never even heard of it. When Thailand popularized Muay Thai through the film Ong Bak, Cambodia rushed to claim it as their own. Similarly, when the Thai drama Love Destiny gained fame, Cambodians started claiming that Thai traditional attire was originally theirs. Now, what's next?. It seems like your country has nothing to be proud of except claiming others’ achievements. Truly pitiful. LOL!
Take a step back and see things from a bigger picture, not just from what your government tries to spread propaganda. Yeah, some Thai culture comes from old Khmer times, but that’s normal. This region used to be connected, and we all share the same ancestors. But when it comes to martial arts, once Thailand created its own style with rules and standards, it became its own thing. You can’t just claim it’s yours. If you want your martial art to be known, you’ve gotta work on it yourself, not take credit for someone else’s efforts. I think USG gets this-he’s from a democratic country, so he knows how propaganda works.

Thai people are good at stealing other people’s culture and relics while those people are going through genocide and a dark age but what they’re not good at is fighting Mongolians since the Thai ancestors ran away from their native land in China and had to settle in the Khmer Empire. It’s a known fact the Thais were vassals to the Khmer empire until they backstabbed our ancestors. Truly pitiful LOL

One of the old masters said La Bokator was a soldier’s martial art meant for killing while Kun Khmer is just for sport
