Your attitude towards the train workers was very rude. You’re in the wrong not them. It’s understandable if they don’t want to be filmed while they’re working. Please be a respectful traveler.
Hi James..I was dissatisfied with the body language and basic communication of some staffs talked with you and would it be better if they add a touch of politeness and softly when communicating with foreign passengers, So if looking at service the first class and second class service on the train, if it is as impressive as I can imagine right now and I'm very satisfied every time that I have the opportunity to visit. that is the railway system of Indonesia 🇮🇩 and finally take care your health too 🇹🇭
Hey Edward. Thanks so much for that - really interesting perspective you share there. I notice from your handle that you may be in Dubai? I imagine that you’re something of a travel buff, particularly when it comes to modern rail travel, and airports? I agree that it was a slightly harsh environment in terms of the service elements. It was clean and efficient, but the lighting was stark (and was never dimmed), and the crew offering refreshments were an odd bunch - to put it nicely. Still, they executed things efficiently, but I found their behaviour a little jarring - as I certainly felt with the zero tolerance approach of the train guards towards my fellow passenger who opened a can of beer with his meal, whilst travelling with his daughter. Alas, it was a great experience but it did lack empathy - despite it being completely normal for one of the staff to be wearing makeup and pigtails, and mincing around the cabin seeking attention. It seems rather like double standards. But what I have learned about in Thailand, despite the reputation for being kind and gentle (overwhelmingly valid), is a more authoritarian side… get on the wrong side of a Thai, they say, and you’ll know. I’m off to Indonesia next week and have LOTS of train rides planned! If you have any suggestions then please let me know 🤝
Looking good James..I really enjoyed this video...I know there were downsides to your journey but I was impressed by cleanliness and decor..AND no antisocial shenanigans 😂
Hey Deirdre, always good to hear from you! Indeed, it was only a mild fracas in the buffet car, and other than that, it was all very civilised. I wouldn’t hesitate to use a sleeper there again… which you guessed it, I certainly can’t say of the transportation (or anything really, for that matter!) in India!!
I wonder about the problems with video.... I often travel by train (also night train) in Thailand (all night connections I think), but I never encountered that. May they just had a bad day in office?

Thank you Suwanee. I did find it a little surprising given how friendly the Thai people otherwise were during my time in your country. I guess it was just them and no reflection on Thailand as a whole 🙏
The law about the alcohol on the trains stems from a murder of a child by a drunk train employee in 2014
